why do you feel the right to mock people's efforts to try to learn and/or engage about the current climate?
This is the thing... you've seen efforts to learn or engage since November 2016? And I'm not talking about people here at all, I'm talking about in general? Do we see efforts to learn and engage from either major party? Any major news network? Social media? How would you generalize the level of conversation and discourse, by both sides? Thats my whole point, there is no conversation, its all yelling. Its all tribal. Its all toxic. Both sides, whether we like it or not. Now Democrats/progressives openly stereotype and demonize "the other side" without batting an eye. Just read any thread here, its pure toxuc sludge pouring out. Morons. Piece of shit. Scum. Idiots. Racists. Deplorables. Evil. Nazis. And we're supposed to be the good guys??? This also includes me, i readily admit it, i did and still do the same thing. But i feel like i realized the error of our ways recently and how we had become what we hate. We had become judgemental, harsh, dismissive, rude, mean, combative, and far too angry to engage rationally.
I have a lot of respect for the posters here, on all sides, and there are some VERY bright people. This is why i still post here, been around a while, and plan on being here a while.
As a fairly staunch progressive i think I've decided the healthiest thing to do is to challenge other progressives, engage with independents/moderates, and listen to conservatives to find common ground.
But are you assuming that "conservatives" are discussing with respect and facts? That you can have a rational discussion with someone who dismisses facts and parrots lies? That started in the Bush Administration with their "we create our own reality." Its a 1,000 times worse under Team Trump Treason. Maybe the 10th Amendment will be our saving grace? I'm not sure though.
The whole "they go low, we go high" argument has already been discussed to death here. I think the general consensus has normally been that it's a really nice thought to go high, and that there have been efforts to stay up there, but often the low is so low, and the high is so ineffective, there needs to be another game plan. I don't think anyone thought it would be pretty.
And frankly, when someone actually is acting like a piece of shit and doing openly scummy things or being clearly racist, there is no problem with calling it what it is. And that "tolerate the intolerable" nonsense doesn't work for me at all.

Trump's tough response to the caravan has been an issue in the congressional elections. Democrats accuse the president of stoking fears of illegal immigration to help Republicans win votes.
The Pentagon has said it has identified about 7,000 active-duty troops, including about 2,000 on standby, that could be deployed to the southern border.
The Defense Department has not said what the scope of the mission will be or its assessment of any threat posed by the migrants.

You really shouldn't call them suckers. I know that technically they are suckers. They were duped and someone that's been duped is by definition a sucker. But I also think a lot of those people had real struggles for years and the prospect of voting for someone so different than every candidate that came before him was enticing. I dunno, some of them have my sympathy. My life wouldn't change one iota whether Trump or Clinton was president. But for some people (farmers, steel workers, etc.), their livelihood may depend on who the president is and what that president is trying to accomplish. So the fact that they were tricked by a professional trickster is kinda sad.
