I’m curious…with the US threatening our sovereignty and enacting harsh economic tariffs on us…where is that group of “true patriots”…you know, that CONVOY for Canadian FREEDOM with their big trucks and loud horns.

Where are these freedom fighters now?
Justin’s message got through to them via the prison sentences.

Do you seriously want to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them or something else?
obviously pointing out that they don't REALLY give a shit about "freedom in Canada" at all.
Or maybe they can’t be bothered standing with their fellow citizens who continue to shit on them to this day?

If I know I’m not welcome somewhere I don’t usually frequent the place or group.
that didn't stop them the first go round.

No one should have to justify their friendships to anyone but themselves, full stop.

Good to see McCarthyism alive and well in Canada.
no clue what the friendship comment means.
People are being required to justify their friendship or association with Trump (Gretzky most notably) where the politics has nothing (or very little) to do with the relationship.

Maybe you didn’t say it but others have.
well as Canadians they should likely have a fairly strong reaction to his 51st state bullshit and the tariffs and all that. If they don't, why not? Shouldn't EVERY Canadian, lib or con or whoever, be against that?

Not if they're Trump fans, and my impression is that many other most of those idiots are. For some reason there are even Canadians who donated to his fucking campaign, and they are over the moon about his win. They couldn't care less about Trump doing what he's doing - they will defend him no matter what for one reason or another. If the US declared war on Canada they'd probably defect and fight for the US honestly.

You can't have people claiming you to be the "greatest Canadian ever" and go around as a public figure representing Canadians at cultural events AND be supportive buddies with someone who threatens Canada's economy and sovereignty and constantly makes statements completely disrespecting its head of government and identity as a free nation. That's absolutely ridiculous. Gretzky can't have it both ways. He, his wife abd Bobby Orr are absolute fools if they think he can. The fact that they are essentially trying to gaslight Canadians about it now is hilarious to me, but pretty on-brand for Trump supporters.

That’s well said, once he associated himself so closely with Trump, wearing a MAGA hat, attending the inauguration, you can’t be Canada’s captain. If it’s the Oilers celebration then fine but when it’s Team Canada in this political climate, best for Wayne to just sit this one out. Tone deaf selection, there were so many others that would’ve been great.

They are territorial piss pots, living to survive their paradoxes.

What  I'm trying to understand here is that this appears to be utter hypocrisy... unless I'm mistaken. Breaking this down into crayons... we (most Canadians) are dismayed with the likes of Gretzky and Orr because of their ties to Trump.  Trump, the absolute piece of shit... let's set aside what he's doing and saying about Canada. As a person and a 'leader' he is going way out of his way to punish those who do not see things the way he sees things. He's going out of his way to punish those who don't agree with him.

Trump is literally the type of person who wouldn't just voice his negative opinion about someone but take action against it. Here we are voicing our negative opinion about Gretzky and that's somehow not cool? We should stay in our lane?  This has many names... gaslighting... manipulation... double standards. Whatever you want to call it.

Anyone who sides with Trump absolutely deserves the negative attention they get. And anyone who disagrees with that should really take a hard look at the man himself.... hopefully then they will understand why all the vitriol.

    Bull fucking shit.

If those fucks don't come out against Trump in support of their country they are traitors.
To me it's not a difficult thing to understand. There is a reason and a history as to why certain things are acceptable and certain things are not. No different than why Musk using the Nazi salute is and OUGHT to have been completely and utterly criticized. It wasn't. That's bad. Real bad.  If we condone bad actors and bad actions.. those actions will multiply.

To what Darth is saying... sure, you may not need to justify a friendship... but that's a two lane road. I don't need to justify my distain for that choice. And if there are consequences to someone having that friendship.... those consequences also do not require justification.

If I was friends with a racist, convicted sex offender piece of shit, I would probably have to justify that friendship quite often to be honest. It’s Gretzky’s choice obviously, he doesn’t need to justify it to Canadians, but take some accountability and don’t have your wife and Trump say how upset it makes you. It shouldn’t be that hard to understand why you’re being criticized.

Dana White justifies his friendship with him all the time. But DW is also a POS, so...

If you read the article you’ll discover Harper was just as bad. Given what they get paid this is unacceptable.

Special events can be accounted for separately to clear up the numbers.

With respect, if you don't mind... could you elaborate?

For me if I can take a swing at this... you mean to suggest that at some point, people like us (the left, liberals, etc.) will be subject to same type of criticism?  For that to be accurate, there would need to be a figurehead or politician that compares to Trump.  I highly, highly doubt that.

Trudeau is awful. And you can certainly draw comparisons to Trump in my opinion. But the degree to which each is awful is so, so, so, so, exponentially worse.

I’m firmly in the I no longer fucking care stage of my life. I’ll vote for my chosen candidate/party, with the full knowledge that:
    1. Nothing will get done
    2. things might actually get worse

Just as JT trounced Harper after the latter had been in office past his welcome, PP will trounce whichever liberal is chosen.

If PP weren’t employing trump-like rhetoric and tactics, I wouldn’t be concerned about a PC government. But he has. And we REALLY don’t need a PM that is a trump sympathizer.

“ I think his biggest problem is he's not a MAGA guy, you know? I mean, he's really not. He's not a Trump guy at all," the U.S. president replies.

I don't care what trump says about him. He's using the same rhetoric and tactics that trump uses. There's no denying this.

I don’t see it, but I’ll say again that Justin is far more similar to Trump, but everyone refuses to see it, and I really don’t understand why. The only explanation that’s ever been given is Justin speaks nicely, which misses the point.

Someone, anyone, make a CLEAR case that PP is Trump, preferably without just parroting the Liberal Party of Justin’s claims.
