I considered driving over for a Looch today.
Taking the five year old to see Sonic at the movies, instead.
Something tells me The Looch would be better entertainment than Sonic will be, but gotta enjoy the time w/the little dude.

    Did the party go well?

We are lucky that the kid's birthday is in June so we can do a pool party and invite family over and grill up some meat.  In another year or two he will be old enough to have his "friends" party as.a pool party as well.  Much cheaper than the route we go now, but I'm not in favor of 20 five year olds in the pool and half of their parents not paying attention.
Party was nice. Thanks for asking. Just a couple real close friends and then family. Was a good time. The baby girl was awesome and had a blast. Food was a big time hit. A great day. May/June/July bdays are good. Doesn’t sound like a damn thing wrong with that set up

I feel like I’m more upset over a mascot that I should be....he looks like a fucking imposter though. Subtle changes, my ass. When it looks the same for your whole life then suddenly grows wings, gills, a bigger/different shade blue tale....it’s not the same dude. Eyebrows are fucked up too.

I’ve heard conflicting reports over who is to blame (one thing I saw said the Phils offered those jokers $20M?). Hopefully this is just a one off until they settle and then old school Phanatic parachutes into the stadium with Kite Man’s next of kin and murders this weirdo in gruesome fashion before a sellout crowd to leave no doubt. And the blood stains should not be washed off.

    Viva le’ Phanatic

Or maybe he encounters Gritty in a dark alley somewhere.
    This weekend we rock Portland

I don't even get the point of the "redesign." Why add blue to the tail and above the eyes? And is that the only change? I wouldn't have even known about this if not for this thread.

It's to try and prove that he has organically morphed into their own mascot over the years as opposed to the creators original version. The creators are alleging they somehow have the rights to renegotiate the deal they signed with the Phils after 35 years....which just so happens to be this summer. So to avoid paying these people the Phillies made the Phanatic look like a cheap Chinese knock off.

That’s lame. They made the greatest mascot of all-time. The franchise should appreciate them. Think of how much Phanatic merch has been sold.

Was listening to Jason Segel on Bill Simmons and they were talking David Foster Wallace a bit. This Is Water briefly came up.  Always worth an annual listen.

I'm happy for those who will find pleasure in this but I have no interest in going to the movies unless I am going to watch a movie.
(Not helped by the fact that I don't like either one of the two released songs.  (I don't mind the music to Superdog Sillylyrics))
Hope you enjoy if you go, Dave!

I don't really have much interest in this.  sitting around a movie theater listening to music doesn't excite me even with some visuals supposedly.  not my thing.  i do like the two new songs though.

bit concerned about the tour with the coronavirus. afraid some cities might pull the plug on big events.  heading to the Nashville show. would suck if got cancelled

I am very conflicted about all of this. Part of me feels like what it seems like you are feeling. The other part of me sees this administration as the worst possible collection of numbskulls we could ever imagine putting our faith in to deal with it. Cutting CDC funding, firing scientists, lying about everything etc etc etc. I think the numbers are a lot higher than what is being reported because they have barely started testing people. WHO came out and said the mortality rate was over 3%....the next day Trump says he has a "hunch" it's below 1%. That's really my concern--the fact that I don't have any faith or trust in the people at the highest level of our government to keep us safe.

Plus....my mother in law is battling lung cancer and my nephew has asplenia so their immune systems are fucked anyway. I'm not concerned with me getting it but, rather, me not realizing I have it and transferring it to them. Wife and I are supposed to go to Cabo in a few weeks too. Little concerned!

I think it is going to get pretty bad. It doesn’t seem like it’s really possible to contain. Basically takes two weeks to double.  Think about how fast it went from a city in China to the entire globe. I understand it’s not airborne but it clearly spreads insanely fast.

I do think the mortality rate is under 1% though. The number of positives is so much higher than we know. Like you though, my mother in law has health issues too so definitely at risk. And not on the health side, my mom is starting her timeline to retire, what’s going to happen to her money if this gets worse on the economy.

An article in the Atlantic from a week or so ago is basically predicting that 40-70% of people will get it. Obviously a massive range and said a ton of people won’t even know they have it, but it will be widespread

Obviously have no faith in the administration either. Gonna be an interesting few months. I don’t think it’s bad that companies are playing it safe.

I'm (trying) being (to be) incredibly optimistic about the whole thing.
