who here is saying otherwise?
You also for some reason disregard these parents and seem to demonize them,
making them solely the bad guys. Why I asked about your personal experience.
Mine tells me they are good parents at a bad time in the teen years. That happens.
so did you make your teenagers wear pre-approved clothing before leaving the house?
so did you make your teenagers only have a haircut that was approved by you?
so did you only let your teenagers listen to Stryper?
stifling a person's individuality and spirit just confuses, angers, and alienates them. sometimes, tragically, to the point of suicide or drugs or even Columbine. yes, there are some things that my kids will have to do in life. but I will never MAKE them worship anything that I worship. that's a personal choice, not one to be forced upon.Gimli 1993

I was and am very liberal with my children and those I helped care for.
A friend, as from young on I claimed I would always want to be to my children.
But you know hindsight is 20/20. I might have avoided some heartache for all of us if I had
been just a little tougher.
No to all the above, pink hair ok... choose your clothes... I don't know Stryper but never kept
them from listening to what they wanted. Even the heavier rap.
We even had a bit of witchcraft much to the neighbors chagrinfunny memory.
But you are missing the point. My children did know what behavior was expected.
What our family valued and what bonded us.
If that was religion, which you know I am not involved in religion
and I did not believe until I was 40, I would have expected them to follow the family
to church as a family until they left the home. Once on their own they make their choices.
Now they are approaching 30, I may not always agree with the choices but I am always there
when they need me and I have never broken a promise. I am the rock they can always depend on.
As my son puts it... opinionated, but never judgmental and always forgiving.
I'll take that.... 2 out of 3 ain't bad.0 -

I'm not at all missing the point. your point was that you'd force your children, as long as they live under your roof, to worship who you choose to worship.
I say that is wrong. You say that is right. end of discussion.Gimli 1993

Anyway, when it comes to young people of ' age of reason', the priest (or however one wishes to call the person officiating) will prefer no presence to false representation for the service.0

I've been straight forward with my parents and told them that I want no part of it. I don't know whether or not I believe, but all I know is that I do not want to attend church regularly. They scold me and tell me I'm fucked up. They can't accept it. Its just getting old at this point. Endless arguing all the time has become redundant. I have no problem with religion or people who choose to lead a religious-based life. I just don't see that as something I want for myself. So has anyone ever had this experience before? Any suggestions on how to get my parents to respect my point of view?
Hey...
Don't sweat it.
You are living in their home... they want you to go with them to church. No big deal. It ain't worth the hassle.
Focus on getting out of their home and out in your own. i know, it's tough and expensive and it takes a long time. First step... get a job. A job means independence. With a job, comes money. Money to pay for stuff you want, not stuff you have to depend on your parents for. Who knows... maybe you can voluenteer for that Sunday morning shift... make it to church just in time for that free breakfast.
Bottom line... your parents love you. Sometimes it's just better to let the little shit slide off your back.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!
