I can understand not "getting" a band or performer, but I think it's important to respect that we're all music fans, regardless of how we discovered our love for music. We're shaped by different life events and influences.
For instance, U2 is my favorite band, primarily because they were my first musical obsession in the 1980s and their music probably saved me from slitting my wrists as a troubled teen in a troubled home.
"Bad" is my anthem.
Springsteen has always helped stir pride in my blue collar roots. I can relate to his lyrics.
I think Radiohead are brilliant. Arcade Fire and Green Day are two of my favorite bands, primarily because their music gives me something connecting me to my teenage daughters -- both huge fans. I've taken my oldest daughter to two Arcade Fire shows. I can honestly say they are the best live band today.
The National is also a band that has grown on me in recent years.
I'm not a big fan of DMB, Tool, the Dead, Mudhoney or Nickelback. But I'd never say I hate them, primarily because they have given something to their fans, many of them close friends. I understand that relationship and don't want to disrespect it with hyperbole.
We're all music fans here.My Pearl Jam Road: 10/22/90 Seattle | 12/22/90 Seattle, Moore Theater | 9/29/92 Seattle, Magnusson Park, Drop in the Park | 9/5/93 The Gorge, with Neil Young and Blind Melon | 7/20/06 Portland, Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall with Sleater-Kinney | 7/22/06 The Gorge, 10/21/06 Mountain View, Shoreline Ampitheatre, Bridge School Benefit | 9/21/09 Seattle | 9/22/09 Seattle | 9/26/09 Portland, OR | 7/14/2011 Eddie Vedder, Portland, OR | 11/29/13 Portland, OR0 -

"Anything involving Sting" I would wholeheartedly support...apart from the 1st 2 Police albums...as far as punk/white reggae goes, unbeatable. Outlandos d'Amour and Regatta de Blanc are two of the greatest albums ever and I will defend them to my dying breath...phew...glad I got that off my chest :fp:0 -

Radiohead. I never really gave them that much of a chance, but every song I have heard bores me.
The Boss. I really, really want to like him, and respect him as a musician... but I have been to a show and it was slightly boring... and I cant really get into most of the songs. Live, way too many people on stage. Steve Van Zandt also looks awkward post-Sopranos.
Jam Bands.
*- I dont "hate" these things. I respect them and realize they have monster, followings full of respectable people with great taste... I just dont get it.0 -

and so many bands mentioned on here I've never even heard a song of:

and I have to say I'm utterly shocked that anyone would say Soundgarden. And no, them being friends with PJ has nothing to do with it. SG and PJ sound nothing alike, but at the same time, I find it odd that someone could love one and not even like the other.
Alright, since I was one of the folks that listed Soundgarden, I'll ask.... if it's not their association and we all agree they sound nothing alike, why would it be shocking to like one and not the other? What links them anymore than any other two bands from similar times/roots?
absolutely, you make a great point. I honestly can't say. I just don't know many/any people who like one and not the other. It's really nothing more than that.Gimli 1993

Settle down, sport. It's only my taste in music and I'm not trying to force it on anyone. If you like Robert Plant, congrats. I'm sure you dislike certain bands that I like but I'm not going to get butt-hurt over it
