  • Free countries are the norm and do you know why. Wars. When those freedoms in countries comes into question where do they turn...America. Without American intervention in WWII what would Europe look like today? Egypt doesn't seem to have a problem accepting American money right now. Syria rebels seem to be enjoying our weapons...

You aren't necessarily wrong about some things, but on occasion you tend to dismiss anything that doesn't work for what you are saying as not relevant. I'm not so sure that's a healthy way to approach a discussion.

If America had not joined the fight in WWII... their flag might look a little different today. All the history books I have read and studied speak of an allied force that emerged victorious.

I am convinced some among us have evolved into the type of people that purposefully seek to irritate and annoy by uttering statements that are in contrast with common sense and logic. The size of the gap that exists between what they present and the logic that they receive likely yields a corresponding intrinsic reward (the more absurd and the more obvious it ticks people off... the happier one is for their efforts).

It's like small children that we have all observed. One might poke another and giggle... then persistently do it again. Inevitably, the one getting poked gets upset. The 'poker' often still persists: trying to get the same reaction over and over.

So, connecting the dots, some have not learned to play well with others.
Oh I get what you are saying here and agree. You mean like when people use another poster
personally in their posts and then tell them they are just messing with them ...
I have seen that as well. Good thing most posters remain positive and don't incessantly pick
    on others.

No. No, you definitely don't get what I am saying here.

It's not a good thing most posters remain positive and don't incessantly pick on others... it's a great thing: a real tribute to the level of patience a human is capable of. To illustrate what I mean... look at some of the posts supporting Mitt Romney (he came close to being your president  ) and his unbelievably poor address to those graduating college kids. There are some who read some of the posts saying the speech was awesome and this guy is a great guy which, of course, is obviously ridiculous to say. But the overwhelming majority of this community simply sighs when reading these types of comments instead of attacking such a position that is so easy to do.

Your daughter will love Costa Rica. I backpacked there for a month about 20 years ago- one of the best times of my life. A country with healthcare and public education: bordered by two countries which did not provide those services for their citizens and faced brutal civil wars (some say as a result). Lesson: take care of your people and the people will be at peace.

That sounds wonderful thirty and a whole month...
wow I can see how that would be the time of a lifetime! 8-)
wonderful memories for you :D I'll share with her.

She is very excited! She's a biology major with Associate Degrees in Criminal Justice
and Forensics planning to go into those fields. But I keep hoping she will choose life over death
and find a spark on one of these trips to guide her towards a career with animals or the Earth.
This is where she excels from her heart.

    Thanks for sharing your story...
I do like your stories though we find ourselves on other sides of debates.
The human factor hopefully comes through anyways, though we don't agree.

wrong again. if america were calling the shots for the entire allied forces, why did we not take berlin ourselves? why did we keep our armies from going in and taking the city ourselves? why did we divide berlin after the war?

fact is, there were more countries involved in the allied forces, see, it is FORCES...not force..

this revisionist history and america uber alles shit needs to stop. the descendents of those who did the fighting can not take the credit because they had NOTHING to do with it. the right is trying to rewrite the history during the bush years. you can polish a turd all you want but in the end it is still a turd.

lol, don't change it if you don't want to. avatars are how i remember people. like if i ever meet byrnzie i expect him to look like d.b. cooper lol....

i met some great people at pj20. we camped, so we all kind of depended on each other so getting to know everyone was kind of necessary. i still talk to many of them. the pre parties seem too cliq-ish for my tastes. if you ever see me again say hi. i doubt i will cry in my beer though, because i know that euthanizing him was the right thing to do, and it was the only treatment option. i know that i gave him a good, long, life and that he was thankful for that. he was a rescue and was to be put down in 2002 but i rescued him before that happened.

i am making a collage of nash pics for mother's day. when i would travel my mom would take care of him for me. until he got old, then i had to board him at the vet because he needed more advanced care. she was really upset when he passed, so i was going to make a collage of a few pics for her, that sig pic being one of them. she did not get to see him the last several weeks so she never got to say goodbye. i went to a frame store yesterday and the lady helping me had the same reaction as your daughter. she had a yellow lab at one point too.

PJ 20 sounded like so much fun and camping awesome, good way to get to know new friends.
Glad you were able to make it and had a great time.

Charlie was a rescue too, the only time I could bring myself to go to animal control.
He was to be put down the day after I went to get him. He lived a long happy life
and we too had to make that decision. We knew it was time.

