I miss back when grammar meant something. With this generation looking like a complete idiot is fine. There, their, they're are 3 different words. Then and than are 2 different words with 2 different meanings.

Can grumpy old men use hashtags?
I miss when lol, btw, omg and the like hadn't invaded our lexicon. It's okay in a text or on a message board, but not in speech!

usually those speeders are ballers that think they own the road-my boss warned me to watch for other people in the neighborhood, "watch out for other people, they speed through here because they're rich and think they own the road, I've seen a lot of really bad accidents here."Empty Glass said:Someone mentioned earlier "playing in the road". I was reminded of something on the way to work, people in our neighborhood refuse to stop at stop signs.
I miss back when people stopped at stop signs and weren't in so much of a hurry to get everywhere. I read a local editorial a year or so ago where someone bitched about kids in the road and blah blah blah. In a neighborhood, kids of a certain age should be able to play in the road. I want to put up a basketball hoop but it'd have to be where the kids shoot from the road, I'm afraid to because assholes treat the neighborhood roads like a speedway.
Long story short, F you neighborhood speeders and those that can't stop at stop signs.
...and today I almost got taken out by some guy in a beemer, blew through the roundabout at like 40.The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

You can request songs during certain radio shows...but it's rare...most of the time the DJ's play what they want and they only time they'll play something for you is if you have like a real-deal sentimental/emotional request/dedication going out to someone...it's really sad, my kid doesn't know what it's like to call in to a radio station...The Waiting Trophy Man said:Yeah I remember collecting baseball and hockey cards. I still have them.
I did that once and got RVM played on the radio. This was in the late 90's. Don't they do this anymore?PJSiren said:Recording songs from the radio...lol

There are several basketball hoops in our neighborhood and boys that play out in them, and there are cars that go speeding through the neighborhood too, I always worry about those boys...Empty Glass said:Someone mentioned earlier "playing in the road". I used to almost get plowed over on a regular basis at the fucking crosswalk walking to the train station every morning...and I went when it was my turn to go and the fucking cars didn't pay any attention, I kicked the shit out of one once, I even had my steel-toed shit kickers on when I did it and left a dent in their fender I was pleased with myself.Music is my Religion and Pearl Jam, my Savior!

One of the radio stations here does the alphabet request hour, last letter of the song title has to be the first letter of the next song so the DJ starts out with 'Stairway to Heaven' then someone calls in to request 'Nevermind', then the next request would be 'Daughter' etc, etc.PJSiren said:

The afternoon show still has people call in to tell stories...The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

Yeah the morning show that used to be on my country station of choice would have ppl call in, then the two DJs got let go for some mysterious reason...and then I know Nikki Six's show has people call in sometimes...and I used to listed to him, and there was a show I listened to late at night in college who had ppl call in...Music is my Religion and Pearl Jam, my Savior!

I really miss pirate radio. Nowadays everything is digital and pirate radio no longer exists as you can just set up online. Here in Ireland we had Radio Caroline out on a boat in the Irish Sea and then we had Phantom FM, to whom I owe a great debt for introducing me to so much of what I now listen to. The element of secrecy just made it even better (though I'm sure they don't feel quite as nostalgic of being constantly under threat of raids!). Back then you could ring up radio stations on a normal phone number and chat to the DJ too, rather than texting a number that costs you more than twice as much as a regular text. There was hardly any advertising on pirate stations either, just good music and genuine craic. God I really really miss it...0
