This feels so much like the Ron Paul / Dennis Kucinich early primary run before 08. False hope. I think that election cycle is what broke me politically, turned me into a cynic. Hope I'm wrong.
The Democratic Party will do all they can to crush Bernie.
Totally agree....and the GOP will try to crush Trump. Just like Paul/Kucinich. Which makes all of this seem like a sideshow - placates people by making them think their concerns are being heard. Then the rug gets pulled from under these 'men of the people', and you are left with the establishment choices - the people who have been able to dodge the tough topics because all of the people who push for reform spent months proselytizing their champion.
It does definitely feel futile. There is no way in hell that Sanders could even win this, so it is indeed false hope for those who actually want a man like that in power. A man like that - a good man - will NEVER have power in the USA.

So what is Bernies solutions to the dinner table issues? I admit I haven't done much by way of researching his positions, but I know he is left of the typical left? Why would I,an Independant be interested in his platform? Someone please enlighten me on why I should pay attention to this guy?(I'm not being a smart ass) I don't just vote D or R I base my ballot on the person and their stance on issues. If he has any chance it's with the support of non partisans like me.

He'll let you smoke pot! Checkmate!!!

He is staunchly opposed to the general state of corporate America and it's influence on the government. He is for increasing taxes on the highest earners to strengthen the middle class. Obviously pro-union. He pushes hard for student loan reform and cutting the cost of education. So yeah... He focuses mostly on the economy and ways to grow the middle class by raising taxes on the very wealthy and creating jobs.
Jimmy Fallon opened his monologue tonight talking about Bernie for a few minutes, about his passing of Hillary in the NH polls. Word is really starting to get out to the mainstream now.

Hears the link to the page on Sanders site that gives a run-down on how Sanders stands on issues.
I like his stance on economy, what he calls "real family values" (one of the sections on that link page I like the most), racial justice, getting big money out of politics (yes, thank you!) and creating decent paying jobs (we all like that). He's a little weak on environment for my tastes because to me the environment would come first on a list of major issues. (The answer is, "Yes, I really do believe that," ). What's there is great but it isn't broad enough in scope IMHO. In a world that cannot support a healthy and wide variety of life (including us), there are no economic, racial, social or political issues. Hopefully he will come out stronger on environment.

Great!

If he identifies himself as a socialist, he will never get my vote. I like toilet paper, comrade.
Democratic socialist.
Which is a LOT different than Socialist.
Yet I would bet my life that you never hear Fox News add te "democratic" part to it. Hell most left leaning sites that I've been reading dont even include it, it's pathetic and ultimately might be the reason he doesn't win.
What's crazy to me is that everything I read keeps saying things like "he's so far left" and "left wing nutjob", even the sites that are pro-Bernie say things like this. But where is the evidence?! What in this video shows that he is some extremist that only appeals to the furthest left voters? Because to me it all sounds like common sense. In a country of 319 million people the decision of who our highest ranked leader shouldn't be left up to a handful of billionaires, NO FUCKING DUH! How is that such an extreme stance, has capitalism really got that far out of hand that not only is this the not the most popular opinion but it's also considered "left wing"?

For sure! Fox and people like Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter and that ever loving teddy bear, Rush Limbaugh will do their damnedest to paint Bernie Sander in red paint with pink over tones. They will jump on this opportunity like kids on a candy wagon and won't let go until the cart tips over. Sanders has his work cut out for him proving himself to be a common sense man who cares for the welfare of the people. But I think he's up to it. His forthright, honest, sensible approach will wear down those who would falsely belittle him with erroneous attributes and he will come out on top.

the people who fear the word socialist or use it as a slur need only look in a dictionary.
Totally. I'm not sure what the history behind this American fear of "socialists" is, but I'm thinking maybe it stems from McCarthyism or something??? It definitely has that same feel of random philosophical fear that has no basis in reality.

Oh yeah for sure, it's America's first step to becoming the USSR to many people. Just like backround checks are the first step to the government coming door to door for your guns.

Actually, Rush and Hannity are so consumed with Hilary they have little to say about Sanders, aside from his effect on Hillary's campaign. The funny thing is that Clinton is their best option for a democratic candidate, as she is hardly a true progressive.
Does that mean that Sanders is above reproach even for the nutbags (given their brand of criticism, which always had a tinge of nasty), or that they are just dismissing him as a non-factor in this election, just like many are dismissing Trump outside of the comedic factor?

It isn't either, it is simply an obsession with Hillary. They just salivate over Hillary's mistakes, the obsession with Benghazi is just the tip of the iceberg. They love pointing out that Sanders is catching her in the polls, and they are a bit dismissive of him, often calling him things like a curmudgeon. They do take him seriously in the sense that "insurgent candidates" are all the rage right now, a reflection on the distaste with the DC establishment.
Rush refers to the Clinton Foundation as the Clinton Family Crime Foundation and Hannity plays two sound bites "Don't you someday want to see a woman President?" and "What difference, at this point, does it make?" at least a few times each hour, sometimes looping them like a JV DJ on a failing top 40 station.
They spend hours each talking about her every single day, and even admit that they need to move to different topics sometimes, though they rarely do.

Sounds unbearable. I try watching Fox News once in a while because I think it's important to know what bullshit is being put out there for the masses to believe, but after about 5 minutes I just can't take it anymore.
