I like both rap and rock but usually hate when they're mixed. But IMHO last night was perfect. WMA was easily the best version I've ever heard and that beat flowed so well behind Jays verses. Couldn't be happier with that collab. I'm so happy I can appreciate different types of music, just like the band.

Totally agree! Wish I could've been there. Jay Z has always been a little rock&roll, just like Run DMC. And funky drummer Matt owned the intro. Cultural cross-pollination is what rock&roll and America are about.

I'm not a Jay-Z fan, but that was pretty fucking cool. Looks (on paper) like it was an awesome show. Fuck the bitching about festivals...PJ is PJ. It looked awesome. Hopefully there's a boot...

Totally dig this. As first, it was weird, then I found out that the song was about racial profiling and in reference to the police and not a female, and my whole opinion change. Also fits WMA perfectly.

Good move by the guys doing this. Anytime that the message of peace, hope and love can be extended to new audiences, its a good thing.

i'm surprised the band do a song that involves niggas, hoes, bitches and pussy

I mean Stone gets upset about salmon not being able to swim or something, but he plays on a song that calls women pussies/hoes?

    weird.

next festival performance is with 2 Live Crew apparently

The language is pretty obscene but I think the underlying meaning of the song and the story within lines up pretty exact with WMA (racist cops)

I read the lyrics of the song so dont need to wikipedia it... i get the message... just surprised that the band played along when thats the lyrics... meaning or not.

i'm not saying they shouldnt have played... they can do what the fuck they want... i'm just surprised.

  • I'm not sure where i stand on this one yet, not to big a fan of pj doing this, but if i give it a few more listens it might grow on me, but I do respect PJ as an artist to do whatever they want and exppress themselves and play with whoever they want. and beside, if Jay Z came out and Rapped along to Dirty Frank, i bet nobody would be complaining then.

Although the song is allegedly about being stopped by cops, the fact that he clearly says "if you're having GIRL problems...i got 99 problems but the BITCH ain't one" clearly suggests he's talking about a woman not a female dog. No matter what the verses are about, the hook is what everyone sings/remembers and most people assume based on that alone that the song is about women. Was this an accident? I think not. And anyway I don't think that the song is any better if it's just another song where Jay-Z glorifies drug dealing. The line where he basically accuses the cops of racial profiling kills me-he's a DRUG DEALER that's why he's getting pulled over.

Before someone gets on my case about not listening to hip hop and thus not "getting it", I do listen to hip hop and I own this particular record. I just have this dilemma with Jay-Z...in my opinion once a drug dealer always a drug dealer. And don't give me the old "he had to do what he had to do to survive" line. I'm sure he HAD to shoot his older brother when he was 17.

    classy.

If I lived around guns, smoked weed and had a brother I might have shot him too when I was 12... especially if my brother was a crackhead.

He was 17 and already a drug dealer. And he shot him because he stole his jewelry. I'm sorry but this argument aggravates me because it removes personal responsibility from anyone. Moreover it belittles the COUNTLESS people who grow up in these environments and didn't decide that dealing drugs might be a good idea. Yes your environment shapes you, but it doesn't give you carte blanche to be irresponsible, anti-social and violent.

    You sure he wasn't 12?

If he was indeed 17 then yeah, but if he was actually 12...

...which he was...according to the internets...its not like I was there or anything...
