I just waded into Twitter, which is rare for me (it was terrible) .... Trump supporters and anti-Dems seem completely and utterly convinced that the transcript of the call fully exonerates Trump, lol.

Sorry is this is redundant but in case not, seems well worth posting.
On Facebook, AOC said of Trump:
"He can stay, he can go. He can be impeached or voted out in 2020. But removing Trump will not remove the infrastructure of an entire party that embraced him; the dark money that funded him; the online radicalization that drummed his army; nor the racism he amplified and reanimated."
Robert Reich said of this:
"AOC
is absolutely right. Trump isn’t the cause of America’s problems — he's
the product of years of stagnant wages and big money’s corruption of
our democracy, combined with a long legacy of deep-seated racism and
bigotry.
If we really want to stop Trump, we need to address the factors that enabled his rise."
Excellent points!

I don't agree that Trump is in office due to stagnant wages. I find that a bit silly honestly. Trump leveraged celebrity culture with the textbook traits of a demagogue. There have been plenty of those in history regardless of economic system in place. He took advantage of the current strain of populism and nativism which has popped at points of heavy immigration and cultural change. It happened in the mid 19th century, early 20th and now. I agree with point 2 mildly, but only on the edges. Obviously agree with 3. That's the big one.
The party consolidating behind him was years of purity politics combined with the natural desire to keep your job.
So this happened. I think the calculus may be different this afternoon.
RNC Chairwoman McDaniel: Calls for impeaching Trump are baseless
After all of the Democrats’ hype and political grandstanding surrounding the whistleblower complaint about President Trump’s phone call with the president of Ukraine, we are once again left with what we already knew: their calls for impeachment are baseless.
The president beat them at their own game by choosing to be completely transparent with the American people. In releasing the transcript of his phone call with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump showed that he had nothing to hide.

I'm not getting my hopes up re: the whistleblower statement, but based on Ben Sasse's quotes so far.....kinda can't contain my giddiness.

I hold out no hope that he's removed from office, but I'd like to be surprised.
Somewhere someone mentioned that Trump doesn't see what he did wrong and that is a problem. Yes it is. Certain things he does he ALWAYS thinks are ok.
When you have a person that has done what he wants all his life it's hard for him to see what is right or wrong.
Hopefully he goes down now.
I'm all for the impeachment.
