I always find this response comical. then you see these same people calling for tougher drug laws and such, and you ask them "if criminals don't follow laws, why have any?".

all you get on that one is crickets.[/quote

Yep. If you follow their line of logic then we should make heroin legal since it is illegal and people still get their hands on it. Then again bringing logic into this conversation flies in the face of all of their beliefs on it.

I'm not going to change the topic entirely but many people believe heroin (all drug) laws should be repealed at the federal level. Not because we want kids to have access but because the war on drugs is a waste of money and federal drug laws are unconstitutional. Drug laws should be left to the states.

you think a gun is the ONLY way to protect yourself? talk about a deluded comment.

not to mention she just recently got one for herself. all of a sudden she's talking down to the group she was a part of for 157 years.

it is utterly STUPID for anyone to suggest that NOT owning a gun makes you fearful. :fp:

Fearful of what exactly, if one doesn't own a gun? Also, if you have ANY COMMON SENSE who exactly is relying on other people for protection? I have a sword and various other weapons that do not include a gun and I don't live in ANY FEAR except maybe for some aliens from outer space specifically THE Sombero Galaxy.

federal drug laws are unconstitutional but state ones are tip top notch? I just don't get this logic.

It's supposed to be left up to the states. Article 1 Section VIII states exactly what expressed power the federal government has.

Everything else was supposed to be left to the states.

yes, I understand that is what is written, but I don't get the purpose. what difference does it make if it's a federal law or a state one? and to the point that people are crying foul over it.

Quite simply it's an unconstitutional expansion of federal power. Subsequently it becomes a gigantic waste of taxpayer dollars.

In regards to what exactly? Guns? Assuming yes, I am for state background checks but against a database being maintained of who owns what.

the "struggles". using the word "struggles" in relation to getting a gun is laughable. I know what I'm talking about. I just sometimes choose to be facetious. You don't like it? not my problem.

Clearly not ones that keep people with a history of domestic violence from buying a gun. I think he meant BETTER background checks, and better standards as to who can and can't own a gun.

I don't know if that's the exact way that they should be described but they are an expressly defined set of rules as to what the general (federal) government can or can not do.

The idea was to keep the general government in check and have the power remain with the states.

A sort of you (feds) can speak for us (states) but you can not rule us.

so the answer is, yes, you approve of federal law when it suits your purpose, but you don't when it doesn't.

I approve of federal law when the Constitution allows it. Don't try changing what I've said.

I just think it's hypocritical to approve of a federal legal document but disapprove of federal law making. why should one piece of paper, hundreds of years old, trump another? to me that's the same as holding the bible as the one true law ver batim.

The Constitution is not written in stone. It is a living breathing document that can and has been changed(amended).
