I may be biased, as this was my first PJ show ever. But I thought it was F"N AWESOME! It was everthing I had hoped and more. I have 10c seats to Pitt and I am so anxious now. I cant wait!!!
The whole show was just brilliant to me. I enjoyed every single minute of it. And my seats sucked. 2nd floor and it was rocking up there! Just shows if you want to have a good time, you will!
Does anyone know what the poster said that Eddie stopped on behind the stage when he was reflecting the light off of his guitar? I couldn't see from where I was sitting...

first hour-fifteen was incredible .... encores were a letdown. instead of leaving the arena spent, i was left looking for more and totally opposite the feeling i had heading home on 9-11-98 and 7-8-2003.
I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.
my seat sucked i got them from some guy on here. section 206 last row of section all by myself. so i said fuck this and was walking around the upper deck of the arena for the whole show. i was on cready side for a little bit and was on stone side for a little bit. then i was behind matt for evenflow and the rest of the show. moral of my story is by the fucking 10c tickets when they go on sale.

There was a big sign/bed sheet sign behind the stage that said something like "stop fuckin around and play leash"...it said more at the top of the bed sheet and more at the bottom of the bed sheet, but that's all i could make out from my section (109)!

I thought the show was Great. They played "Whipping". I don't know about anyone else but I haven't haeard that song in many ages. "Vitalogy" is one of my favorite. Ed putting Mike on his shoulders were adorable!

My 5th show of the tour and I'd have to rate it #1 of the 5 (Over Hartford, Boston 1 & 2, and E.Ruth 1 - with Hartford a distant 5th).
My highlights were:
In Hiding - caught me by surprise as I'd pretty much given up on seeing it. Stone's guitar was distant sounding at first. The crowd was really digging it and singing the chorus very loudly.
Don't Gimme No Lip - Preceded by a very gracious speech from Stone praising EdVed. Is this the only song where Mike sings as well (on backup)? Loved the WOOOOO's from Stone. It was such a fun number.
And of course Mike wailing away on the axe while Ed carried him around. I thought there might be a problem with the dismount, but it went smooth.
It was also great the way Mike stepped to edge of the stage and under the spotlight, played those sweet licks at the end of "I Am Mine"
Hard To Imagine and Lukin were also pleasant surprises.

