I don't have tv so I've never seen the show, my only comment is that I find it extremely disturbing that this is what it takes to get people in an uproar. A comment from a reality tv guy.

Don't let the real stuff like NDAA, the federal reserve, NSA, patriot act, TSA, politicians not upholding their oaths, runaway spending, and reckless monetary policy bother you. That stuff would make people actually think, and I firmly believe most people want to be dumb.
Just brings to the forefront how ignorant a large segment of population is towards people that aren't like them. In 20 years we will look back at this and :fp: These folks are dying out and their kids are getting more balanced info.

Too much fuss from Americans either supporting or opposing this guy. This reality TV celeb has ZERO impact on our lives and no one should let him have an impact on their lives. If you're gay, don't let a CELEBRITY bother you. If you're an anti-gay Christian, why support a celebrity? Why run to his aid? Why all the fuss because he was rightfully suspended by his employer? What has he done for you? NOTHING!
If your an Anti gay Christian. Look in the mirror or better yet WWJD? It's not a choice. If you think otherwise your dillusional and even if it were who freakin cares how you get your kicks.

Agreed. I saw this story - and then that there were contending petitions in support of the guy and in support of the network - and couldn't believe it.

While I think discussions about minority rights, the role of religion, intolerance, speech, censorship etc are all vitally important to a healthy democracy, it's really, really, really sad that people only seem to care about those topics when they involve an apparently beloved reality TV star.

I think its complete opposite. The AMT has more open minded souls than general population in us.

So let's just sweep it under the rug. So what it's a reality star. Yeah never watched and won't but good to have debate regardless of how it comes up. This is how many Americans think and it's shameful.

it's possible, but most are bigots.

Absolutely not. Come to my church in LA - it's Episcopal, progressive, not a bigot in the bunch. The rector is gay, the congregation is racially mixed, there are lots of families - some gay, some not. It makes me crazy that the perception is if you're "Christian" you must be a member of the religious right.

That's a really good question. I found the "blacks were happier in the Jim Crow days" really offensive - how could somebody think that's not a bigoted thing to say?

biggoted statement ? along with a few others that use the word "redneck" in a unfriendly way..but if one was to use the word "fag" insted of "gay" or "homosexual" it would be concidered biggoted right ? so where is the line drawn ?

I think those, like Sarah Palin, who is calling this whole thing an attack on Free Speech is dumb, I'm sorry.

He exercised his right to say what he believes, and the people he offended have the right to call him an asshole.

    Simple as that.

You can't expect to say anything you want without possible backlash.

Well, it is an attack on free speech. Except this is case one is suffering from the use of that speech. He has the right to speak his mind, even if he says something dumb, and his employer has the right to do what they did.

In the end it's another non-issue, and another non-issue that if the groups on BOTH sides of this debate used similar energy to change important issues, that I've previously mentioned, and then we might really improve society.

It is not an attack on free speech. He said what he said, and in his statement he criticized some people, which he can freely say. And as it so happens, his criticism pissed off not just the ones he criticized, but he pissed off a bunch of viewers who thought he was a nice man or whatever. I don't watch the show so I don't know how he acts on the show, but either way he should've known that the media, as well as viewers, would react to his statements.

You pretty much described where the line is drawn. Slurs against gays and lesbians aren't accepted by many people because of the history of discrimination and intolerance toward that group.

This guy is trash. I've never watched an episode of his show, never will. Yet another asshole hiding his ignorance and bigotry behind the all mighty Jesus. Plus, the douche bags on fox news keep saying he was suspended for quoting scripture. Please, just go away.
