Another “responsible” gun owner paying the price, the ultimate one at that, for being a gun owner. How much do your odds increase of dying by a gun if you have guns in the house again?
At least in a retail store there’s some expectation of due diligence so that those who shouldn’t be able to legally purchase firearms might be stopped. This? That “check,” as insignificant as it might be goes right out the window. Give it a year and you’ll see a spike in firearm shootings and deaths, particularly of former domestic partners. Unless of course the NRA and repubes in Congress are successful in further eroding firearm related statistics gathering.
Yeah, there will almost certainly come a time in the not-that-distant future when pretty much everyone has a 3D printer in their homes .... Hopefully by then they will have figured out how to build 3D printers that simply will not print guns, and that can be worked into law. Like I mentioned before, one would think some kind of built-in software can be devised for this purpose and foil all but the proficient hackers.

No way these 3D firearms will endure more than a few rounds. I wouldn’t trust one.
I like all of the speculative non condemnation of these guns. Even if what you stated is true, they'll figure it out and improve them. Either way, two rounds is still two dead people more then zero rounds.

Exactly, and it seems that most aren't aware that many different materials can be used in 3D printing. It's not like they only make things out of weak plastic.

I also remember a time when Glocks were made fun of for being too "plastic". They seem to be doing pretty well in the killing department these days.

Also, you're not the target audience of these printers, yet. I'm sure more appealable options for you will come along, but ultimately they know who they need to cater these to and will follow suit with the ability to replicate classic assault rifles.

Lucky to live in a country where I don't have to think about 3D firearms being a big threat.
Are 3D printers or the internet banned where you live?
Of course not. He just lives in a country that doesn't suffer from a crazy gun culture.
Like anything else when it becomes first available it will be cool but I see people losing interest in it very quickly.
I mean, when you can get an AR15 with your happy meal... why the need to 3D print a gun.
Seriously, the only places I can see 3D printed guns bring an issue are places where it is difficult to get them otherwise.
I think you might be underestimating the appeal here, even when "real" guns are easy to get. It will likely be a hell of a lot cheaper to print them than buy them, it won't require the person to deal with any bureaucracy or anything, it's simply a novelty and actually fun to make your own, people will be able to alter them/"personalize" them, creativity will become a factor for hobbyists, and, of course, criminals and others who can't get a gun through legal channels will be all over it, especially if they make the ones that don't set off metal detectors. There are a ton of reasons why 3D printed guns will be an issue in places they are relatively easy to get "the old fashioned way".
