Wow, you must have been in a down section because the 5 minutes they spent fixing the sound were probably the loudest the crowd was all night (and thats saying something!)...

I came to hear the band play though. So 5 minutes of people yelling didn't do anything for me. And the sound sucked from then on, so it was an effort to really get back into the show. I guess it wasn't a problem on the floor or on Mike's side, but on Stone's side and the upper levels, everyone seems to be saying the sound was awful after the Animal problems.

I was 11th row center for night 1 and it was my best show experience in years. I won't let last night get me down, I still had 4 really great shows on this tour.

I agree, I don't think it killed the momemtum at all. I had a hard time figuring out what was going on from where I was sitting, I originally thought that there was a problem with Jeff's rig, since I could see people messing around with it. I was wondering why Eddie didn't address the crowd during that, but later found out that all the power was out. You're right, the crowd was really pumped up at that point and I don't think that it hurt anything. Ed made a few jokes and smoothed it out then they went on to rock the place for the next 2 1/2 hours.

I can't say enough how great this show was, it didn't quite compare to the two 3 hours sets that I saw at Randalls Island in '96 and MSG '03, but it was very close.

I've seen about 10 concerts at that arena over the years and I can tell you from experience, unless you're on the floor in the front 2 sections, the sound sucks. For some reason, the higher up you go, the more muffled the sound gets, the acoustics are horrible, at the time it was built, I don't think they considered that they would be holding concerts there.

I'm hoping that the new arena in Newark is built better acoustically since that's where all the concerts will be instead of Continental Airlines Arena.

HAVENT YOU PEOPLE HEARD THE NEW VERSION OF GARDEN YET? why am i the only one who cheers when they start it but everyone around me didnt know what was happening until ed started singing.

    No, I haven't. I guess I'm a hideous Pearl Jam fan.

But anyway on to my hideous-PJ-fan review!

I thought it was another awesome show!

My Morning Jacket has such a great 70s rock band vibe going for it.

Pearl Jam started on all cylinders again with a similar setlist, but then went way off with great stuff like Hail Hail and In Hiding (my personal favorite song EV-ERRRRRRR). They're really on their game. There's nothing I don't want to hear.

I thought the crowd was great and loud, but it's clear a lot of us in the crowd have gotten older. I gotta admit I stop pogoing a lot sooner than I used to. But at least I stay up for the whole set!!

I am knocked out by the richness of the new album material in the live outlet. Inside Job was tremendous, just like Come Back was at the show before.

I love how Porch and Garden have been transformed. They SCORCHED Porch! Loved hearing Hard to Imagine and Lukin' and Rats. And I knew as soon as I saw all the Breath signs that we weren't gonna get Breath.

These shows I will always remember as the Matt shows, he is such a key cog to the machine at this point. I'm really so knocked out by him -- and I think his backup vocals are fabulous. He has musical chemistry with everyone. And speaking of that the Boom-McCready runs were awesome!

It was great that Stone took the Mike. Loved his little speech about EdVed and then I was surprised to hear "Don't Give Me No Lip."

Oh, my revelation of probably both days (beyond Matt, who I already did love) was I Am Mine. This is never a song I really took to, but this was just searing. It was mine-meldingly good.

Like another poster, I thought it was great that the band played to the crowd behind them and that they picked the right song to do that to.

Speaking of posters... I'm THRILLED with the show's poster, as I'm an obsessive compulsive Devils fan (YES, we do exist). It was great going into the Winners Club, a place I thought I'd never be.

This was my first Pearl Jam concert. "In Hiding" is my favorite song of all time and I never thought they would play it. And they did. I was blown away...

It's all thanks to the Yield stone!(hahaha only a few people may get that)
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

    Some die just to live.
  • crowd was fuckin horrible, ed tried everything to get them going, the only songs they were awake for were last kiss and alive, it's a shame they decided to end the tour here, the crowd sucked!
Were you even there last night? the crowd was unbelievable. are you talking aobut the June 3 rd show?

You have to be Nuts to think night 1 was better.

Granted, 11th row center vs. sec. 122 row 19 had a LOT to do with it. And getting fucked out of a poster because the vendors don't understand the meaning of "one per customer" put me in a foul mood to begin with...but there are certain songs that are my favorites to hear at shows and they played so many of them Thursday night. Immortality, Not for You, Alone, Last Exit, Why Go, Baba and Indifference. Plus I thought the pacing and overall performance was better, and the sound was a million times better where I was. I just had a much better time Thursday.

I dont know if this was posted yet.. But, If noone buys the posters from ebay, than the people who paid a ton of money for 20 at a time who have dollar signs floating around in there head will be stuck wiping there ass with them if noone buys them, Or possibly trading or selling them cheaper to get rid of them. Just a thought. The PJ family on here, Although its shrinking has stuck together in the past for changes. It just all depends on your will power not to need one and rewarding the jerks who are gouging on ebay..