You are a thoughtful son, I was just going to add that to the thread about falling in love,
being a good son. Your Mother will cherish that gift. I'm sorry she couldn't say goodbye.
Her memories and these pics will be of happier times. I hope this will be the best
Mothers Day yet for you both!

Charlie was a yellow lab with six inch legs, he was a funny good natured guy,
never serious and everybody's friend. Labs are wonderful dogs.
I can't help but wonder if you have allowed another into your life to enjoy you
and your love. Good people make good dogs and we need more of both.

We are in opposition more times than not. Well... maybe every time?

But... regardless of our differences and as kooky as I think you are sometimes... I'm completely confident you are a fine person. If one thing can be said for you: you're persistent and when you get behind something... you're behind it.

I'm never going to suggest that I am always right. I'll always be open to the possibility that I might be wrong. The reason for this is the fact that I've been wrong many times in my life and I don't think I've perfected life yet (as strong as I might speak at times).

Anyways... please keep this stuff in mind the next time I'm challenging you or having some fun with you.

    * I'm sure your daughter has done her research, but the Caribbean side to Costa Rica is rougher than the Pacific side (at least it was when I was there). Your daughter should proceed with caution if seeking to check out places such as Limon and Cahuita. It's a great country, but like all others... it has its areas that need to be respected. Manuel Antonio (on the Pacific side) was by far my favourite spot there.

The only thing missing from giving this response a polished finish is an emoticon with a booger hanging out of its nose and sticking it's tongue out at you.

    * Stumbled across Elephant last night. The movie that I was believed to have been banned in parts of the US if memory serves me correct? Loosely based on the Columbine incident, the kid had purchased his assault rifle, ammunition, and magazines on-line... having all delivered to his home.

Question (for anyone): can one actually purchase an assault rifle like this kid did in the movie?

I shouldn't even comment on this but because it is so outrageous you force me to do it.

Basically, what you are saying, that the allied forces would have won the war, europe would look the way it is, even if America decided to stay home and have a nice day. Give me a break.

They will stay at Catie Research Center for a few nights on arrival
then make their way to other destinations where they stay in hotels and will have some city life
as well as touring a coffee plantation and rain forest.
I haven't had the itinerary emailed to me yet.
Being her Mom I worry but know she'll be taken good care of and she has
pretty good common sense when it comes to dangers. She had a forklift accident Christmas of 08 that compromised her leg so the hiking I worry about a little. Pain and exhaustion.
She's been working with a private trainer though as of late. I hope stronger than ever.

Thanks for sharing your trip info with us. Costa Rica sounds just beautiful :D

i believe that there are lots of things that Obama would like better, but sure look, whatever floats your boat buddy.

And isn't this whole argument of; bad guys will have guns so good guys should have them too, really redundant now. I mean that some of you still use the terms "good guys" / "bad guys" is insane for anyone calling themselves an adult.

Back round checks = end of days (seems like a well thought out, reasoned, balanced, argument), but sure look it's been talked about and talked about and nothing has changed, the gun lobby, against the express wishes of the general populace has won the day by bullying, bribery and threats. Democracy indeed.

"against the express wishes of the general populace has won the day by bullying, bribery and threats."

if we all pay close attention it's pretty easy to see the general popuace wants guns.

the anti gun fanaticsjust don't understand if guns were outlawed that would mean ONLY the public would be bared from owning guns NOT the police,CIA etc.(not to mention criminals)...

I fairly sure that as part of the public, criminals would also be barred from owning firearms.

criminals don't use regestered guns and going across the border to get one will be a small problem not to mention the black market for guns will explode, drugs are illegal but finding them is easy right ? and every criminal with the know how to build a gun will open shop but as has been said many time there is no attempt to disarm America (my opinion...nothing obama would like better)

aaah incomplete sentences.. they'll get you every time. perhaps you should've said.. [not to mention criminals] being able to procure weapons by any means open to them. it would've made the intent of your comment clearer. and yeah youre correct, criminals seem to have no great difficulty finding weapons.. and to that you have to ask why don't they? if the government were serious about cutting down on gun related crime then surely theyd tighten the noose.. but they don't and I believe that has to do with the hard on the US has for her 2nd amendment. the right the US people have to bear arms extends to criminals because no one really cares enough to curb access. the arms industry is massive and a whole lot of people seem okay with it... one of the downsides of that trade is the illegal importation of weapons and the sale of those weapons. perhaps if that issue was addressed seriously then the level of gun related crime would drop to where the legal ownership of guns isn't the issue it is.
