DMB. Multiple nights, same venue definitely worth it. Different every time. And awesome every time.

The setlists so far are ehhh. Should be illegal to play multiple nights at the same venue and not change sets. 15-20 song rotation could have five different songs the next night and change the order. The lights can change. Sure the setup is loaded for all songs in rotation. I don’t know. PJ just spoils us when they tour. You never know what’s coming.
Tool doesn’t use totally preprogrammed lighting and video.
That makes it even worse then. I would understand if the show was preprogrammed. Switch up the sets for gods sake.

I recall Rush used to warm up individually for 4 weeks then they together would rehearse for nearly another month before starting a tour.

I think Tool's music is closer to Rush than PJ. There's no way some bands can just whip out an old song on the fly or switch one in without rehearsing it many many times. It's just not realistic. Those Tool polyrhythms are intense. I can hear them struggle to get Pnuema right. But I agree they could have prepared a couple extra songs to swipe out. Hopefully next leg.

My complaint wouldn't be the Tool setlist is the same each night this tour except the 1 song. Its that the current set is too similar to their last tour in 2017.
Ament was interviewed about the setlist(or was it McCready?) changing nightly and they said that sometimes you have to practice a few minutes to remember the song considering that we have a 250 song catalog.

They are professionals, they can change it up if they want to.
I think the stage show restricts them as much as anything, with the accompanying visuals and whatnot.

I agree with lerxst1992 - I wouldn't care about a standard setlist if they changed up a lot of the older material from previous tours and had a new stage show. From everything I've seen, it seems they're just plugging a few new songs into the old road show.

Some bands strive for a note for note recreation because the timing can be so tricky if they were to ad lib their band mates could get lost.

Compared to say Mike ad-libbing on the Even Flow solo would be a "special unique" performance.

Maynard picks the sets based on what he feels he can do best. Adam has said this in numerous VIPs. Sometimes they'll bring in something new but it's never going to be as off the cuff as Pearl Jam. Which we probably take for granted setlist wise.

I reckon Maynard can still do everything, but only for one off performances. He did the original version of 3 Libras at his Cinquanta birthday party and that's the only time he's sung those amazing highs since the Thirteenth Step tour. It's just night after night that would destroy his voice, not to mention the dude is 55 so Mother Nature has taken care of some of that piss and vinegar. He's even compromising on songs they're doing-missing screams in the Grudge, the end of Vicarious and they are playing The Pot in C now to accommodate him. He's always banged on about putting your best foot forward and has lamented in the past that he pushed the envelope too far in the recording process which has made those compromises in the live shows necessary.

Adam, Junior, Breck et al could improvise relatively generic light shows for a song if Maynard threw a curveball (see Eulogy after Chris Cornell passed away). They're that talented. So the sets are all about Maynard.

That's how I feel about Pneuma. 7empest also really growing on me now, it took a while but it's a monster of a track.

I was lucky enough to be in Hershey for the "Eulogy show." Only time it's been publicly performed w Maynard since 2001 IIRC.

Also in Hershey same night Adam's talk box wouldn't play properly so we got a reprise  of his solo on standard guitar on Jambi.

Pneuma was the go to song for me. Always repeating it but now Invincible is the one. Descending is starting to get more love for me.

Invincible all day every day. Well no, I don't do that in order to preserve the magic of the song for me, but every time I hear it I want to listen again and again.

    I think I saw $200 / signed, and $45 unsigned (maybe $50 if using a credit card).

Passing along the credit card fees would be the ultimate Tool move

$60 for unsigned in Houston last night.  They had a merch stand open at 3pm outside and was able to grab a poster there.  Didn't go in the venue early and don't think they had tubes for sell, just sleeves.

Thanks all for the info. Want to be prepared for Chicago on Sunday. Wish I was going to Milwaukee too just for the Halloween part but money told me not to.

Yeah, we're doing both, but I doubt they'll change anything. Some face value tix in the first sections next to the stage available yesterday for Milwaukee.

Put the album back on for the first time since 2 weeks after release.  Listened to it once and back to something else.  The songs are good, it's just not a memorable album.  I don't know.  After 10,000 Days and this one, I think I'm just "over" Tool.

Yeah, I’ve cooled on it. There’s nothing bad on it, Just not enough great moments and listening to artists that still have some vitality and even some that have settled into old man stage but still have some creative drive next to this is striking to me.

I don’t expect every band to reinvent themselves, but evolution is one of the big draws to Tool for me.

Yeah, went to Milwaukee and going to Chicago. Adam as Dwight Shrute, Justin as a freaky alien baby, Danny in a Skeletor mask and MJK in a (barf) Packers shirt.
