If you can be fired for being gay... you can get suspended for embarrassing your employer and being a sexist, racist, homophobic asshole.

    Sucks, doesn't it?

Oh Prince, you know I love you. Agree with you 100%.
  • I think those, like Sarah Palin, who is calling this whole thing an attack on Free Speech is dumb, I'm sorry.

He exercised his right to say what he believes, and the people he offended have the right to call him an asshole.

    Simple as that.

You can't expect to say anything you want without possible backlash.
    ~Carter~

You can spend your time alone, redigesting past regrets, oh
or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who can't forgive yourself, oh
makes much more sense to live in the present tense

Well, it is an attack on free speech. Except this is case one is suffering from the use of that speech. He has the right to speak his mind, even if he says something dumb, and his employer has the right to do what they did.

In the end it's another non-issue, and another non-issue that if the groups on BOTH sides of this debate used similar energy to change important issues, that I've previously mentioned, and then we might really improve society.

This is the same thing that if I owned a private business and I refused service to someone based on the color of their skin, I'd have to expect to suffer some consequences. It is capitalism and a functioning market in action.

It's like the cake makers in Colorado, they absolutely have the right to deny making a cake for anyone, no matter what. But then these people in return have the right to protest them and picket them into going out of business.

I am VERY disturbed that a judge ordered them to bake the cake, that is a clear violation of the First Amendment.

A&E are hypocrites. They knew what his views were then act shocked. Half the shows they air exploit rednecks that most likely share similar views

No hair off Duck Commanders back on this. They own a multi-million dollar business that can't be killed off by politically correct distributors.

A&E lost by far their highest rated program and are left with a bunch of underperforming shows. So who is the real loser?

In that statement he called out a lot more people than just gay people. I guess we should all be upset, huh? Maybe they got rid of him for calling out slanderers.

But I'm not. I support his right to say those things and I support the show's right to fire him for whatever reason it wants.

  • Waaa, Waaa, Waaa! Poor guy said what he thought and got in trouble. Sure glad I'm not a super star or followed by the press. Nothing like saying what you think to get rid of people who are hanging on and root out your real friends.

The poison from the poison stream caught up to you ELEVEN years ago and you floated out of here. Sept. 14, 08

Considering they wrapped up shooting for season 4 which premiers 1/15/14, I'm under the assumption that these are PR moves. It's like suspending someone from school two weeks after finals are finished. And there will be plenty of time for people to forgive and forget by the time season 5 filming starts.

If A&E is serious, they would cancel next season where Phil will star in every episode. But they won't because they will lose a ton of money. It is the highest rated cable show in history after all.

  • Too much fuss from Americans either supporting or opposing this guy. This reality TV celeb has ZERO impact on our lives and no one should let him have an impact on their lives. If you're gay, don't let a CELEBRITY bother you. If you're an anti-gay Christian, why support a celebrity? Why run to his aid? Why all the fuss because he was rightfully suspended by his employer? What has he done for you? NOTHING!
  • People really care about reality TV now, don't they? What's all the hub-bub about? A redneck couldn't keep his mouth shut? Well, then, you've got to wonder who the dummy here is: the reality "star", the media company A&E for taking a drastic move and getting more PR, or the viewer who gives a shit about this shit. My vote is for the dumb-ass viewer! Kill your TV and get a life!

Exactly!!! As the Chili Peppers once said, "Throw away you television."

LOL!!! so friggin what ! I agree with PR but in this ..politicaly correct media world you can't experess your opinion with out getting shit from someone but on the same media outlet you can use words like bitch, damn and other slang cuss words but soon as you give your opinion on homo's your fired ?

it seems to me most of the shows viewers are backing PR's opinion but in the end it is what it is right ?

Well, of course most of the shows viewers are going to back duck character. A HUGE majority of people that watch that show on the reg are rednecks. I live in a rural area and my facebook news feed is polluted with red necks backing this guy. Who gives enough shit to support or oppose this guys opinion is beyond me.

it just occurd to that this show is not live...isn't there a editing process before it's aired ? seems to me that Phil is not the only one here with his opinion otherwise it would have ended up on the cutting room floor right ?

Phil didn't make those comments on anything that was aired on A&E, unless he did at one time or another and it ended up on the A&E cutting room floor. If that ever happened by chance, who cares what A&E decided to do, they're the boss and Phil's freedom of speech doesn't apply in their work place. What we do know is he voiced his opinion through GQ and A&E has no control on what they decide to publish.

Just read this show is something like the highest rated cable show ever, or something along those lines. Only in America. Thankfully, I have never seen a minute of these morons.

Yeah, there probably is. A&E has the final say in the editing process I assume.. fuck it all though... quack quack
  • I very much hope the family follows through on their (somewhat) empty threat to not do the show anymore. They like money and attention so I can't see them actually doing it, I expect we'll see the standard "apology" in another week or two.

But what I love is hiding behind religion, yet I can guarantee you they've worked Sundays doing this show, of course breaking God's law that should not be working on the Sabbath. Money is most people's true God.
