well, a sold out crowd here in winnipeg for the oceania show would say different. and I personally don't listen to music to seem cool.

I think I like a total of 2 SP songs. He seems like a bitch.
As others have said I think Howard is a big pj fan and would love to have them in.
Howard is a fan of Pearl Jam's and Foo Fighters music. I think he has Corgan on the show because he's opinionated, Howard just likes when someone expresses themselves and are definitive.
Corgan seems to always be running his mouth about the Seattle music guys in general; he ripped Soundgarden a few months ago as well. It's really the only way Billy can get attention anymore it seems. So I would concur he's a bitch at this point; a very bitter, jealous, & irrelevant bitch known more for his soundbites than his music, sad.

love corgan hahahahah hes a really smart guy but he obviously has extreme jealousy issues and some very deep self confidence problems so i tend to take what he says with a grain of salt. He doesn't like eddie? who gives a fuck? Kurt Cobain hated pearl jam and their sound this is a pearl jam forum so obviously people are gunna get butthurt over corgans comments but yall have to realize that not everyone in the world loves this band as much as us

Sure he sounds like a whiny bitch, but I'd put Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie against any other band's top back-to-back output. Those albums are beyond classic.
How has time not been that great to PJ and what luck have they received? IMO Their legacy is top notch in the music industry not the publics as the general public doesn't understand the band and what they stand for. We do naturally blow their relevance out of proportion on this board because it is deserving of it. IMHO of course.
True, they do have quite a bit of respect in the industry, but I think the general public is equally important. The fact is they've not aged well to the majority of music fans and that includes people that are into similar music.
They've made alot of their own luck, but I could see where things could've turned out differently. Stuff like keeping virtually the same lineup and having a very devoted fanbase is incredibly lucky and has had a major impact on alot of the decisions they've made through the years.
ummmm, correct me if i am wrong, but in the last 12 months didnt they put out a #1 album and sell out arenas from Seattle, to Sao Paulo, to San Siro, to Syndey?
yeah, they havent aged well at all and will be on the casino circuit any day now... lol

Howard is a fan but only wants eddie on the hot seat. I remember back at krock the band was doing an interview with the dj and mike wanted to come in with Howard after but he declined because he only wanted to talk to Ed. Billy screwed up the original sp lineup it's been all downhill from there

wow, that is a WEIRD comparison.
Lol, it is. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is fucking GENIUS. I don't like anything that Corgan has done recently though. "The Corgan Comeback" just isn't doing anything for me music wise... and his totally repellent personality is just the rotten cherry on the shit cake.

I still listen to the Pumpkins every now and then - they easily make my top 5 bands that I spent the 90s listening to (and Nirvana don't, by the way) - but Billy has always been this way. Can anybody remember an interview where he didn't talk shit or make himself out to be the messiah? It wouldn't make a difference if he was talking about Eddie or One Direction, it's just Billy being Billy. He's nuts, and he'll never change.
The first 4 SP albums were really good in my opinion, and Siamese Dream is a masterpiece. It all started to go wrong with the 2 Machina records but he can still come up with a few decent tunes. You just need to remember to not take Billy seriously and concentrate on the music
“Do not postpone happiness”
(Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)
Do I agree with Billy's comments. No. Is he allowed to have an opinion? Yes.
Do I listen to the Smashing Pumpkins. I do. I love Gish, Siamase Dream, Picses Iscariot, Mellon Collie, the Aeroplan Flies high boxset, and a few songs from Adore. I'm not going to crap on the music because Billy said something about my favourite band that I didn't like.
I'm not sure why he doesn't get Pearl Jam but it doesn't really matter. I know a number of people that don't get Pearl Jam either, but no one gives a shit about their opinion's
Sure he sounds like a whiny bitch, but I'd put Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie against any other band's top back-to-back output. Those albums are beyond classic.
Absolutely. I think people forget how good those albums are. I find it somewhat ironic that Billy Corgan named an album Zeitgeist, when in fact he released not one, but two albums both far more befitting of the title in the 90's.
My problem with these comments he's made, is that the quality of his own music took a massive nose-dive after Mellon Collie. He became so hell bent on experimenting, that he forgot where his real strengths lie - his guitar playing, and more importantly his sense of melody. And therefore people have gradually shown less and less appreciation for what he does. That's not to say he can't still write good songs, there have been a few in the last decade or so, and after a couple of listens I'd say the new record is easily the best stuff he's done in quite some time.
Billy Corgan is responsible for the demise of his band and popularity. No question. Smashing Pumpkins were up there with Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and STP but Corgan blew it and killed the legacy. SP put out some great, great records that probably all but 10 bands in the nineties would haved killed for.
I don't care what Billy Corgan thinks about anything, and neither should you. If people are going to form their opinion of anything based on an interview someone did on Howard Stern, we have bigger problems with humanity than a bunch of people being misinformed about Pearl Jam.
Controversy sells albums and creates a buzz. Just look at this useless thread. 3 pages of people talking about Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins. Then there's the facebook crowd now whining and bitching about Billy Corgan. Name is again relevant and in front of the people.
He also said that Pearl Jam is a great band...so...
He just believes his shit is better than Pearl Jam. So big deal.

BILLY CORGAN IN NEW Q&A: CHICAGO HAS ‘TOO MANY GHOSTS’

According to a new interview posted Tuesday on the Wall Street Journal’s arts and entertainment blog,Smashing Pumpkins frontman, Chicago-area resident Billy Corgan, is over lots of things. Among them: his name, the genre of music that made him famous and his town.
He doesn’t “like being in the city anymore,” Corgan, who has lived for more than a decade in a Highland Park mansion, says of Chicago. “Too many ghosts. Too many betrayals, disappointments. There’s the twin I used to date. There’s the dude who f—– me over. There’s where I bought my Marshall amp. Inevitably it connects to a lot of history.”
The Q&A is pegged to the release of a new Pumpkins album, “Monuments to an Elegy.” But don’t expect much more music in the same vein.
“The next album is like the end, end, end,” Corgan proclaims. “The trite way to say it is I’m over rock ‘n’ roll. Which is strange, because rock ‘n’ roll is getting back into me.”
Oh, and he’d appreciate it if you’d stop calling him Billy.
“When I was a kid, I was Little Bill. Then I was Bill. In high school I tried to go to my middle name, Patrick, and everyone refused that. When I turned 18 I wanted to be Billy because that’s what my dad was always called and I hated the name Bill. I had about four uncles named Bill, and I just hated the sound of the word. But I don’t really feel like Billy anymore, so I’ve been trying to go back to my real name, which is William.”
