This should be over soon. I hope all the furloughed government workers have been enjoying their soon to be paid vacations.

Sure they will get back pay, but to attribute this as a "paid vacation" is not fair. These folks have bills that are due NOW, not whenever they get paid back from the shutdown. I work for the government and I travel like crazy and it's all on my own dime until I get reimbursed...4 months later at the earliest.
Ok. Paid fiasco it is. :geek:

As much as I hate to see the parks shut down I can't help but wonder how nice an peaceful a lot of those places must be right now. A sort of wild life holiday.

Yep...if i lived close to one ... I would be there.

Just read that there should be far less taxes taken out next payroll. Seems logical.

OMG- imagine hiking into Yosemite with the place shut down and no one there. I'd be like John Muir II.

    Oh man, yeah!

And Arches National Park! That place is so overrun these days that with no one there I'd think I'd of died and gone to heaven.

Well, it's become apparant that Boehner had no backup plan heading into this standoff. Sort of like when Walter filled the briefcase full of his dirty undies and took off for the exchange with an uzi.

The only good light at the end of the tunnel is that this fiasco exposes the neocons and runs them out of office leaving a more centrest GOP ... wishful thinking

the thing is, Faux News has been reporting for days that it's all Obama's and the Dems fault. So all those brainwashed republicans will never realize that their own party has been exposed.

Make no mistake It's both sides fault Don't let the msnbc crowd convince you otherwise. Equal responsibility regardless of what either side says.

How is imploding the government over the ACA which was democratically passed, signed by the Prez and upheld by the supreme court equal share fault to the dems?

this is madness by the gop who are crapping all over the constitution that they pretend to hold in such high regard.

Is there responsibility on both sides? Yes. Is there equal responsibility on both sides? Not even close.

Mother Nature has been deemed non essential by the US Government. How will the marmots ever survive without uncle sammy? Did any of our elected leaders consider the marmots?

Cause it's the new Mother Nature taking over
It's the new splendid lady come to call
It's the new Mother Nature taking over
    She's gettin' us all

(always has, always will ;) )
  • Ya know what I want to see shut down? The US Mail. Talk about a riot taking over the country, and that's what we need to happen to get anywhere. Unfortunately the politicians know this and keep the essentials essential.

They removed WWII vets from a rally but are allowing an illegal immigration rally at the National Mall.

The Mall is not and never has been closed as a result of the shutdown. Only the memorials have been. The WWII Memorial is what the veterans were initially prevented from visiting. There was no rally of any kind. Don't let the facts get in your way though.

There's no justifiable reason in preventing those vets from visiting that Memorial.

The government is shut down. What did you think was going to happen? That all government buildings, including memorials, were going to remain open? Hilarious that the people who are most in favor of the shut down are the most upset when things actually shut down.

Exactly. I think they thought it was going to be a government shut down of things about the government I don't like.

Head Start to stay open thanks to private money...

    http://www.theatlantic.com/education/ar ... ey/280361/

One of the many casualties of the government shutdown has been Head Start, the U.S. Department of Health and Human services program that provides early childhood education services to low-income families. As of Friday, five Head Start chapters across the country had closed, affecting more than 5,000 children.

Today, the John and Laura Arnold Foundation--founded John Arnold, a former hedge-fund manager who first made his fortune working for Enron--announced it would donate $10 million to ensure Head Start programs stay open during the shutdown.

Upset? If I wanted to visit any site like this that was mostly privately funded, I would. If I were scheduled to camp in a national park, I would. Barack Obama doesn't own that property, the taxpayers do.

The only thing I'm upset about is that the shutdown isn't larger.

And when you fell and hurt yourself would you sue the government? Many would, hence the closures. The shutdown forced real things to shutdown. Crazy idea I know.

So much ranting about the size of the government but constant blame for just one guy. The government doesn't sound like it is too big if only one guy is responsible for this mess.

Both sides are responsible because of years of reckless spending and running up out of control debt. However these closures are directly ordered by the Obama administration. And no I wouldn't sue, I'm perfectly capable at understanding my own risks.

The whole thing is a joke. The Amber Alert website was shutdown but Michelle's nutrition website that she indirectly promotes GMO's remained open. It's a joke.

Yes, the Obama administration. Also known as the Executive Branch. Again, when the government shuts down, real things shut down.

I wouldn't imagine you would sue. But we live in a ridiculously litigious society. Plenty of knuckleheads would. If there is no money to pay staff for proper maintenance, security, sanitation, etc. then these public places need to close. None of this should be a surprise to those who pushed for the shut down in the first place.
