so, gun lovers keep saying that guns don't kill people. using that same logic, guns have never saved anyone from harm. this lead me to the next question: what are guns good for if they don't kill people or animals, or if they don't save people from being harmed?

guns have never saved anyone from harm :? what?
my neighbor is alive because a gun saved him from harm ...

    countless stories nationwide everyday

I don't understand why common sense is not with the anti gun people.
The main reason that people own guns is to protect themselves.
The recent surge to arm the average man and women is because criminals
have guns and will always have guns because they do not follow the law.

So logically removing guns from criminals and removing criminals from society
removes the need to own a gun other than those who collect and for sport.
    Which does not include me.

So any laws pushed through now should be directed towards those who are criminals
not law abiding responsible gun owners. This alone would help the average citizen
feel safer without the need to arm.

you know you're completely out of touch when you think it's ok to market and sell guns to 5 year olds ... that you have lost any sense of reason and that basically anything that might RESTRICT gun ownership is bad ... in none of the scenarios discussed here nor in congress has there been a discussion of an all out ban on guns ... but that is what the pro gun folks keep bringing up ... :fp:

If someone juggled chainsaws on a unicycle … for a living … they would not defend letting their five year old kid own a chainsaw, less yet juggling the chainsaw on a unicycle.

And when worst comes to worst, they would not say that letting their kid play Duke Nukem is more irresponsible then letting them cut down a tree with a chainsaw.

But who the hell knows. Maybe the kid is going to be a responsible logger some day.

he's saying you can't have it both ways. if you believe that "guns don't kill people, people kill people". then it stands to reason then that you have to believe the inverse:"guns don't save people, people save people".

and your last statement is in direct contractiction to what you've always held dear: "why make more laws since criminals don't follow laws?"

it's funny to me you equate people who are against senseless violence as "fanatics". no one is telling you you can't own a gun for the purposes you noted above. NO ONE is against that. you don't need a semi automatic for any of those purposes.

the government tells you you can't have drugs. are you against that? many people use drugs recreationally without harm. where are you protesting against that? why does the government punish me? I'm a responsible drug user!

pro gun people. as far as i can tell.

and the arguments that are brought forth by pro gun people suggest the only way to curb gun violence is to eradicate guns. cause nothing else will solve our problems in terms of regulation according so.

    funny.

sane discussion on perhaps making it hard for someone with mental problems to possess a firearm ... well, why don't we have checks on the same people to own a butter knife?

    logical.

In my post I was amazed at the numerous horrible scenarios I posted of children
being victimized by bad parenting and still gun opponents lumped a responsible gun owner
    with parents like that.

This why gun opponents consistently fail in their argument. Basic common sense.
Seeing responsible owners as who they are. Seeing all important motives
and reasons for owning. Knowing why people own guns legally and that motives
are honorable in most cases is a must to good common sense.

Gun owners aren't the bad guys. Criminals are the bad guys.
Unfortunately gun opponents are not separating that fact nor directing their energy towards
removing guns from the bad guys and removing bad guys from society.

I also said for me personally 5 was too young an age to start teaching gun safety
but of course that was ignored :?

I have to disagree that banning is not desired by many gun opponents, it is and
    is the goal of many.

yes why the confused look... ;) yes people save themselves and others due to the fact
they are gun owners. I guess all of us agree to that.
  • I am convinced some among us have evolved into the type of people that purposefully seek to irritate and annoy by uttering statements that are in contrast with common sense and logic. The size of the gap that exists between what they present and the logic that they receive likely yields a corresponding intrinsic reward (the more absurd and the more obvious it ticks people off... the happier one is for their efforts).

It's like small children that we have all observed. One might poke another and giggle... then persistently do it again. Inevitably, the one getting poked gets upset. The 'poker' often still persists: trying to get the same reaction over and over.

So, connecting the dots, some have not learned to play well with others.

in the case of the 5 year old killing his sister...

if a good kid with a gun had been there he would have stopped the bad kid with the gun...

And american kids can't even have Kinder Eggs because they're banned...... But they can have a real gun with real ammo capable of killing real people (and even in pink for the girls!). Chocolate egg - gun? Gun - chocolate egg? Which is most dangerous? Chocolate egg! :o

This is a great point and something that would be a positive law to encourage to be passed.
As I said 5 seemed to young to me... 3 yes there are warnings on toys of all ages.

The only slippery slope I am seeing in regards to guns is not that the guns will be taken away but that we will all become armed without proper training and without proper safety precautions being taken. It is now acceptable in many areas to arm our children to the teeth in order to protect and in order to prove to the government and to the 'anti-gunners' that we are indeed entitled to own whatever gun we want, to take that gun wherever we want and all of this can be done without providing all of the non-criminal, law abiding, non gun owning FELLOW citizens the basic courtesy of showing that you are a responsible gun owner. There is your slippery slope. Not one person on this forum, and from what I have seen many of these fellow forum members would describe themselves as liberals, has said they want a ban on guns. Instead what we are calling for is safe, responsible gun owners that will register their guns that they use for protection or for hunting, to take a class on safe ways to store their guns, and the proper handling of said guns. And we are being unreasonable. No, in fact, it is the pro-gunners that are being unreasonable. Time to quit talking the talk and walk the walk.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Ok, have you taken a gun safety class? Do you properly store your guns? Do you teach your kids (if you have kids) proper gun safety techniques?

Also, do you register your car? Do you get your drivers license? What about your boat, motorcycle, etc? Where is your willingness to compromise? I think most gun control advocates have proven they are willing to compromise what about those of you that are pro-gun?