So haveing said that. Go ahead and attack me those who feel it necessary..

yeah, my friend went nuts. he's a money grubbing finance guy. i myself bought four though so i'm no saint either but at least i gave three to the three other dudes i went to the show with.

oh yeah, by the way, i'm looking for a black thermal in medium to trade my large for. just thought i'd throw that out there.

ha! that was you in the mask? i was the one who saw you at the entrance and said wrong even and you responded "wrestlemania." ha nice.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.
  • The show was amazing. I knew we were in for a special night, being that it was the leg closer, but never did I expect what we got!
The show opened the same way as Thursday, and I thought to myself, it worked once, why not try it again. The sound failure sucked. Killed the momentum for a moment. Glad they picked back up with Animal. On a side note, how shitty is CAA?? 2 straight shows, two sound failures. And the PA there leaves a lot to be desired. Horrible sound there. but I digress.....

Glad to hear a lot of rarities- Hard to Imagine, Don;t Gimmie No Lip, Rats. The Leash was dropped again in Jersey. Boom/ Mike solo dual was like MSG 2 in 2003. Awesome Black...The entire crowd was singing that. Gave me goosebumps. Ending encore 1 with Last Exit.

Encore 2 was awesome and rocking. Kinda figured Life Wasted would have to make an appearance at some point- glad to hear it inthe encore. Alive was great with the houselights coming on halfway through, leading into Ledbetter. Awesome stuff.

I preferred night 1's setlist, but night 2 just totally blew it away in terms of energy, and the crowd was insane. Special night overall.

No, If you had read correctly and did not pass judgement so quickly, you would have read that within that row a fan club member came by himself (ALONE) so there was an EMPTY seat in that ROW FOR THE ENTIRE SHOW. A perfect beautiful seat in the fourth row gone to waste BTW. I was not trying to take SOMEONE ELSE'S SEAT, I was filling in an EMPTY seat. Those two assholes only cared about seat numbers and since their seat numbers didnt match up they flipped out like I didn't hand in a quarterly financial report. BTW you must be like one of them huh or you don't take the time to read well before passing judgement and rushing to conclusions. You also having the nerve to insult me as selfish is completely unsupported by the fact alone that I did not mind that although I sold my fan EXTRA FAN CLUB SEAT FOR FACE TO 1 GIRL I DID NOT MIND HER BF JOINING HER... Sure it was a little less place but how could I seperate a couple wanting to enjoy a show together? I know if my wife didn't have strep she'd be the only person I'd want to sit next to at the show!

I'm sure there are two sides to this story. There's nothing worse at a concert than coming in to find leechers sitting at your seats so they can get closer to Eddie and show how big a fan they are. Nothing like selfish aholes crowding your space when you're trying to enjoy a show. That's all I'm saying.

I don't care if there was an empty seat there for you. There's plenty of space in the aisle that should be mine. Why can't I stand next to the photographers in front of the stage...there's nobody there! Your seat is YOUR seat. Stay there. When you all stand and crowd together, it's even more difficult for someone coming late to find their seat. I'm sure you really helped them out with that champ. Whenever I see shit like this, makes me want to work security on my part time so I can grab you chumps by your scruff and throw you to the curb.

AMAZING SHOW!!! Best out of the 5 I went to, no doubt. Hard to Imagine, Garden, Rats, In Hiding, Whipping, Inside Job, Why Go, Leaving Here, AWESOME SONGS!! The beginning was a little confusing since they played the same 3 songs to start the night before. This crowd was really into it after the first 3. All in all, amazing show. I am going to have PJ withdraw until the Gorge :D

"work security part time", "leechers" "champ"-- are you sure you were not sitting in section 8 row 4 seats 9,10 last night-- wearing your socking peeping Brooks Brother penny loafers with your stonewashed jeans and neatly tucked polo ??? If not you you are seriously a headcase... get help, and no Pearl Jam is not enough help for you

BTW I don't need to show Eddie how big a fan I am or show anyone else in the band I already know the kind of fan they appreciate and I am merely one of about a couple hundrerd thousand die-hards... I shouldn't even acknowledge this ridiculous comment you made, maybe it is you who would like to show Eddie how "big" you are ... I mean how big a fan you are... well, umm maybe both, I could see that, haha (insert Life Wasted laugh)

I was lucky to be in this show...Thanks to our hook up. I am so grateful!!!

The preset, Eddie with MMJ was was awesome...I hope We get a chance to hear that on some bootleg or if anyone has it please PM me.....

Well it started great and intense...what through us back was when at the beginning of Animal the sound went off...after that it was hard to hear Eddie and some of the instruments on the back ( I was in section 123 by stone side) but we made the best of it.

Highlights for me were In Hidding, SOLAT...The crowd were loud on these two for the first set. Porch was great with a battle of the instruments in it... Great drumming MATT.

For the second Encore....Last Kiss was loud one too. (On my section on the 16th row...People around me where sooo Wack...they were sitting or standing and not even singing or dancing. They were having long conversation during songs. My friend couldn't hear the singing B/c of some stupid bitches talking about the prom..For God sake....I wanted to curse them out to shut up or take it out in the hall way some of them looked like zoombies..lol
Oh well there were a few in my section jamming through the entire show. (including me and my friend)

Another highlight for me was when Stone started to sing Don't gimme no lip I went crazy...I was hungry for some Lost Dogs.... This show had lot's of love and jamming between the band...It was nice to hear the band appreciation for Eddie.

