    let that sink in.

    This is crazy.

And should quell the short sighted comment: guys guys... come on guys... enough of the Nazi comparisons already... okay?

    What's the objective here?
people realize that only about 30 countries have birthright citizenship, right? Not sure we should fire up the Nazi rhetoric just yet. Not saying I'm for or against it, but a massive majority of nations do not have this law. I think it is cause for an interesting conversation, for sure, but there will be too much screaming back and forth to have an actual conversation about it.

The idea of changing the constitution via executive order, now we are talking... i cant imagine conservative constitutionalists (is that a word? lol) being ok with this approach?

We’re not discussing 30 other countries. We’re discussing Team Trump Treason overruling the constitution by EO. I could give two shits what 30 other countries do, or the remainder that don’t, as it relates to birth right citizenship. What was that term that the repubs like to throw around? What was it again? Hmmmmmm, oh yea, “whataboutism!” Hahaheehee

    He's an idiot:

No president, including Trump, can alter, rewrite or amend the Constitution of the United States. As president, he manages the operations of the executive branch of government through executive orders.

According to the National Constitution Center, an executive order is a directive from the President that has much of the same power as a federal law.

Article II of the U.S. Constitution vests executive powers in the president, making him the commander in chief, and requires that the president “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.”

Yet even executive orders have constitutional limits. Presidents, and the executive branch, must comply with the Constitution, and can’t simply can't change it by themselves.

I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

The 14th amendment is even clearer than the 2nd. I mean, it doesn’t say you have to be a well-regulated baby.

And lastly... im not worried about Trump changing the constitution, at all. Just like when W was going to propose an amendment to ban gay marriage... right in election season if i remember.

Your second paragraph, which I read, isn't relevant. Team Trump Treason is advocating for "changing the constitution" via executive order, he's willing to issue an EO and wait for it to be challenged in the courts as unconstitutional and hope that it eventually makes its way before the SC. You know the SC, the stacked one? This is not "changing the constitution," which requires an Amendment, but changing the way its interpreted, particularly the power of the executive. We saw it with the muslim ban, which eventually, parts of the EO were upheld by the SC. So, you can say its too early to fire up the nazi rhetoric but I think its too late. This is not a single event but part and parcel of Team Trump Treason's overall approach (Demonization of the press, which continues; muslim ban; demonization of immigrants and others; arguing for denying transgender rights; "fine people on both sides"; claiming he's a nationalist; belittling/mocking of dems or anyone who opposes his policies) And should the SC uphold this EO or parts of it, where does it end? How does it play out? And who does it impact? What other rights might we see eroded? See Sessions, Jeff; Justice, Department of; Transgender and Employment. Remember all of the criticism Obama took for issuing EOs? Oh, the outrage.

    And who's yelling and screaming?

Don’t fall for Trump’s desperate, race-baiting birthright citizenship stunt.

    Trump is a racial nationalist

The important point here is that Trump, by moving to reverse what was originally intended as a bedrock guarantee of citizenship to those born here regardless of their race or the heritage of their parents, is again confirming fealty to a racialized vision of American citizenship, as Adam Serwer argues. When Trump recently said, “I’m a nationalist,” he prefaced this by suggesting this was a taboo thing to say, which is a way of dog-whistling, “I’m a racial nationalist, and I’m not afraid to say so,” while actually speaking aloud only the uncontroversial half of that notion.

By reviving ending birthright citizenship, Trump has again confirmed — as he did with his “s—hole countries” remark — that his animating impulse is to stall or roll back the country’s evolving racial and ethnic mix. As Garrett Epps has noted, stripping away citizenship is also the stuff of autocrats and tyrants. But it’s worth recalling that this position is hardly confined to Trump. When he floated it during the campaign, multiple other GOP contenders joined him.

Opinion | Trump owns the Republican Party, and there's no going back

Donald Trump has irreversibly changed the Republican Party. The upheaval might seem unusual, but political transformations crop up throughout U.S. history. (Adriana Usero, Danielle Kunitz, Robert Gebelhoff/The Washington Post)

Trump is offering nothing except racial panic

What’s particularly galling is that this comes even as Trump’s race-baiting, xenophobia and incitement of hate are doing serious damage to the country. Trump has fearmongered endlessly about desperate and destitute migrants hundreds of miles away, while claiming “globalists” are orchestrating their exodus, a white nationalist trope that imagines a conspiracy to infest and weaken the “real” American people. Nearly a dozen real Americans were just gunned down in a synagogue, allegedly by a man who spewed hate-filled diatribes about Jews bringing “invaders in that kill our people,” by which he meant refugees.

