who am i kidding..Truth is rockin out.

Hope we get to have some PJ fun this year. *hint* *hint*

Hi lanners, well night one was a blast. I'm at a internet joint which ckloses in 15 mins., so i'll keep this short. I'll have more of a "report" sometime later. OK, to start off with, Toronto crowds suck. Too many poseurs, too many people with the smug-I'm-with-the-band attitude. I wanna say: guess what you bunch of highfulatin, sanctimonious fucks, Halifax, Calgary and Winnipeg kicked your fucking ass last tour. So shut the fuck up and be glad you have 5 million people in your midst or PJ wouldn't be here.

Get to my seats, I got a Haligonian beside me and a Caper in front of me. Ya, it was good show ! Better than the last T.O. show anyways. They played 6 or 7 from the new album. Did not play Parachutes or Army ZReserve, the one I really wanted to hera. Sounded OK, but not great. Crowd didn't really freak out on 'em, thats' for sure. Did Come back whcich they said was a "first". Eddie was pretty animated. he did not do a pre-thingy.

My Morning Jacket.........ho fucking hum. Did one catchy steel guitar tune that was OK, otherwise, where's Sleater-Kinney when ya need 'em ?!

The sign - had a sign made, buts thats whole other story ! Didn't really get to use it much as, believe it or not, my seats(10C @ 345 ***) were still kinda far away !! Tomorrow's another day. the down-east peeps got a big kick outta the sign. Tried to use it at the very end of the concert but it was tough goin'.

PJ played Not For you, and can i just say that Not For You in halifax blew it away. For real. I wouldn't lie to you, I am the Truthmonger after all. The halifax version kicked ass compared to this. That's how all things will be judged hencefroth - rated on the Halifax scale.

Present tense was cool. Crowd into it. what else ?..... closed with RITFW and then YL. Odd choice i thought. have to go. Have more later.

You are probably the first person i've ever asked to "leave a detailed report" and actually got one. short or not, it was a great report and i'm so happy someone listened to me for once!

    can't wait for report #2.

Pearl Jam was the number 1 album in Halifax and St John's...AHEAD of Tool!

Shows where the true fans reside ;-)
  • :DThat's awsome!!! Thanks for posting that, so where did you find the record sales, I did a search the other day and I couldn't find anything...

If you go to the Canoe site...they have the charts there and then broken down by city. I believe we had the only 2 cities with PJ in the lead.

I just spent the last 30 mins. or so typing out a fairly long description, and then accidentally ruined it by trying to go to another page ! Too tired to do thisd again. But I will say that the second show was absolutely fantastic, and kicked the snot outta night one. The crowd, the setlist, the numerous improvs, the atmosphere - everything just fucking rocked. By far, the best of the three I've been to - all in Hogtown. Sorry Lanners, I'm so pissed off but I just can't type all this shit out again.

    A few highlights:

Numerous Toronto improv's by Eddie about Toronto. he would just go off on these loose singing tangents about T.O.. It happened a few times. In fact, he went off on many improv's during the night.

Fucking Up absolutely killed. Blown away.

Did this thing with Cinnamon Girl where Eddie said: don't worry, let's do this thing and we''ll delete it from the boot !!! "It'll just be for the people at the concert". People sang along like crazy. He ended up doing all kinds of unusaual stuff all night.

Eddie saw some one with a Brazilian flag in the back. He also noticed many Canadian flags at the same time, and said that "perhaps you two should get married" - meaning Brazil and Canada, b/c I'm assuming he thought we are likeminded somehow. Funny moment.

Eddie doing Beast of Burden bit while YL was closing. Crowd went nuts and was singing along - hard.

Can't say enough about the crowd - it never stopped. Night 1 was tame compared to it.

Eddie chants were going on all night. B4 the show, during the show, in the foyers, fucking everywhere !

Drummer from Alice in Chains was there filming a happy birthday thing - so Eddie got the crowd to wish this person in Portugal a HB, when it wouyld be shown to him/her 2 days later.

Eddie announced that we dont' play this one often, that turned out to be one of the ones done in Halifax !! It was done in Hfx. at the beginning of the first encore. (Lowlight ?)

Overall, just a very festive time. Much more relaxed than night one, where there seemed to be a lot of nervous energy. Too much to talk about, esp. with my typing skills. What a night.

i hate to say this but i'm not going to lie (i'm not very good at lying)...i'm jealous as hell.

i'm happy for you, very happy, but i'm going to be selfish and say that i wish i would have been there too.

    glad you had fun!

