Is this the responsible gun owners thread. Or the white privilege thread? I get so confused. It’s almost like there is an underlying thread of white supremacy that ties everything together.

Based on the number of cops and the fact the already had their assault rifles out before they approached makes me assume they were responding to a call about a violent crime. In which case, assuming he just stabbed or shotn someone or armed robbery or something, their approach seems justified. Doesn’t matter if he’s homeless or mentally ill at that point if he’s already put lives at risk. But like I said before, I don’t know and am just speculating. If that wasn’t the case then their reaction was pretty ridiculous.
Good point. To show up with rifles drawn like that suggests that they were responding to something serious. But like you said, if they weren't, then it's pretty ridiculous.
Waving a BB gun around and at passing cars is the reason for the 911 calls
So there was the threat of a “less lethal round”. I guess the cops are justified and this guy should have complied...👅🥾
The article states it was a BB gun made to look like a 9mm. It was found in his lap because that’s where he dropped it as he pulled it out and was shot. I’m guessing if not landed in his lap they probably saw part of it. It was a “heavily populated area.” At what point are they justified? Wait until he kills 2 or 3 people to make sure it wasn’t real?
And yes, he should have complied. When you take a gun out and wave it around at people, probably a good idea to comply when cops show up. Don’t know why you would argue otherwise.

Well the cop that shot the guy in Atlanta has been charged with murder. I don't agree with the charge, but talk about the wrong time to be shooting an unarmed (with a gun anyway) black guy. Also, if he and his partner didn't suck at detaining someone, he wouldn't have found himself chasing a suspect that had his partner's taser.

Just saw a clip where the Atlanta DA referred to Brown as slightly intoxicated. If his definition of slightly intoxicated is passed out drunk in your car blocking traffic, I’d love to be at one of his parties.
According to a quick google search, Aggravated assault in Georgia Is : Aggravated assault, a felony in Georgia, is an assault that is committed:
-with the intent to rob, rape or murder
-with a deadly weapon or any object that can be or is used in a manner that results in serious bodily injury or strangulation
Seems like 2 weeks ago the DA thought a taser was pretty serious, now it doesn’t mean anything when you use it on a cop?
Maybe you should have watched the Atlanta DA’s press conference where he laid out the 11 charges, the reasons for them and the supporting evidence that they reviewed in order to bring the charges, citing GA law, police training manuals and directives issued before you accuse him of being a “complete idiot.” Regardless, it’ll be up to a jury to decide how many of the 11 charges the cop is guilty of.
You know who’s a complete idiot? The cop, at the very least, for kicking the victim after he shot him twice in the back as he was running away. But you know, death is the penalty for being 0.108 BAC intoxicated.

Not sure what that has to do with someone who is passed out drunk in a drive through, assaults 2 cops, grabs their taser and uses it in them and calling him slightly intoxicated, cordial, cooperative and jovial.
And he wasn’t shot for having a 0.108 BAC. I know it’s a matter of time before memes pop up and say if you’re black you get shot for going to a drive through. He was shot because he assaulted 2 cops, clearly over powered both, grabbed their taser and used it in them.
I’m not saying they did everything perfect, but for the DA to describe Brown as slightly intoxicated, cordial and jovial and put the death penalty on the table is ridiculous.
Thanks for sharing. I heard that but couldn’t find a clip. So ridiculous. According to that link several precincts are empty due to police walkouts in Atlanta. I heard last night that was the case but then the mayor announced there was more than normal sick call ins, but that they are staffed as normal. Uh huh. That’s what happens when you treat your cops this way and demand both be immediately fired and prosecuted.

The sad irony of this vilification of police is it's going to lead to MORE bad cops. Think about it, over the next 10-15 years, what good person that truly wants to help people is going to get into policing? They're already underpaid, and now they're the "enemy" of like half the country. And if good people that want to help people stop wanting the job, forces are going to be filled with a bunch of Derek Chauvins. And who will suffer the most from a country filled with officers like that? The black community of course.
Funny story re plastic guns that look like that. In Albuquerque walking home from a party a few years ago at about 12:30 am I had one of those pulled on me and stuck in my chest. I grabbed it instinctually. Heard it crack and knew it was plastic yanked it from dudes hand and threw it then ran after his asshole friend who stole my wallet. Retrieved wallet and called cops. They arrived 45 minutes later took my statement and said they couldn’t do anything about it even after they found the plastic gun which definitely would have had finger prints. Good thing cops were always in my neighborhood to keep things safe 🙄
So all the "bad cops" videos reminds me of shark attacks. They happen all the time but they hardly get reported until it's the latest buzz. Remember when the news was reporting about shark sightings every day?
The cop videos are all a buzz now too. It's the "in" thing to report on.
Something should be done but it's being sensationalized too.

I've had an apartment broken into once and a car broken into three times. Two different cities. In every instance, they have tried to talk me out of filing a report.

Again, had you watched the DA’s press conference, it would have been explained to you. For 47 minutes of prior interaction Brown had been as described. In your previous post you alluded to being so drunk he passed out as not being indicative of something. I posted his actual BAC as reported.
The death penalty is on the table as the range of penalty under GA law and not on the table because of the DA. The murder charge carries a penalty of 20 years up to the death penalty.

umm a story I read claimed the taser had been fired twice before it was taken by the victim. it would have been effective ONLY if he threw it at them...

That cop is an idiot. But please stop this nonsense about death for 0.108 BAC.... it was that, it was resisting arrest, it was taking a cops taser, it was running, and it was pointing a taser at a cop.
I personally still think police need to be trained differently. They knew who it was and had his car. They already had the BAC. Let him run away and get him later.
From the video, there’s a pretty wide range of reasonable opinions for what the charges should be. That’s where most people will end their research and assume they’ve got the case nailed without waiting for justice to be carried out.
Excessive force? A pretty strong argument could be made for that even when the perp has the taser and, with any critical thought whatsoever absolutely once the taser is spent. Several shots? OOF!!
At the very least the situation should highlight the need for better training. It’s glaringly obvious that the system failed both the officers and the criminal.

Fuck yeah I want to file a report!
And I did.
I did every time. The first time was my car and, if I'm remembering correctly, I insisted because I needed a police report for my insurance. As I thought about it after the fact, it really annoyed me - the reason is some combination of not wanting to do paperwork and/or keeping crime stats artificially low. Neither serves the public interest. Naturally I found it very aggravating when it happened each subsequent time.

But I don’t agree at all with this Atlanta shooting. The DA sounds like a complete idiot in is press conference. 2 weeks ago he charged 4 cops with aggravated assault for using a taser: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wsbtv.com/news/local/atlanta/attorney-says-da-rushed-charge-officers-involved-tasing-college-students/Y3RHMIZ2ZNCC7HA723UGEKQS54/%3foutputType=amp
