Thanks elmacho. I was thinking IT might be tough to get a cab.
To the few who booked hotel raizor how's the area around the hotel? When I looked the other day it seemed a bit dead by the venue. Seemed good for 1 night but for 3-5 days it seems downtown or reforma has more restaurants and things to do.0 -

I just did a quick google maps check before I booked and you're right it's not right in the thick of things but it has enough around and seems to be fairly close to transit so if you were there for a few days you could get around. It's a personal preference for me to be closer to the venue as I had really bad experience trying to get back to my hotel after a show once. But if your looking to be more in the thick of it then it may not be what you are looking for.Red Lukin said:Thanks elmacho. I was thinking IT might be tough to get a cab.

Good point. I'm second guessing myself now. It's a 2 hour walk from where I want to stay or 22 min cab ride. But there's never a guarantee of catching a cab after a show..northerndragon said:I just did a quick google maps check before I booked and you're right it's not right in the thick of things but it has enough around and seems to be fairly close to transit so if you were there for a few days you could get around. just google walked from the Raizor to the venue. Says 40 min (likely only 20-30) but the area looks a bit sketchy for a night time walk. Not worried at all about getting over to venue on busy roads in daylight Saturday AM, downtown or elsewhere for some tourist sights on Friday and Sunday, or getting to / from airport (hotel shuttle)... just somewhat concerned re getting back after the show.
getting a cab out after will likely be tough and have been reading about cab safety issues as well. Safety in numbers if there was a group walking back i guess? Anyone have thoughts or experience?IF NOTHING IS EVERYTHING, I'LL HAVE IT ALL.

Just got my GA tickets tonight to Mexico City! So pumped!
We plan on staying one or two nights near the stadium, within 2.0miles away... I wouldn't mind walking it, or easy cab ride. My fiancé speaks fluent Spanish so I'm lucky to have her tag along with me the whole trip. That will help...
I think it will be an epic show being the last show of the Latin Amer Tour

The cabs after the show usually are charging like 200 or 300 pesos, I would choose the closest hotel to the Foro, and theres lot of cabs outside just waiting its a good bussines for them.0

I booked a suite in Roma. It looks like a pretty cool area. It's a 15 min cab ride from Foro Sol, but I read online the metro is open until 1am on Saturdays. Worst case I'll stumble to the airport and catch a cab from there. Or I'll walk with you jammers to Riazor and ask the hotel to call me a cab.Post edited by Red Lukin on0

Once we get closer to the concert we can organize a meet up and make sure there is a plan to get everyone back to there respective beds safe and sound.Anything you lose from being honest

Colonia Roma is indeed a good place to stay (and Pearl Jam usually stay in a nearby hotel), but the metro really closes at 12 AM even on Saturdays. You shouldn't be worried about the cabs though; like Gabriel E. Ponzos said, there are plenty after a show.Red Lukin said:I booked a suite in Roma. It looks like a pretty cool area. Five of us from NYC will be staying at the Riazor as well. If we all meet up and walk back we should be good, safety in numbers.northerndragon said:Once we get closer to the concert we can organize a meet up and make sure there is a plan to get everyone back to there respective beds safe and sound.
See you all in 8 months!!NYPJ0 -
I was in Mexico City in 06. I´m pretty sure you had to go for the cabs with a certain logo attached to them. I seem to recall it being an eagle or so. Ad perhaps they were green, not sure. Those are the legit cabs and are completely safe.ryanjp2323 said:just google walked from the Raizor to the venue. On a sidenote, the cab couldn´t drive to the zocalo due to a demonstration blocking the road. We had to walk a few miles to our hotel in the middle of the night, with all our stuff, and we didn´t know exactly where the hotel was. Now THAT was a scary experience!
You don´t want to walk around in Mexico City at night!

I wouldn't recommend walking from Foro Sol to the RIazor at night...It's not a very pedestrian-friendly area. Lots of big roads and avenues with almost no pedestrian crossings in that zone. As someone said, there will be plenty of cabs... they just like to overcharge after a concert
Hey, if I happen to see some canadians looking around for a cab after the show, I'll gladly take a couple of you to your hotel. It's on my way home...
BTW, if you want some Mexico city night life, go to Colonia Roma, Coyoacan, La Condesa, Zona Rosa, Polanco, Reforma, Insurgentes Sur, Zocalo... the zone around the foro sol doesn't have much night life and is a bit sketchy...

Good to know 82. I thought I was in Roma, but it turns out I'm in La Condesa, just west of Roma, off of Insurgentes. It looks like there's a ton of bars and restaurants there. I can see being by the venue if you're in town for a night, but it doesn't make sense to me for multiple nights. I mean I should be able to plan something to make it back to the hotel. Worst case I die after seeing Pearl Jam. At least I'll be famous and on the news, and all over this forum if I don't make it back to my hotel alive. jk of course as I'm just feeding into the paranoia!0

Sounds like the Raizor and Holiday inn across the street will be full of PJ folks from all over and am looking forward to meeting some of you! Having never been to Mexico City my plan is stay close to reason I'm heading down the venue!
Arrive close to midnight on Thursday and my plan is to cab down to the cathedral area and plaza down town to do some walking and see the sites for the day Friday.
Anyone knows a centrally located bar / venue/ area that we can informally gather at Friday night? Was in St Paul this past fall and the pub crawl the night before the show that was organized was a blast. Something like that would be sweet. hit up some Mexican bars / pubs, drink and socialize with fellow fans from around the world. Awesome!
Plan to head to the venue fairly early to line up. didn't line up at Wrigley or any of the other GA shows ive been lucky to attend but for some reason feel compelled to for this show. Getting back to the hotel will happen safely im sure... after the show SITTING around in relative open space waiting for a cab will likely feel like heaven.
Sleep it off a bit Sunday.. have the afternoon and evening for some more touring and maybe a nice meal... off to the airport Monday AM.
November can't come soon enough!