Now you know how I feel about Halifax. And just for the record, I'd probably forfeit my three T.O. shows for the HFX show. OK, well, maybe not the last one, but I'd happily give up the other two to see what you guys saw back home. Anyday. I dunno, I wish I had the dough to do some major traveling and see them some more, but its pretty tough right now. Australia in the fall ? Now wouldn't that be a blast ?! (its the beginning of their summer). Anyways, Lanners, I wouldn't worry - I get the feeling you're going to see them again before the party is over.

    I hope you're right.

My brother and i were having a discussion yesterday about whether or not we think they'll come back on this tour. He is a nay, i am a perpetual yay! He's a little more cynical than i am, or else i'm just ignorantly optimistic.

What does everyone think? Think we'll have another go at it? I mean this part of the country did make the album #1...

I wouldn't mind seeing Wilco. Never have. Lanners, I want a full report on my "desk" right after the show. And don't give me any lame shit about computer mishaps and deleted reports that are "almost done". Got that ? Or I'll have to come down there and kick your ass.

I don't know if we're going to be able to get tickets. The pre-sale sale sold out very quickly and it's not a huge venue so we're a little apprehensive. Too bad my friends like to sleep in!

I'll give you a full report, allrighty! If we get to go. If we don't, then i'll be the one kicking asses!!!

sward--haven't heard anything further regarding Magnetic Hill. It's not looking good.

boo-urns is all i have to say to that!

Parlee Beach is nothing spectacular this summer either.

So, i read an interview with the band in Entertainment Weekly today where Ed admits that he reads the message board (and has even posted on here once). Maybe it's time to start a "(#) reasons why PJ should come back" list in case he ever comes across this (not that he would, but you never know).

    Would anyone care to begin?

The city officials involved and the promotor haven't yet said explicitly that there won't be a rock show this year. According to the Moncton paper 2 weekends ago, negotiations were still ongoing with a big act(s) for a possible show. There was also talk of a Bon Jovi/Nickelback show taking place in July. Nothing has really been mentioned since.

There was also mention of the possibility of the Rolling Stones coming back to the Maritimes, specifically Halifax. According to CBC news a representative from Donald K. Donald Productions confirmed the date as September 23. However, most people involved are playing coy about it and are only saying that negotiations have taken place but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Eddie if you're listening, we are in dire need of PJ back in the Maritimes be it Moncton or Halifax.

no problem vic...i hope you find what you're looking for!

    on another note...

whatever happened to the big shows we used to get in Shediac in the early 90s? Parlee Beach concerts were the place to be! We used to get shitfaced and camp out on the former Lieutenant Governor's cottage lawn with her kids.

nothing beats collapsing from heat stroke during Meatloaf's set and the Red Cross people step on you and don't offer you water or help! ;)

I'm really hoping this album has some good commercial success only because the concert promoters may try a bit harder to get PJ back here for a big concert... When they fly under the radar as they have the last few years, band promoters don't tend to target them if they arent a big fan, at least not around here. The sooner promoters realize PJ would sell out any venue (even easier with the new album generating buzz) and get them back here, the happier I will be. I would be SHOCKED if they did return though. But its not just the Halifax fan base... a concert in Halifax is a concert drawing fans from all over the east coast of Canada and the upper eastern USA (and many fans from all over North America who seem to have no travel constraints like jobs or money... ;) )
    ..................
    Halifax, Summer 2008... they return!
  • swardsward Posts: 586
I don't think it's a worry about if they will sell out or not..I think it's more to do with the logistics of bringing a show through the maritimes. It is like a 10 or 11 hour drive from the next closest 'big' city..Quebec City... (and no..Moncton doesn't count :p)

Regardless of all that, I hope that they do make it back, but when you don't see Montreal on the agenda..Halifax certainly isn't going to be there. Hopefully patience will lead us into 2007 and the boys are still out there and want to wrap it all up here!

today has been a sad day for me.

    i didn't get Wilco tix.

there were 5 of us who wanted to go, only three tix were able to be got right away. i went to the box office on my break and the lady working was selling the last ticket to someone when i got to the ticket window.

    so, no Wilco for me.

one of my friends who got a ticket offered hers to me because she felt bad because the show is so close to my bday, but i didn't want to be "that jerk" who took the ticket from her.

so, i leave my folly up to the fates. if i am meant to go to the show then i will somehow find a ticket without taking it from one of my luckier friends.

For most quality bands/artists, i.e. Pearl Jam, Atlantic Canadians tend to be very rabid and supportive fans. Now get your asses back to Halifax, Pearl Jam!! I'm starting to regret not getting any tickets for their shows in Boston. I deperately need to see them on this tour.
