and having our hearts broken in september all those years was what made the payoff in 08 that much worthwhile. i know i'm not alone with that thinking.
I'd even go back as far as 2001 for this current "stretch" or whatever it can be called. Bowa's first season and it was a huge turnaround (from 65 wins the year before to 85). It was Rollins's first full season with the team as well, and Burrell's second. The seeds were planted.
Agreed. It was fun watching this team bloom.
good point. i was living in virginia back in 01 so i couldnt watch them as much as i wanted. killed me that it was their first good year since 93 too...
been a good run, boys
I sadly agree with the fixer though. I'd trade everyone not named Hamels and Utley.Go Birds!!!!0 -
i think everyone should be on board with unloading if they are out of it in a month or so.
why would you not want to trade utley though?www.myspace.com0 -

because he is everything you want in a baseball player.
if someone gives them a ridiculous package they should think about it. I love the guy, so I can't fully endorse trading him.
I would try like hell to package lee with howard, similar to what boston did with gonzalez/crawford last year. Howard is untradeable by himself, so I'd force another team to take him if they want lee. Phils would probably have to eat salary in order to get anything decent in return, but it would be addition by subtraction.
I really miss pat gillick0 -

scouts (ie, not phillies puppets like salisbury or brookover) project him as a utility guy, not an everyday player. they really don't have any decent position prospects. roman quinn is probably the best one.0 -

I'd bring up Ruf and see what him and Brown can do. Sadly Utley might bring back the best package other then Lee though. I just don't wanna see Chase in another Uniform.

well they aren't having a fire sale if they're 3 out...

It's funny because I actually know a guy that's a hardcore Marlins fan. Grew up in Davie, FL (right outside Miami), became a fan the moment they came in the league, was at all 4 home games of the 1997 World Series with his dad (and one of the 2003 WS games). A real fan. And here's a standard joke of his: "I wish I could clone myself and fill this stadium with a bunch of myselves so people would know that there are SOME real Marlins fans." But since cloning isn't available, it's basically just him and a bunch of fairweather bandwagoners.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea.