Trump has responded to this by escalating matters further, dispatching more than 5,000 troops to the border, thus employing our military to do a set piece in his agitprop campaign to create the false impression of a national emergency. Republicans have joined in this effort, too, with many running ads painting immigrants as criminal invaders, and some even connecting the caravan to George Soros. Making all this even worse, as Brian Beutler points out, back when Republicans were trying to stop Trump’s rise, they warned publicly that his dehumanization of immigrants and minorities could have horrific real-world consequences. Now that this has actually happened, Republicans have not backed off in amplifying Trump’s demagoguery.

Now, on top of that, Trump is moving to deny citizenship to the children of undocumented immigrants, an obvious bid to further feed this climate of xenophobia and hate. This is the only play Trump and Republicans have left, now that their ideas on taxes and health care have been soundly rejected by voters. And, of course, the end goal of fomenting all this hysteria is to hold Congress, precisely in order to further their regressive, deeply unpopular agenda on both those fronts — and, naturally, to protect Trump from the accountability a Democratic Congress would bring.

Trump plans to sign executive order ending birthright citizenship

    let that sink in.

    And who's yelling and screaming?
i dont necessarily disagree with you... a few things i would love to expand on but I'm tight on time... but in short, elections have consequences... they got to nominate 2 conservative SCOTUS, and those conservatives leaning judges may see the law and the world differently than a progressive like you or i, isnt democracy beautiful, that doesnt make them evil or wrong necessarily...

With that said, we all might want to say a few extra prayers tonight for The Notorious RBG

Birthright citizenship, however, is very interesting and frankly im a little indifferent about it... im not opposed to it... but i dont think it would be a big deal to not have it... maybe more on that later

A completely partisan SCOTUS judge most certainly is wrong, if not evil (though I think Kavanaugh in particular is probably rather evil too).

And when W appointed conservative Justice Roberts upheld Obamacare was the world coming to an end on a slippery slope to fascism?

Now because a Supreme Court Justice is nominated by a republican we should assume they are nazi's whose decisions will destoy the constitution and democracy in America?

Not everybody is a progressive, that diesnt mean they are wrong or evil or whatever. They have a different view and opinion, thats all.

I don't know why you keep making these comparisons. They make no sense. Apples and oranges. I don't care who you hate more - W and Trump are not comparable, especially not when it comes to fascist tendencies. Again you're ignoring everything that Trump stands for with such a comment. Forget about W. He's gone now. I couldn't care less about him at this point, and he has nothing to do with what's going on now. I don't know why you keep thinking this comparison is relevant... I guess it's because of all the assumptions you make about why people think what they do. And I don't consider this a partisan issue, except for the fact that Kavanaugh is completely lacking in impartiality, which is probably the single most important quality for any SCOTUS judge (the whole SCOTUS is clearly lacking that, which means it is completely broken, and this being sustained and worsened should be a massive concern for anyone). This has NOTHING to do with being left or right wing as far as I'm concerned (by that I don't mean being a Trumpster - being right and being a Trumpster are often two different things IMO).
Um, er, I think Kavanaugh is evil because I believe he sexually assaulted women dude, and because he is a man who thinks it's appropriate to be an overtly partisan SCOTUS judge who lies during Senate hearings. Did you forget about that already?

My point had nothing to do with W,  or Trump... my point was Roberts shocked the right & left when he decided the Obamacare case... you know what happens when you assume? the right said we were sliding to socialism, fascism, whateverism when all that went down... my point is simple, win elections and you nominate judges... they are intelligent and well educated judges, not evil monsters... now I'm supposed to start demonizing them just because i see the world differently and may disagree on issues?

The demonization of "the other side" by BOTH sides is flat out fucking ridiculous at this point. Nazis, facism, totalitarianism, blah, blah, blah... just stop, it's ridiculous, and we sound like the GOP and tea party in the Obama years screaming about nonsense and death panels
