anyone who pledged for a PJ limited edition player, opens it and uses it for listening is nuts...
I initially was hesitant to spend the extra $100 to get a PJ chrome player since they are highly valuable, extremely rare and will be worth a lot more in the future. You're better off keeping it sealed in the wooden box and check the market in coming years. guarantee it will be worth a lot more than it's original price.
That's why I settled for a yellow player so I could get the most out of the Pono sound in Neil's quest to save music...

    Really?

    Fuck it, nevermind

When I wrote 'very good first impression' I was referring to the sound - I did not mean the delivery guy (although he seemed lovely also).

I realize this is going to sound absurd, but that Ed signature doesn't look right to me.

    Not at all absurd

A lot of the excitement I had in advance of receiving this item has been lost. The sigs all look wierd and the presentation in the end looks totally off. Compared to the first images the end product is visually a complete let down.

I'm sure I'm in the minority in this but for me this is a bit of a downer

I realize these were bought blind btw before the first images surfaced and we had no idea how they would look

But still, those images raised the bar big time ... And now its 'Meh'

I understand that it isn't what they had pictured before these were manufactured, but it's not like Ed's sig looks fake, it just looks like the older "E" that he used to sign:

Anyone else curious as to why it's only numbered to 495, but 500 were sold?
"There's a $10,000 bill in it for you."
"Oh yeah? Which president's on it?"
"Uh, all of them. They're having a party. Jimmy Carter's passed out on the couch."

Maybe somewhere between 5 and 9 purchases were canceled or rejected and so the entire 500 wasn't sold or made.

Betting it's because 5 payments fell through somehow.

They made an RHCP iPod? The only special one I remember was the U2 version.

It's weird that people are receiving these things, taking the time to post pictures and yet not a single comment on how they fucking sound.

Sitting in a box collecting dust does nothing for the company. I'd like to buy one but want to hear from people about quality.

Looks like Neil Young was forced to forge Eddie's signature before production took place.

Kidding of course... but yeah that looks nothing like the prototype picture. Better throw it on ebay! :)

Exactly. Suddenly my request for a review of the actual sound quality isn't so laughable, is it? I guess the wonderfully insightful "very good first impression" review is what we'll have to go with for now. And yes, I know I could search elsewhere for what others think of Pono's sound quality in general but as this is a Pearl Jam forum (which was so kindly pointed out to me earlier), I am sort of interested in, oh I don't know, maybe hearing someone's thoughts on the two Pearl Jam albums it came with...

All the reactions to these things are funnier and so much more cynical than I expected!

I wish I'd bought one now... i would have already reported how the fucking thing SOUNDS. I've skipped some pages, but has anyone actually tried listening to one yet?? Or are you all still too upset about what it looks like? ;):D

Yep, hanging out to hear how it sounds, other than "very good first impression".

Can someone who has one open it up, plug in some headphones, have a listen & let us know what the sound quality is like? Heck, even compare it to whatever other portable music player you have if possible!
