The Mall is not and never has been closed as a result of the shutdown. Only the memorials have been. The WWII Memorial is what the veterans were initially prevented from visiting. There was no rally of any kind. Don't let the facts get in your way though.___________________________________________

The government is shut down. What did you think was going to happen? That all government buildings, including memorials, were going to remain open? Hilarious that the people who are most in favor of the shut down are the most upset when things actually shut down.___________________________________________

Exactly. I think they thought it was going to be a government shut down of things about the government I don't like.0 -
Head Start to stay open thanks to private money...
http://www.theatlantic.com/education/ar ... ey/280361/
One of the many casualties of the government shutdown has been Head Start, the U.S. Department of Health and Human services program that provides early childhood education services to low-income families. As of Friday, five Head Start chapters across the country had closed, affecting more than 5,000 children.
Today, the John and Laura Arnold Foundation--founded John Arnold, a former hedge-fund manager who first made his fortune working for Enron--announced it would donate $10 million to ensure Head Start programs stay open during the shutdown.___________________________________________

Upset? If I wanted to visit any site like this that was mostly privately funded, I would. If I were scheduled to camp in a national park, I would. Barack Obama doesn't own that property, the taxpayers do.
The only thing I'm upset about is that the shutdown isn't larger.0 -

And when you fell and hurt yourself would you sue the government? Many would, hence the closures. The shutdown forced real things to shutdown. Crazy idea I know.
So much ranting about the size of the government but constant blame for just one guy. The government doesn't sound like it is too big if only one guy is responsible for this mess.___________________________________________

Posts: 9,487Both sides are responsible because of years of reckless spending and running up out of control debt. However these closures are directly ordered by the Obama administration. And no I wouldn't sue, I'm perfectly capable at understanding my own risks.
The whole thing is a joke. The Amber Alert website was shutdown but Michelle's nutrition website that she indirectly promotes GMO's remained open. It's a joke.0 -

Yes, the Obama administration. Also known as the Executive Branch. Again, when the government shuts down, real things shut down.
I wouldn't imagine you would sue. But we live in a ridiculously litigious society. Plenty of knuckleheads would. If there is no money to pay staff for proper maintenance, security, sanitation, etc. then these public places need to close. None of this should be a surprise to those who pushed for the shut down in the first place.___________________________________________

Yikes: "The Air Force had 15 C-27Js stationed at Guard bases and another two at Waco, Texas, at a L-3 Communications plant. Four more are on the books to be built by Alenia Aermacchi in Italy and sent to the U.S. in fiscal year 2013. Those newly built aircraft were scheduled to be sent directly to the boneyard.
The Air Force spent about $1.6 billion to purchase the 21 aircraft. Soon after the first C-27Js arrived in Afghanistan in 2011 to start resupplying deployed Army units, the Air Force said it could no longer afford the luxury of the aircraft."

Three weeks ago there was not a government shutdown. That faux conservatives in and out of congress are somehow surprised that government run buildings and attractions actually shut down during a government shut down tells you all you need to know about the decision makers on that side of the aisle. It is ridiculous that the Vets were initially turned away but this whole episode is ridiculous.___________________________________________

I'm really sick of conservatives exploiting war vets as heart-stringy emotional weapons.
So what if they can't go see a monument or a rock. Big fucking deal.
There are children not getting cancer care, there are shipments of meat not being inspected that could kill people who eat it and it's not going to be long before eColi gets into the water and we all die.
Your entire life savings is about to become worthless and so is your house.
But MAN... we're all a twitter than disabled vets can't go to monuments and look at monuments.0