in no way is this a criticism...but after the power went out during animal, did it seem like the band was turned down a lot volume wise? especially eds vocals?
Definitely!!!! Before the power went out they were LOUD...then after they "fixed" the mic's they were no where near as loud until they switched mic's again. For about 2-3 songs after the power outtage I could hear everyone singing around me over Ed, the music was still loud, just Ed was muffled. And it wasnt b/c the people got louder, its b/c Ed got quieter. You could even tell when he got on the mic after the outtage when he was talking to the crowd it sounded static-y and muffled. Thank God they finally fixed it.
Other than that it was another amazing show by the boys!!
Out of the last 12 Shows in a row I've been to on this tour... NJ Night 2 takes its place in top 3 from the 06' Tour.
Still..... CONTINENTAL VENUE SUX.... the venue itself, the people that work there, the location...
BRING BACK PNC ARTS CENTER SHOWS !!!
Agreed. I hate Continental. This is the first venue where I've seen drug sniffing dogs roaming around the perimeter. Not to mention the security staff was not properly trained on PJ's policies, and the staff supposedly bought up the posters.
Were you even there last night? the crowd was unbelievable. are you talking aobut the June 3 rd show?
i was there, it was my 19th show , fifth this tour, ranked 4th out of the five shows i saw, only hartford was worse, sat in section 104 , in the second to last row, i thought the crowd was nothing special, they had their moments, last kiss , alive and ledbetter, other than that just ok.
bostons crowds blew this crowd away, if that sound problem happened in boston , the roof probably would have blown off the place.
I thought the sound was good, could actually hear ed clearly on most of the songs because no one in my area was singing.
Most annoying things of the night were a couple in front of us sitting down and locking lips the whole time, and the moron next me who asked me what every song was, during black he tapped me on the shoulder and asked if the song was called EVERYTHING! i just nodded yes, he then proceeded to ask me if every song was a new one including crazy mary, asked if last kiss was off their fourth album!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!
to sum it up , had a great time tailgating , myself and boston lou were the first people to arrive and set-up in lot 22 around 1:00, consumed many beers and met some cool people. had a great laugh watching these mooks playing pitch and catch with an umpire, batter with no bat, that was some great free comedy.
The show was good , still never been to a bad one in 19, but how some people can say it rivals msg 1 is a question i have. if msg 1 was that shows equal then you people need to travel to see PJ , because either one of the boston shows blew that one away.
Maybe my expectations were just too high with it being the last show on the leg. I feel if ed respected the area he would never open with same 3 three songs two shows in a row, especially in the same area.
still had a great time , hoping to maybe shoot out to the gorge in july.
NO TIME TO BE VOID OR SAVE UP ON LIFE, YOU GOT TO SPEND IT ALL!!!!!!!
I haven’t had a chance to read all the fanviews because I’m at work, so if I repeat anything, I apologize.
Actually I really just want to say I had a great time at this show. My 10club seats were AWESOME. I would take these seats every show. I was 11th row in Section 101. You could see everything that happened on stage, including Ed falling, Boom flailing on the keyboards, Matt rocking out. I just love this band. Stone was too funny singing Don’t Give Me No Lip, a frontman he will never be, but it was cool to see. I love having that almost panoramic view of the stage. I’ve been 2nd row and 4th row before, but I’d much rather have these seats. It’s just a different experience being able to see everything that happens on stage.
Ed did the sweetest thing late in the show, I don’t know if it’s been mentioned here. Toward the end, Jill and Damien Echols wife were standing on the right side of the stage and Ed ran over, crouched a little bit, crossed his hands at his wrists, did a little double wave thingy, and then turned one hand around, touched his fingers to his lips and blew a kiss to Jill.
It was the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen.
As far as the crowd, the people around me were totally into it.
There were these two guys in front of me, who seemed to know most of the songs and were really enjoying themselves. But for some reason, one way of their enjoyment was to continually punch each other. And I mean, HARD. It was bizarre to say the least, but hell they were enjoying themselves and they never touched me, so it didn’t matter. It was just weird.
oh I also want to thank the two guys from Rochester who managed to swindle a deal with a cab driver to get us out the arena, when it appeared we may be there all night long. Thanks again, that was one of the funniest cab rides I've ever had.
probably the worst venue i've ever seen a show at, to repeat what someone else said here, the staff, the sound, all the dirty effing NJ Devils banners hanging in front of my face. poopey.
i had people chanting for yellow ledbetter near me and i nearly lost it. arent people FED UP with hearing them close with the same effing song over and over and over and over and over......ad nauseum! someone talked about PJ's unpredictability, but them closing with YL is nearly as predictable as the sun rise. too bad i missed thurs., havent heard indifference since Merryweather '98. EW!!
Rats was my highlight, I think I heard it once in '96, I don't remember. but, like Satan's Bed in Philly (er, Camden), it sounded real crisp. loved it. i could hear Hard to Imagine every show.......

it's amazing to me that people have such high opinions of the crowd at this show
i sat in section 104 so I was in the back and maybe that contributed to my opinion but I feel like the crowd sucked donkey nuts
i heard the crowd singing twice... during last kiss and alive ... that tells you a lot right there
and since i was in the back i also could see the whole crowd and it didn't look like many people were into it besides those 2 songs
i'm not saying everyone... but the crowd as a whole
by the last couple of songs like 20% of the crowd had left ... where did they have to rush off to on a saturday night?
i guess everyone's "crowd perspective" is different... good for you people who thought it was the best show ever
oh and a week ago i usually believed what ed said on stage... now after going to boston then philly then east ruth... i realize he loves every crowd and tells them something to that affect... unless they suck then he tells them that
but at Boston 1 the look on his face and the rest of the band seemed like they were genuinely blown away by the crowd
personally i thought both boston shows and the philly shows had amazing crowds...
but whatever ... it's nice that everyone should be able to attend the "best show ever"
As mentioned in earlier posts, I am great they skipped the usual Betterman, Daughter.... This setlist is the best I have seen live over the 5 shows I've seen over the years. Could still be better (no more Last Kiss for example).
Crowd for great and very energetic, really into it, and i don't think the technical problem killed the momentum at all. However, it sucked to see people starting in the middle of Alive, especially people on the floor... Oh, and those annoying teenage girls in the row behind me that just kept screaming for no reason for the first 30mn. Sounded like they had a contest among themselves. Almost ruined the show for me but then they shut up. Couldn't scream anymore I guess.
As far as the sound, it was fine from where I was except for Leash. Given all the comments on how bad the sound was, I'm curious to hear the boot.
Band was really enjoying themselves and yes, they didn't end up the show in the NYC area by mistake. Eddie acknowledge the crowd energy early in the show, comparing it to night 1.
All in all, I am so glad I went to this show and be so pissed if I had not.

