PJ at Jazz Fest will NOT be the place to be if you want a long show and to actually get close...just look up the pics for last year when Elton John played at Acura, it was ridiculous...I was there...walked away over to Congo Square...it was absolutely horrible crowd.

how big of a crowd is jazz fest? 60k?

I just don't think I could do any big festivals at this point. Bonnaroo, Lola or the next Woodstock.

If they were to play 1 Chicago show (an hour away from me) this year and if it were Lollapalooza, I'd be out. Just like last time they played it.

In 2008, Bonnaroo had PJ on the schedule for a two-hour set, which would be the last one of the night on the main stage. After some schedule juggling, the fest appeased egomaniac Kanye West by letting him also have the main stage during the overnight hours (set to start more than two hours later than PJ's scheduled end), and even with another artist due up, PJ overran to almost three hours total.

The night before, My Morning Jacket played the midnight set at the second stage, and were allowed to go four hours (including a short intermission). Because Bonnaroo is on a private farm, and the stages are far from all neighbors, there's no curfew and the headliner shows can go as long as they need to.

Yea that MMJ set is legendary.
  • That MMJ set is one of the best sets I've ever listened to from any band ever.

The late night slot is the spot to get, not the headlining spot. Just look at how MMJ had to keep it to 2 hours last year when people were expecting at least 3.
    '08- Camden 1-2   '09- Chicago 2; Spectrum 1-4
    '10- MSG 1-2   '11- PJ20
'12- MIA; DeLuna '13- Wrigley; Pitt; Brooklyn 1-2; Philly 1-2; Baltimore; Seattle
    '14- Denver   '16- Philly 1-2; MSG 2
    '17- Pilgrimage Music Fest (Eddie)
    '18- Fenway

How long are the headliners' sets at Bonnaroo usually?

If they play there I may consider going. Would probably depend on who else would be there.

    1 hour & 45 minutes - 2 hours

But Bonnaroo allows the headliners to play as long as they want to without penalty and curfew. Jack White played 45 minutes over during his set in 2013
Yeah I know that about Jack, that's why I said 1h45min-2hrs, but I didn't know that headliners can play as long as they want! Sweet! :) I thought that only he played longer than usual.

Any chance the entire April/May tour is scrapped and they do a tour centered around bonaroo (similar to how 2013 was centered around ACL)? I figured the delay had something to do with Roo or perhaps coachella
PJ's 08 bonaroo set was amazing. That said, I've been back once since and I'm pretty sure I'll never go back.

As for the speculation that they are playing jazz fest, I seriously doubt it since they played it in 09 and voodoo in 13. I don't have any inside knowledge, just mere speculation after knowing PJ's tour patterns and the fact it's in my region ...

Can we start some speculation they are coming to Houston please???

I would be out of festivals too, im past that point in my life, but like I said before those who enjoy festivals will have a blast, but just not for me

Im thinking we will now see a tour very similar to the tour they did in 08 but more extensive. Now that the tour will prob start in June I think it will start in West Palm then make its way up. That's my prediction.

I agree. Maybe 15-20 years ago but not anymore. I need air conditioning, a bed, shower, and local drinking establishments at all my Pearl Jam shows now.
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

Never been to Jazz Fest, and it's probably the only festival I'd consider seeing them at. PJ, jazz, and Cajun food.... sounds like a win-win-win to me.

Sure, it's not as long as their regular sets, but look at the setlist from last time: So You Wanna Be A Rock'N'Roll Star, In My Tree, Tremor Christ, Lukin (played second), Half Full, Down. I wouldn't mind seeing that show.

Yea, I think it was a last minute Roo offer. So they will announce first half of 2016 at once which will include Roo and maybe another festival. Plus they can announce the possible Wrigley and Fenway at the same time.

Man I really don't want to go to Roo and can't imagine that a lot will go just for PJ since there will be so many shows close by

Might have to be careful with what is considered "close by" now. I recall Bonnaroo is pretty strict about dates and locations its headliners can play around that festival. That is what worries me about other potential southern dates, if this is true.
Atlanta is the only show that is close to the Roo radius. The SC and KY shows are fine.

In terms of logistics and coming back to TN in June makes 100% sense based on how much they will be paid by Roo to come back.

Cause it's clearly all about the ching ching...
