I think "Shattered" came from a fundraiser for Epidermolysis Bullosa. Both Eddie and the Mrs. are very involved with finding a cure for EB and healeb.org is sponsored by the Vitalogy Foundation. It's a different choice for a holiday single, but considering it was for a worthy cause, that's cool!
The "99" song is evidently very well known by everyone but me. At least I have heard of Jay-Z, even though I don't know anything about his music. God I'm old! :(
I wish a guy like Eddie, would like me.
  • very diappointing, what the hell was i listening to

Well that two-track download was a complete letdown - one listen for each track followed by a quick deleting of both tracks. Hopefully, better singles will be released in the future. Jay Z - c'mon, surely there's other musicians out there to collaborate with that don't spew derogatory lyrics and are much less interested in self-aggrandizement. 'Back to enjoying the Lightning Bolt album. 'Safe Holiday season to everyone.

You are aware that 99 problems is not about a woman right?

I've accepted that most people here lump him in with 95% of the other shit rap music of today. To call Jay-Z shit is the exact same as calling PJ shit. You don't have to like him...I get that, but to give him no respect is mind-boggling. I really don't like the Rolling Stones but I have so much respect for them it's crazy. Just not my thing.

I don't think it's necessarily that people have to "get with the times". I'm 23 and I can't stand Jay Z/any of his "music" and I have a lot of friends my age who feel the same way.

63 is correct though, there is no need to put down somebody, i was just using sarcasm :corn:
  • Anyone who hates the single and doesn't want the vinyl, PM me if you feel like giving a nice present to a fellow PJ fan :D I would take one in a second!

I really don't get the negativity surrounding the Jay Z collaboration. I mean, I get that this is a rock band's forum but surely people are aware that there are other forms of music out there? There was nothing like this kind of reaction when PJ did a song with Cypress Hill over 20 years ago. We seem to be going backwards.

It's fine if you don't like Jay Z's music, that's your opinion and of course we're all entitled to one. But there's no need to attack him or the band over this. There are literally millions of people that have never heard of, or don't like, Pearl Jam's music. That doesn't make them or their musical taste any less valid than someone on here.

Jay Z is often listed near the top of the "most influential...", "greatest hip hop artists...", "top entrepreneur..." etc lists. I'm sure PJ were honoured that he would ask them to play at his festival and even more so that he would want to play on a track with them.

Jay Z is shit. If you like him that's 1 of your 99 problems. His album "Yeezus" is God awful! :o This is the worst Xmas single by far. Figures its on time :fp:
  • haha - yeezus is by Kayne West

People hate Pearl Jam too - just not here.
the holiday single is fun and refreshing. (imo)
No matter what they do someone is going to be upset.

it could always be worse .... we could have put all our eggs in the Nirvana basket.
  • Shattered is god awful. I don't think I've heard anything worse. that is just beyond shit. oh my god.

  • should have been
side A: WMA from the Made In America show
    side B: 99 Problems
  • It was interesting to hear the 99-problems collaboration but would have been better with WMA too....
I can't see myself listening to 'Shattered' again....this is a Pearl Jam Fanclub single with no Pearl Jam music on it (except a WMA bassline) and no vocals from Ed except for backing on part of one track on which no other member of the band plays.....hmmmm, definitely not my favourite fanclub single.

  • i think it's pretty good. a collaboration and a joke. who knows what could be planned for a 'made in america' release. maybe there were issues with including the full performance, or it was held back for some other reason.
i have witnessed some performances. i have soaked up a lot of memories.

This might be the first record I eBay listened to the MP3 a couple of times and didn't care for either song.
