Without a doubt the record I spin the most...

    image

I bought this a couple months ago only knowing Songs For the Deaf prior...and I just can't get enough of it. I find myself thinking about parts of the album throughout the day. I have ordered Rated R now.
  • Best: every album by John Frusciante, 'Blunderbuss' by Jack White, 'Lightning Bolt' by Pearl Jam, 'Ryan Adams'

Worst: 'Wakin On A Pretty Daze' by Kurt Vile (constant distortion & hissing - b side is unlistenable), 'Live At TMR' by The Raconteurs (also distortion & hissing, though it's not so bad as Kurt)
    2014: Trieste, Italy 06-22
    2018: Padova, Italy 06-24
    2022: Imola, Italy 06-25

That's interesting, I find Lightning Bolt to be below par and my copy of Wakin' On A Pretty Daze to sound really good, mines the 'deluxe' version though on blue vinyl...

Yep, great sounding Queens record this, perfect really, but be careful of Rated R, there's a dud pressing out there, I replaced mine with a much better sounding recent reissue, glad I did, one of the their best...

Mine also! Blue one with "clear" cover (without stickers). I bought it when he was on tour here in Zagreb, it was suprisingly cheap (rougly 15$). Seems a bit odd. This is probably the worst vinyl in my collection :disappointed:
As for 'Lightning Bolt', I have european version, really sounds great!

  • Does anybody have 'Carrie & Lowell' by Sufjan Stevens?
I read on discogs & amazon that there are plenty of bad pressings... It's a shame really, such a great album!

This would definitely have to be one of the best sounding records in my collection, just phenomenal, so crisp and dynamic. A real kick-ass reissue...

This one not so great. It's ok, but sounds a little muddy, maybe it's a little compressed. If you want this album I'd try find an original and not this repress..

Wow ok, opposite for me, Lightning Bolt sounds average, but Wakin' is sublime.. Weird.

Unfortunately, earlier in this thread I actually names the Rated R reissue as my worst sounding album. I hope you didn't get the same version I did (from Amazon)! If it's the latest reissue (2014?), I'm sorry to say that this album sounds like shit (despite it being a good album from QOTSA). It sounds super flat and dead. The reissues that sound good are Lullabies to Paralyze and Era Vulgaris.

I have an original copy of VS which I cleaned really good today and cranked the sucker up. :rock_on: It's one of the better sounding rock records I have.

I'm gonna put it in my next order, so I can let you know how it sounds. They have a ton of great stuff and really reasonable prices. Supposedly, there's always some kinda sale going on, but I just discovered them. The code I used was jan1650 for 20% off. Not sure it's still active or not.

Also on the link you posted it has a release date of 2003, this record was never reissued in 2003.

    I'd recommend this pressing...

With the 000 000-0 catalog number it's a really good pressing, I brought this one myself recently to replace the former LP and it sounds really good..

Yeah, there's something up with the info and pic at the website. I read a detailed description of the different versions and a few people said that they ordered from ccmusic and got the great sounding pressing. Some differences in the matrix and the album art is very slightly different.

Just checked and the coupon code still works for 20% off on order over $50.....jan1650 is the actual code

Looking to get one of those. :) I am pretty sure most of the Radiohead Parlophone presses are superior. I had US Kid A - Amnesiac and HTTT presses I bought new but took them back after listening - Kid A was noisey in the quiet parts - Amnesiac had a bunch of fill - and HTTT had a swooshing sound on one side. Yuck - Someday I will get all of them proper.

Fair enough. I'd be interested to find out if the version you end up with does sound decent as I had the one with that same catalog number and it sounded pretty bad...

After my comments above regarding Radiohead LP pressings, I decided to listen to both my Capitol releases of Ok Computer and The Bends as it's been a while since I played them. 'Ok' sounds really good, no major issues, track one Airbag doesn't seem quite as full sounding as the rest of the tracks, but thats about it. I guess I got one of the decent one's there.

The Bends though is a little murky sounding, definitely could be more dynamic, especially on the loud parts of My Iron Lung, still on a whole not too bad. I might have to try find the Parlophone versions and do a test...

Me too. CD's are a little out of vogue right now but there a lot of bands/studios that made excellent use of the format.

IMO, by the early to mid '90's, the art of recording, mixing and mastering for CD was largely perfected.

Some CD's just sound better than their vinyl counterparts.
