I thought about that but I think it's the sound that hasn't changed rather than the songwriting. Same four guys, same Silverburst guitars, same D Minor based stuff, same effects on Justin's Wal bass. I can definitely hear other Tool songs in it, namely Reflection, 10KD, Eulogy, Pushit and Invincible. Just seems a different approach to exploring those soundscapes. Maynard singing clean is a sign of his age- reckon he'd have chucked in a scream near the end had he been younger. Only qualm I have is that Adam's solo I don't think is necessary, but maybe that was a calculated substitute for Maynard going apeshit. I hear a lot of similar complaints about Alice In Chains, Foos and others (AC/DC the main one for obvious reasons haha) but I do hear an evolution in all those bands), and it feels awesome to hear new soundscapes with a sonic foundation you absolutely love and haven't heard from in 13 years.

Everybody ready for a 20 minute epic on this album? Sounds like the most interesting track to me. Semi spoilers in the below article that describe the songs. Don't read if you want to know nothing.
Bonus
tracks (available via the digital release; physical copy includes a
digital download card): • Litanie contre la Peur • Legion Inoculant •
Mockingbeat
I'm really starting to get back into Tool, which is something I did not expect. And I was listening to APC the last few days as well. Bought Eat The Elephant, and that music also surprised me.

Eat the Elephant is an excellent album. Only listened to the new song once. Waiting to see how it goes with the new album.
Interesting thread over on the steve hoffman forums about the Hi-Res 24bit/96khz files. Apparently, the Tool catalog has been remastered. I agree with the consensus over there: Undertow and Lateralus sound a lot better than the old CDs.
I'm listening to a Tool album a week until release. As in, all week. Aenima last week. Lateralus this week. Probably get 10,000 Days over with next week, then finish off with Undertow. And then, it's release day!

Interesting. I've been saving Lateralus for some reason and only listened to Undertow while doing yard work. Will have to give them a spin in the living room.
Very interesting. I wonder if there's a reason besides crass commercialism that they didn't release all of this info up front. Assuming it's true, which I'd guess it is.
Am I correct in thinking there's been no official mention of FI being released on vinyl?
I would hope they release EVERYTHING on Vinyl.
Would love for Salival to get a proper pressing.
10,000 Days doesn't even have one. Blair said he'd seen a test pressing years ago. My guess is they'll let the new album be the sole focus for a few months then reissue things. This is their last album under contract-I reckon and hope that they'll release more stuff independently as well as reissuing/issuing vinyl. Aenima is the one most people want, mind you apparently the Lateralus vinyl is crap and is better used as a decoration so a non picture disc version would be great to have available too.
