  • Some guy who was on Hannity yesterday called A&E anti-christian for taking Phil off the show.

    :fp:

Before I go on, I just want to say I was watching Hannity because I was bored and wanted to see what Fox News was complaining about now. (Because every time I turn it on they are bashing Obama some way or another. Sometimes they are correct but like 70% of the time its over stupid stuff that doesnt need to be complained about. And just to clarify, no I am not a Obama lover. Some of his policies I like and some I dont)

Back to the topic at hand:

Just because they took him off does not mean they are anti-christian. His views simply don't align with theirs exactly. Simple as that.

You are right, its not his controversy. He is fine with what he said and that is fine. It is his beliefs.

But in his statement he criticized people, which is valid, and people were upset and hurt by his statements, which is also valid. I guess the reason you are not butt hurt is because you just don't care about other people. There is not other explanation. I am happy he is a follower of God. Most of his beliefs are great, in my opinion. But for me the hating of gays is wrong and shouldn't be a Christian belief anymore. Many, many, many years ago slavery was justified by the Bible but has since been "outdated," which is what I think of in the case for the hating of gays. We live in a different world more open to all people; we are becoming a more kind world.

I am fine with him saying what he wanted, but if he thought he could say that without getting backlash then he is an ignorant fool. If you think people are dumb to be upset over this then you are too. He had every right to say what he said, and people have a right to complain about it. We are not complaining about his freedom of speech; we are stating OUR opinion of what we think of his opinion, which is also our freedom of speech.

    Wow.... :fp:

Republicans need to stop seeing this as an attack on freedom of speech. Everyone complaining about it is using freedom of speech too.

He had every right to say what he said, but in the process he criticized not just people, but people who probably watched the show and loved him and thought he was a perfect angel (I never watched the show so I dont know how he was on the show).

He got fired because A&E dont want their viewers to associate him with them. If they didn't fire him, lots of people would have complained and possibly could've hurt their reputation. That is business.

Saying "I don't agree with the gay thing" is a hateful, ignorant, bigoted attack. I don't understand why that is so hard to grasp.

I am fine with you saying you dont believe in the gay thing, that is your opinion. You said it in a better way than the duck dynasty guy said it. THAT is what is wrong with him. How he said it is the problem. Godfather, I have no problem with what you believe, but if you say it in an ignorant, critical way then it will get backlash. I still don't agree with your beliefs, and I am sure you dont share all mine, but as long as we are respectful of one another then no arguments will arise.

The reason Republicans are being bashed too on this because they are supporting the guy despite him saying it in an ignorant, hateful way.

I find it interesting that a Congressional candidate would dare use Rosa Parks' statement to back up the hate filled opinion of Robertson. Dig deeper into what Robertson said, and he said plenty against those of color.

  • The reason Republicans are being bashed too on this because they are supporting the guy despite him saying it in an ignorant, hateful way.

Which further illustrates the stereotype of a republican. Hateful, angry, intolerant. I don't really care what ANYone else feels about anything. Different strokes for different folks. But when you publicly display hate towards a specific group of people? Accept the consequences that go with that. And when I publicly display my freedom of speech, I'll accept my consequences. But I don't want the people backing Mr. Robertson to publicly tell me that my freedom of speech is not accepted because it doesn't align with republican opinion. That's the problem here. These people will scream freedom of speech as long as it favors their views.

Reading through this thread, a couple of random thoughts:

-A&E made a bad choice hiring this guy in the first place. What did they expect? Has anyone ever checked out his book? I've never watched the show but knowing the hiring choices of this show included bringing on this bigoted, hateful dude, I see no reason to bother checking it out.

    - The statement "I don't agree with the gay thing" does not make sense. It's like saying "I don't agree with the idea that someone could enjoy eating capers" or "I don't agree with listening to opera" or "I don't agree with being ambidextrous".

-The fact that Roberson has so many followers is yet again another reason for concern about the falling levels of intelligence in people (at least in this case, Americans), and the persistence of sexism, racism and bigotry in this society. I must have been very naive to once have thought we might become more enlightened and more aware, and more accepting and embracing of diversity- it seems just the opposite is happening. :( Please, tell me I'm wrong!

    A snippet of it:

"Robertson's defenders should read his comments again, because their defenses are off-point. If you're defending Robertson, here's what you're defending:

    1. Robertson thinks black Americans were treated just fine in the Jim Crow-era South, and that they were happy there. " I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."

    2. Robertson thinks the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor because they didn't believe in Jesus. "A ll you have to do is look at any society where there is no Jesus. I’ll give you four: Nazis, no Jesus. Look at their record. Uh, Shintos? They started this thing in Pearl Harbor. Any Jesus among them? None. Communists? None. Islamists? Zero. That’s eighty years of ideologies that have popped up where no Jesus was allowed among those four groups. Just look at the records as far as murder goes among those four groups."

    3. Robertson hates gay people. Robertson in 2010: " Women with women, men with men, they committed indecent acts with one another, and they received in themselves the due penalty for their perversions. They’re full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless. They invent ways of doing evil."

    *end of snippet*

If he said stuff about gays in 2010, how come people are now making a deal about it? :fp: Oh, America...

I never even heard of the guy in 2010, but that definitely would've caught my eye if I did.

ESPECIALLY when they wrap themselves in the bible, as if the bible in their hand is somehow supposed to make their statements easier for the rest of us to digest.

  • Before the liberals get too high and mighty in this thread, they should check out pictures of late term abortions that they support. Talk about barbaric.
this has nothing at all to do with abortion. not even close. this situation is a company punishing one of its employees for embarrassing the company. this is not a free speech issue because the constitution only protects you from the government throwing your ass in jail for what you say. it does not prevent a company from punishing you or firing you for what you say.

but since you brought up abortion, i will speak on behalf of all liberals when i say that we do not like abortion. we do not like the procedure. we do not like how it is done. we do not like the fact that a fetus dies as a result. it is a terrible, unfortunate, thing. but we support a woman's right to choose what happens within her own body. it is a rights issue. the government can not force a woman to carry a fetus to term. and that is why i will always fight for women's reproductive rights. if men could carry a baby, abortion would have never, ever, been illegal in the first place. anybody that thinks liberals "like" abortion is an idiot.

Crackerbarrel did an about-face two days after stating they were going to stop selling Duck Dynasty items.

Wal-mart is sold-out of all D.D. items. The Robertson family has a merchandise empire that is estimated by Forbes to be worth about $400million - and their deal with Walmart makes up around half of this.
