this is an outdoor festival so why would the capacity be 9,000? I assume they could go bigger if needed?

I have been to The Blues and Brews Festival in Telluride for 10 years and we actually got married there as well. It is truly magical place, you can't even put it into words to be honest. Town Park (where the concert is being held) does have limited capacity, you can't really expand out at all. Telluride is a very small town. The opportunity to see Pearl Jam in Telluride, in the summer, is something that you would never ever regret. You can fly into Montrose, Grand Junction or DIA. The drive from DIA would be around 7 hours. It's also a gorgeous drive.
    Perfect summary.

Got tickets!!! Whooooo!!!! So excited! Just a heads up, if you haven't already, you should get a place to rent ASAP. Like I said before, Telluride is super small and it will be hard to get a place to stay. I am so excited for everyone that will get to attend this, the experience will definitely be worth the cost.

So If one were to stay hour or so away, is there a parking area with shuttle?

Parking will be VERY limited in town. You can spend $50 to park 7 miles outside of town and take a shuttle in. That would be probably be the safest bet for you. I would pick that up fast as it will likely sell out soon.

Only saw parking for camping sites not solely for parking. Surely others that live in sw Colorado will be driving in daily and going back home every night.

You're right and apparently once you park in the camping sites, you can't come and go as you please. Here is what I found on The Ride's website.

Beginning Friday, July 8 at 4:00pm, cars will not be permitted to drive into or park in Telluride unless you have a barricade pass affixed to the inside drivers windshield or a handicapped permit. Entering town without a proper parking pass will cause your car to be towed at your expense! Free parking is located throughout the valley in Telluride, Mtn Village, Lawson Hill, and Ilium Valley.

    No
But more than likely you can drive in and use one of the previously mentioned lots and shuttle.
Possibly if you can get to Mtn Village you can park and take the free gondola over the mtn into town. Don't know for sure.

Not only that, once you unload your gear you can't even park your car next to your camp site (unless you have a vehicle parking pass TOO which sold out immediately). I wondered where they are putting all the cards of campers! At least it's free parking.

They will give you a parking pass and direct you somewhere in town to park. It's the reason you can't drive in during the festival. This is a very small town that will be overcome with vehicles.

If anyone was able to purchase a Telluride Town Park CAR Camping Pass and you decide not to use it, I will gladly purchase it from you. Those sold out before I could buy one so I purchased just the straight Telluride Town Park Camping Pass. I was really wanting to sleep in my car. Now I have to find camping gear and figure out how to get it on the plane. I haven't camped out in 20 yrs. Pls PM me if you can help out.
...And he who forgets will be destined to remember.

...I swear I never took it for granted. Just thought of it now.

Doesn't seem like it would be a typical festival set if it will last over 3 1/2 hrs! Granted they probably won't go on until 730. Can't wait to see the running of the tarps! Hilarious!!!

I'm slightly confused and concerned about this parking business. I get into town before 4 on Friday and my hotel says they have "free limited parking". If there isn't a spot for my rental car at the hotel I have to park in Mountain Village (?for free), and take the gondola into town for the w/e and take it back Sunday morning so I can get my car and drive to the airport?

Hopefully the tarps don't get too out of control. They take up a lot of space and would put people who are without tarps further away. At least that's how other telluride festivals seem to be.

The Ride festival also replied they would play 3-4 hours. Not even bonnaroo gives them that long of a slot. Should be interesting. Can't wait.

most likely the limited free parking at the hotel will be full but don't look down upon the free gondola ride down and back up to mtn village to get your car. its a really sweet ride and something u should do while in town anyways. stop off at the half way point for a cool look out spot to take pictures from. the town will let u unload at your hotel so then u just have to drive to the mtn village and take the gondola down into the box canyon(t'ride). when u have to leave just take the gondola back up and go to the abundant free parking and drive down to the hotel and load back up and drive home. sometimes there's a line up for the gondola but it moves fast

Spending some time at higher elevation the week leading up to the festival would help. Maybe swing on over to Red Rocks for a couple days, work their way up to 8000 feet.