Boom was on fire last night!!!! that man is a Hawaiin God!!! lol

I had pride in listening to Leaving Here for us females in the show that night...I felt special!

What an awesome freaking way to end the show....with Mike on guitar...

I can't wait to get my bootlegs soon.
My last US show for this Tour....Next stop Italy....

See you my fellow PJ fans....
    :)

Better setlist IMO, with Immortality, Not for You, Footsteps, etc. The audio problem at the beginning of Animal last night was a huge momentum killer, and the sound was completely fucked from then on. Everyone in my section was complaining (sec. 122, Stone's side). Couldn't understand what Ed was saying at times, didn't hear Mike AT ALL for a few songs, etc. It seemed to gradually improve as the night wore on, or maybe I just got used to it. But it ruined a good chunk of the main set for me, and from then on I just felt like, okay, nothing will ever top Thursday so I'll just soak this in while I can, it's my last show for a while. Hard to Imagine was incredible, so was Black and Life Wasted. Other than that, too many songs I'd already heard on this tour (ESPECIALLY ALIVE, jeez give it a break).

But a "bad" PJ show is still 2+ hours I'd choose to spend over just about anything else in life, so it's all relative. Those of us who see a lot of shows have been spoiled by some amazing performances. I would put DC and E. Rutherford night 1 down as 2 of the best Concerts I've ever seen, period.

Another thing, the poster situation last night was a joke. IT'S ONE PER CUSTOMER, when will the band crack down on the idiot vendors? Once again the Ebay parasites are having a field day.

I think show 1 was awesome too...this show the sound was killed....
Show 1 was more intimate....the first encore was accoustic...which was welcome....I think both night are different...I guess depending on what mood I am in I'll decide which one...lol
but both shows something techinical happened and it did ruin the momentum but i got it back.

My friends sister had a single ticket, not sure what section, but she said that some guy in her section was drunk, fell down the stairs and broke his neck and was taken away on a stretcher. Apparently there were cops in the section questioning for possible witnesses from what she said.

Did anyone else see this/know how this person is doing?
  • wow. there is a lot of hostility in this thread. some of you folks need to calm down and get laid.

    that said...

this was the best show of the 10 i saw this leg, and in my top three favorite shows i've ever seen. i loved my seats, i loved the crowd energy, and the band... the band was having so much fun!

talking to fans out in the parking lot beforehand, expectations seemed to be running pretty high. pearl jam met those expectations head on and put on a brilliant show.

Shows are all different, and everyone has different preferences. If longer=better, fine, some people feel that way. The band is always "on." PJ always brings their A game, that's why we love them. Despite people's comments, I thought the crowd Thursday rocked too, although I personally was so into it that probably colors it. I think alot goes into why people say a show was the "best ever" and alot of it has to do with the overall experience. I was seeing this killer band Umphrey's McGee at the Nokia in NYC, pretty small place, I was close to the stage, and in heaven, they played this awesome set, and then during the encore some asshole threw a full beer can over the balcony and it nailed me right in the nose. Completely ruined my whole vibe and mood, and that great uplifting feeling I have when I leave a great concert was gone. How good people think a show was has an awful lot to do with how they're feeling, who they're with, where they sit, who sits near them - especially with PJ, who are just so consistently awesome no matter what else is going on. Shit, one of their most well known shows is referred to as the Ice Bowl!!

Is my setlist correct?? I just find it odd that they would open with the same 3 songs 2 nights in a row.

Isn't that what makes them the best live band? Everyone was trying to predict the opener, etc. and Pearl Jam throws a curve ball and plays the same 3 songs to open the show? People comment how they are so unpredictable and this tops them all! Totally unpredictable! No one would have guessed this!
  • toexplodetoexplode Posts: 1
Show would have been ten times better if it was played at MSG, but I understand that probabaly wasn't their choice. They did a good job with the setlist, but it wasn't over the top like many leg closers can be. Dirty Frank or Breath would have helped immensely. I felt the tech problems before Animal hurt the pace of the show, but PJ are just a professional and air-tight band so it didn't affect the show too much.

No Surrender was sung beautifully by ED before hand. He really does have the best singing voice of all time. They were emotional throughout the show and for good reason. Lukin and Whipping were the real highlights for me. Kind of was in the mood for Betterman and Daughter but overall this felt like a unique show where they played the songs they enjoyed playing most on the tour.

Also Porch, Alive, and Black will always be transcendent live. Like "Streets" is with U2, those songs always take off. Leash, Why Go, SOLAT, and Rats were all welcome additions to the show. Glad to see these songs are being used so well.

Pearl Jam is a truely a legendary band and a collective force of nature. Ending with the Star Spangled Banner and Ledbetter was beautiful. Hope they come back around somehow before the world tour is over.

i thought it was kinda bogus, but then the sound problem sort of cleared the slate. after the snafu with animal, ed sang love boat captain as if it were a set opener - "let the show begin." the crowd went nuts and the early missteps were forgiven.
