Strange Facts

Hippos, crocs and cobras are dangerous on land, jellyfish and sharks are killers in the sea, and people kill off other people every year by the thousands. But they all pale in comparison to the measly mosquito. Estimates of death caused by mosquito-borne illnesses -- malaria, most notably -- range from 1 million to more than 5 million every year. The blood-sucking species that carries malaria infects more than 70 million people annually.

Fact #1 This is a cool thread and has the potential to be a friendly one here on AMT. Strange indeed!

Fact#2 My preview and quote buttons do not work here and I find that vexing. Strange that this only seems to be happening to me!

Fact #3 Russia has a larger surface area than Pluto. (I can't prove that. Sounds a bit strange to me!)

The brain is much more active at night than during the day. Logically, you would think that all the moving around, complicated calculations and tasks and general interaction we do on a daily basis during our working hours would take a lot more brain power than, say, lying in bed. Turns out, the opposite is true. When you turn off your brain turns on. Scientists don’t yet know why this is but you can thank the hard work of your brain while you sleep for all those pleasant dreams.

You are still allowed, in Berkeley County south Carolina, to legally beat your wife on the courthouse steps on Sundays only.

Seriously, there are some dumb laws that are still on record.

Most people, when asked what they think is the largest state east of the Mississippi River, will say New York. New York is actually only the 8th largest state east of the Mighty Mississip. Georgia is the largest in land area, followed by Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, then New York.

On May 29, 1976, Houston Astros pitcher Joe Neikro hit the only home run of his career. He hit it off his brother, Phil Neikro of the Atlanta Braves.

That made me dizzy looking at the page. Cool though.

    Yes, I'm laughing at that.

Also strange is that a parrot's "talking" may be used as testimony in a trial.

    Most lipsticks contains fish scales.

It takes a million years for glass to decompose, which means it never wears out and can be recycled an infinite amount of times.

The Nobel Peace Prize medal depicts three naked men with their hands on each other's shoulders!

Lastly, the MOST popular name in the world is MUHAMMAD.

    No wonder lipstick shines.
Recycle glass, hell recycle all that we can.

Bill Clinton had nothing on LBJ LOL !

Lyndon Baines Johnson “LBJ”(1908-1973) affectionately called the many women he slept with his “harem.” He even had a buzzer system installed that rang inside the Oval Office so that Secret Service could warn him when his wife was coming.c

Hillary Clinton was the only First Lady to be subpoenaed, for her involvement with the Whitewater controversy in 1996, and to repeatedly be deposed as part of ongoing criminal and civil investigations, including Travelgate and Filegate. Bill and Hillary were the only First Couple to be fingerprinted by the FBI.
