Yes, they have sucked hard. But they don't have to! Please pearl jam, make this right next year!

i said the same thing....3yrs ago!!!

And by the way...where has my "*Limited Edition Membership Item – Something new each year!" been?

It's not even about Eddie missing from the mic. The '97 single was Michael Stipe singing on one side and Jack Irons on the other and that's one of my favs.

Jeanne Tripplehorn. She's an actress. Starred in Basic Instinct, The Firm, Waterworld, Criminal Minds, etc.

Never seen any of those movies. But i'll take everyone's word
    My butt itches!
  • No Jeremy was a surprise one even tho I heard it on bootleg many years ago... and it was a great 10 inch record released by the band :D

I changed my membership to Digital two years ago and it's one of the best things I've ever done.

Ed's guitar playing and the "shadoobies" are cute but Tripplehorn's part is embarrassing

So much thank you. I typically roll with the punches when it comes to x-mas singles but this one, hmmm. I would've gladly paid $40 to ensure they didn't release this. Oh well. Maybe someday we'll look back and see the joke.
  • Still a fine looking lass at the age of 50 ;)

I think that's an older picture. When I watched the video I thought she looked pretty old compared to how I remembered her. Of course, not as old as most 50 year olds... But just different.

  • I think to not appreciate 99 Problems as the single is to take for granted all the official bootlegs. There's a sense of entitlement people seem to have for every live recording and they tend to want new studio recordings for stuff like the Xmas singles. Long gone are the days of stuff like "Smile" LIVE in 1996 meaning anything to fans.

Uploading a video on the band's youtube channel is cool. It's cool. It's a good, fun performance. It just, to me, doesn't belong on this 2013 single. And it is a little Seth McFarlaneish of Eddie to think "alright, the majority of my fans will hate this..but I THINK IT'S FUNNY so it's coming out."

To quote Tenacious D... "That's True..."

    "That's also true."

I remember getting that live Smile in 96... Wow, a live version of a song, how cool! We are spoiled. Even when one show doesn't come out, like MIA (ok, more than one, PJ20, Wrigley, etc) everyone complains about it. Which is even more reason to give us a song we might actually LIKE and/or APPRECIATE for the once a year fan club single... Instead of a joke at a private fund raiser. Yah it's kinda cute and funny, but give me a real song. Give me Jingle Bells 2 if you want, something...

What's next year's Xmas single gonna be? A selection from his wife's "accidental" $1 million payday concert for Muammar Gaddafi??

    This doesn't make any sense.
  • Just downloaded the subscription 2013 single and how long was it there? :D

99 Problems is a very strange choice for the A-Side. Side-B rocks Shattered... Eddie's acoustic guitar playing is fantastic and along with Jeanne Tripplehorn's (Julie Andrews) stunning vocals. Personally I think this is one of the best duets I have heard in a long time. Saw the video later on and Jeanne Tripplehorn is still a fine looking lass for her age :D

I don't think these singles have always done that. I don't think either of these songs are throwaways like a Ramblings would be. .
    About Ramblings:

    A. Back in the day before things were so accessible Ramblings were cool little things.

    2. Ramblings were B sides to actual songs played by Pearl Jam, so only half the Christmas single was a novelty or throwaway. As I stated prior had either of these 2 songs been the B side and a PJ performance of any kind been the A side, there would not have been much hue and cry, but they basically gave us 2 B side throwaways in one package which is pretty uncool.
    This weekend we rock Portland

    she is indeed.

but this is the type of thing you release for free, or honestly, not at all. something you play at a house party at 4am when only a few stragglers are left to do something fun.

There are good songs with Ed on backing vocals out there. Treat yourself this holiday season and pretend this is the holiday single.

Yeah, but that's sellable. Basically, you just cleverly (intentionally or not) pointed out the problem with this year's single. They basically "gave" (not really b/c it was paid for) us something nobody else on earth would dream of paying for. Yeah, it's nice to have the exclusivity. But, what did we do to them to subject us to this on vinyl?
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

It's really nice to close out the year once again proving how entitled this fanbase is.

Your type of comment in regards to this club always irritates me.

It's not an entitlement if you pay for it. If you're unhappy with goods you pay for, you should voice your disapproval.

But it's not like you know hat you are getting. It's supposed to be a one off special item.

That's fine if you don't like it, and to say so, but the outrage over not liking it is silly. Toss it on a pile, move on.

So it is entitlement or it's not?

You're allowed to voice your opinion or not?

    What was your point again?

That people should just be grateful that this band does anything at all for their fans.

Raeding these forums, you get the sense this fanclub can do nothing right, ever.

Like this quote. You make it sound like Pearl Jam and this 7" murdered your family. Its fine if you don't like it, buts not like they cut this thing and said "We really hope this ruins peoples holidays"

Being "outraged" is silly. Being disappointed is not.
