why is chase Utley above getting criticized in this town? is it because he is white???

jim Salisbury on csnphilly.com today talks about last night's game and mentions how ryan howard is hitting only .176 against lefties but he fails to mentions that is 62 points HIGHER than the golden boy (obp is almost the same, and slg and ops ryan is higher vs. lefties). chase is hitting a whopping .114 against lefties so far this year with 1 more at-bat than ryan.

look i'm not arguing that ryan doesn't need to be a lot better than he has been so far this year, but everyone acts like chase is having a good year and ryan isn't but ryan's overall stats are almost identical to chase's yet the perception is chase has been good and ryan has been bad (not even accounting for the 27 error pace chase is on defensively as opposed to zero for ryan).

    perception vs. reality.

    howard ops = 800
    utley ops = 830

    howard AAV = $25 mill
    utley AAV = $15 mill

    utley five tool player
howard one tool player (you could really argue zero tools at this point of his career...-1.5 WAR over last calendar year)

    so, um...yeah.

you really need to just stop talking baseball altogether. you'd save yourself a lot of embarrassment.

thanks for proving my point that the golden boy is above criticism and on what planet is chase still considered a 5 tool player? do 5 tool players hit .114 against lefties?

Doesn't matter what they get back, just get rid of this albatross. Addition by subtraction. Don't think it's plausible to find a team dumb enough to take him, but I am hoping.

seriously what the fuck are you talking about? so hitting against 40% of the pitchers doesn't fucking matter for chase (but does for ryan?) I know your a tool but come on dude, even for you that's just a ridiculous comment. just stop, go back to talking about traffic.

I think he means if he's not hitting lefties, then "hitting" is no longer one of his tools. And also, Utley's defense has declined a bit as well. That said he's easily still our best player.

    'your a tool'

nothing like trying to make fun of someone and not being able to properly execute 2nd grade grammar

hitting lefties isn't a tool dude. like I said, you should do yourself (and everyone else) a favor and never talk baseball

    typical amaro move

like throwing gasoline on a fire

they could put zambrano in the OF and he'd be their best bat

well then that makes even less sense. Utley has the 5th highest OPS for all 2B's in MLB. So even if he is struggling vs lefties, he can obviously still hit.

but hey, some people here just like to throw around fallacies, regardless of how inaccurate they may be

bottom line is that someone tried to compare howard to utley. I don't think that dude has ever been right in this thread.

    Dude flat out stinks.

Howard has 16 strikeouts in his last eight games. He is hitless in his last 14 at-bats. Nine of those have resulted in strikeouts. He wore a golden sombrero Saturday (and went 0-5)

atta way big fella :clap: hope this gets him off the schnide.

all in all, a 4-3 west coast trip against a couple decent teams. i'll take that.

gentlemen, need i remind you that this is a marathon, not a sprint? we all realize that this is a deeply flawed team, but the football mentality we have in this town regarding this sport is always funny to me. we'll know where we stand in about 3 to 4 weeks.

Hitting up The Blockley this weekend for a legit Talking Heads cover band. Check it out. Should be a blast.

Hoping for a nice day and some combination of the Rittenhouse Spring Festival, Morgan's Pier and Frankford Hall for a very drunk Saturday.

    Great time of year.
