Can't wait. Hopefully, this exposes Trump as the idiot, blowhard he is. Just can't see him making his case in a debate format.

Unfortunately, his followers will probably look the other way.

maybe I'm wrong on both counts....

Usually what has the greater effect is how the press presents the debate after it's over. Since they seem to finally coming around to identifying Trump's lies more directly and frequently, this will probably be a 2 - 3 point bump for Hillary.

ummmmm trump does this every single day. He come off as an idiot / blowhard daily. During every debate he's been a part of he's come off as a complete fool. Not sure what else you want. Our best hope is that he drops out and hillary clinton ends up in jail or forced to drop out as well.

The only losers are the American people.

Prediction: no matter what happens, MSM will proclaim Hilliary the winner immediately after. A meteor or the China space lab could crash hostra before opening remarks and Hilliary will win by an overwhelming majority.

Have you seen Trump try to debate? He communicates like a spoiled middle schooler.

    PARALLEL NEWS CONFERENCE!

RALPH NADER: Well, corporations are deciding who debates, when they debate, who asks the questions. So, in the primaries, you had major corporations decide who gets on, who doesn’t. They excluded, for example, the former head of the IRS, Mr. Everson, former deputy of immigration service, the only man who had any experience in the federal government, because he didn’t have a super PAC sponsoring him. And you can see what they did with Dennis Kucinich in 2012.

Now we have the Super Bowl of debates, and we have another corporation, which is funded by other corporations, like Anheuser-Busch, Ford Motor Company, AT&T. They have these hospitality suites at the debate location. And this is controlled by the two-party tyranny that doesn’t want any competition, doesn’t want voices that represent majoritarian directions in this country, like living wage, full Medicare for all, crackdown on corporate crime, pulling back on empire, civil liberties advance instead of the PATRIOT Act. All of these are represented by our third parties, which cannot reach tens of millions of people. You see, it’s basically a terminal exclusion, because you can go and speak to the biggest crowds of all—I filled Madison Square Garden, the Boston Garden, the Target Center; I reached less than 2 percent of the people I could have reached had I been on one debate. And the polls, again and again, showed that a majority of the people want more people on that stage. They don’t just want the Republican and Democratic Party going through basically parallel news conferences. They’re not really debates.

    Selling drama!

Remember that it was CBS CEO Leslie Moonves who whooped about the cash to be made from the campaign, telling an investors conference in February, “The money’s rolling in and this is fun. I’ve never seen anything like this, and this going to be a very good year for us… Bring it on, Donald. Keep going. Donald’s place in this election is a good thing.” Oh, yes, good for Moonves’ annual bonus, but good for democracy? Don’t make us laugh. Elaine Quijano of CBS News will be moderating the vice presidential candidates’ debate on Oct. 4, with Moonves looking over her shoulder.

Remember, too, that both Lauer and Trump are NBCUniversal celebrities who have earned millions from and for the networks. (Vanity Fair magazine even reported that NBCUniversal boss Steve Burke had spoken hypothetically with Trump about continuing The Apprentice from the White House.) Moderating the first presidential debate on Sept. 26 is NBC anchorman Lester Holt, a nice and competent fellow, but facing the same pressure as his fellow teammate Matt Lauer to not offend their once-and-possibly-future NBC star Donald Trump.

And remember that Anderson Cooper of Time-Warner’s CNN, the all-Trump-all-the-time network, and Martha Raddatz of Disney’s ABC News will anchor the second presidential debate (to her credit, Raddatz did a good job during the 2012 vice presidential debate) — and that the final, crucial close encounter between Trump and Clinton will be moderated by Chris Wallace of Fox, the very “news organization” that joined with Donald Trump to gleefully spread the Big Lie of Birtherism that served Trump so well with free publicity (and Fox so well with ratings) and that Trump now conveniently and hypocritically repents.

No, our election process - as fucked up as it can be - is to (or purport to?) bring a voice to the people. Whether or not one is religious, it has nothing to with God.

Anyway, @Wob, I have a feeling I'll watch a portion of the debates and somehow turn it into a drinking and/or smoking game.

In 1988, the League pulled out of the Bush-Dukakis debates, declaring in a press release, “It has become clear to us that the candidates’ organizations aim to add debates to their list of campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity and answers to tough questions. The League has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public.”

Walter Cronkite agreed. That same year, he wrote, “The debates are part of the unconscionable fraud that our political campaigns have become. Here is a means to present to the American people a rational exposition of the major issues that face the nation, and the alternate approaches to their solution. Yet the candidates participate only with the guarantee of a format that defies meaningful discourse. They should be charged with sabotaging the electoral process.”

But as Ridings said, it’s not just the candidates involved in this criminal hijacking of discourse. The giant media conglomerates — NBCUniversal (Comcast), Disney, CBS Corp., 21st Century Fox, Time Warner — have turned the campaign and the upcoming debates into profit centers that reap a huge return from political trivia and titillation. A game show, if you will — a farcical theater of make-believe rigged by the two parties and the networks to maintain their cartel of money and power.

This debate is a bigger risk to Hillary. Trump could take a poop on the podium and his polling numbers might drop a few points at most. His stratagy has worked. He can no longer shock us. He has attained Mike Tyson zone where any story you could dream up may possibly be true.

If Hillary has to take a pee break or goes into a coughing fit or goes insane for having to deal with Trump, her numbers will drop more.

agree. sad but Hillary must appear fully healthy or it will be very bad for her. she needs to be strong, decisive and not get frustrated by his baiting. he will say nothing of consequence.

She also has the added difficulty of navigating the inherent sexism in America.
If she is equally aggressive as Trump it will be viewed by many in a negative way, she can't be as forceful without being seen as a "shrew" and whatnot. Her voice doesn't do her any favors there.
This is well documented and recognized among folks who do PR, marketing, focus groups and all that.

"I consult myself, I have a very good brain"....now that's some funny shit there. It truly is amazing to me that people hate Hillary so much that they are willing to vote for Trump and his arrogance yet honest campaign. Perhaps some of you guys will give him a chance to follow through of his promise to make America Great Again if he Wins like I did when Barry Won 8 years ago leaving my personal experiences with him in Chicago when he was a Community Activist. That lasted about 3 months, but I was willing to give him a chance.

Trump will do his usual ad libs and be funny in doing so, while his fans will love and eat it up. I won't watch the tomfoolery.

    Peace

My thoughts exactly. This will be worse than any stupid reality TV I can imagine.

If her interview (?) with Zach Galifianakis is any indication, she is capable of acting like she is not annoyed by someone for about 2 minutes max. How will she survive 90 minutes with Trump?

Is Vegas taking bets on how long before she cracks and chucks a microphone at Trump's head?

She also has the added difficulty of navigating the inherent sexism in America.
If she is equally aggressive as Trump it will be viewed by many in a negative way, she can't be as forceful without being seen as a "shrew" and whatnot. Her voice doesn't do her any favors there.
This is well documented and recognized among folks who do PR, marketing, focus groups and all that.
Good post. It is frustrating, because I sometimes fall into this, and have to catch myself. When Hillary starts raising her voice it does come across like nails on a chalkboard to me, but I recognize that she needs to be assertive and at times aggressive, especially in her own defense. Trump will be stirring shit up and in general being a dick, but he'll get a pass. Hillary will have to defend herself, probably roll her eyes or make faces a few times trying to shrug it off, or raise her voice to get a point across, and she'll be the one to be made to look bad. She will easily out-debate Trump, but she won't necessarily "win" the debate. That's the dilemma for her. The debate has the potential to do more harm than good for her campaign.