New York City 09-10-1998

this show was gr8, the crowd was DEFINITELY better than NJ1 and, after being in both Boston shows, gotta say that this crowd was the loudest, even with all the sound problems the band had
moreover, you cannot trust eddie literally when he says boston 1 was louder than SA, you know it's not true
but this is MHO, let's wait for the boots to have a more objective comparison
Originally I wasn't going to this show and didn't by tix through TC. Luckily for me, a great friend bought tix and invited me...I'm so glad I went. I was hoping for "Not For You," "Why Go" and "Black." 2 out of 3 ain't too shabby!
I ended up sitting section 117, maybe 7 rows off the stage. Great view of Stoney, Boom and Ed and of course Cameron perched up on his pedestal! Thankfully Big Mike made his way over to my side of the stage a couple of times.
Anyway, everybody in my section was very into the show, singing the entire night...and that includes most of the "rare" tracks. Yes, there were a handful of people that didn't sing, and a handful that maybe didn't know everything, but for the most part...great crowd!
There were two kids that started to complain when Ed came out for the 1st encore talking about the West Memphis Three...they wanted him to "just play." So this big guy in front of them told to shut up and then I just said "You really have no idea about Pearl Jam do you?" They quieted down and ended up being kinda cool...I must say that one of them got very caught up in the rest of the show and by the end when the lights were on for Alive he was blown away by the whole experience.
Also to note...section 117 front row security changed shifts 3-4 times...the last guy was there for quite sometime and was also very impressed by the crowd.
EDIT: Also...section right next to me...during Last Kiss a couple held up a "WAR SUCKS" t-shirt that caught the eye of the sound crew...they got Stone's attention and pointed out the shirt. Stone shot the couple a huge smile and then pointed out the shirt to Boom. It's always cool when they acknowledge the fans.
After the PA problem was fixed the sound was shitty!! I was on the floor in Sec 8 and the show lost all of its energy after that. I could imagine what it sounded like in the upper sections. I ended up leaving after Last Exit, it just wasnt happening. I have seen them on every tour since the VS tour and never thought of leaving early.

Sammi: Wanna just break up?
It said "Let Us Prey"
There was a big sign/bed sheet sign behind the stage that said something like "stop fuckin around and play leash"...it said more at the top of the bed sheet and more at the bottom of the bed sheet, but that's all i could make out from my section (109)!

Oh well, back to work, have a good day everyone.
i had people chanting for yellow ledbetter near me and i nearly lost it. arent people FED UP with hearing them close with the same effing song over and over and over and over and over......ad nauseum! someone talked about PJ's unpredictability, but them closing with YL is nearly as predictable as the sun rise. too bad i missed thurs., havent heard indifference since Merryweather '98. EW!!
Rats was my highlight, I think I heard it once in '96, I don't remember. but, like Satan's Bed in Philly (er, Camden), it sounded real crisp. loved it. i could hear Hard to Imagine every show.......

i sat in section 104 so I was in the back and maybe that contributed to my opinion but I feel like the crowd sucked donkey nuts
i heard the crowd singing twice... during last kiss and alive ... that tells you a lot right there
and since i was in the back i also could see the whole crowd and it didn't look like many people were into it besides those 2 songs
i'm not saying everyone... but the crowd as a whole
by the last couple of songs like 20% of the crowd had left ... where did they have to rush off to on a saturday night?
i guess everyone's "crowd perspective" is different... good for you people who thought it was the best show ever
oh and a week ago i usually believed what ed said on stage... now after going to boston then philly then east ruth... i realize he loves every crowd and tells them something to that affect... unless they suck then he tells them that
but at Boston 1 the look on his face and the rest of the band seemed like they were genuinely blown away by the crowd
personally i thought both boston shows and the philly shows had amazing crowds...
but whatever ... it's nice that everyone should be able to attend the "best show ever"
And I've been to many shows, and Ed usually says that the particular crowd is better than the last, etc. It doesn't mean anything.
However, when they were saying their goodbyes, I thought they were all generally happy with the crowd's response.
All in all, I am so glad I went to this show and be so pissed if I had not.

moreover, you cannot trust eddie literally when he says boston 1 was louder than SA, you know it's not true
but this is MHO, let's wait for the boots to have a more objective comparison
