Therein lies the problem. There is far too many people on here who genuinely believe Pearl Jam is above everyone else and therefore they are too. I love reading the comments by fans saying how ignorant people are who don't like or know PJ. Why? The same people saying that are completely ignorant to other acts that performed in Philly over the weekend. The same people that jump on anyone who slates PJ but then are quick to slate bands they don't like. Pearl Jam and Vedder are not holier than thou and some people on here need to realize that. Pearl Jam are a great fucking rock band and my favourite ever band but some people need a reality check. People moaning cos they did a song with Jay-Z or sold a coat that was made in China....please get a life.

"horrified" Really??? By one song with Jay-Z? Please tell me your joking.

It was a spiritual experience. The show was a spiritual experience. I am still processing it because it was so powerful. For those who were not there, as is the case with every show, all the video in the world does not do their shows justice. You'd have to be there in person.
Jay-Z makes this show legendary. It was. The MAJORITY of the crowd was into Jay's presence. The ones that were not, were not because they weren't familiar with the lyrics.

By the way, for those of you who are not aware, the song is about a police dog, and not women, in general.
The song is about a fucking police dog.

Anyone complaining is not a fan or a true supporter of the band.
It was fucking amazing. And it will never happen again. Ever. That's what makes it legendary.
The peeps complaining need to zip it. It's a tired act.

Rude comments to other Ten Club members are NEVER ok here. Get laid, get a life, etc. Stop it now or have your forum account be read-only by your own choice. Some people didn't like that the band did this song and are talking about it because not everyone agrees the song is only about one thing. If you can't talk about the subject and stop directing personal comments at other members, then stop reading and stop posting. The Posting Guidelines are at the top of the page.

I haven't read through this thread but I want to chip in my 2 cents. I'm not a Jay-Z fan, but to me it was a super cool moment that happened. When Jay-Z came out the people around me went nuts - so clearly there were quite a few people that were into it. I also caught EV singing along with the chorus and he had a smile on his face, they all seemed to be having fun. The guy put on the fest and asked PJ to headline so he came out for a bit with his most popular song. I think some people may be looking too much into it. Let's not forget that this also gave us a full version of WMA...which was one of the coolest moments I've had in the 21 times I've seen PJ live. To each their own, but it's something I'll never forget.

I loved 99 problems when I first heard it and it made it to many of my cd mix "tapes".

Never really heard any other song by him but 99 problems is a great song with a great story with a License to Ill vibe. I think Rubin produced it.

These lyrics were so close to a real good buddy of mine it made the song extra cool to me.

But on the youtube vid. Ed does look a little board or annoyed.

Anyway Pearl Jam is cool. This was cool. And I wish I could hear how it flowed from WMA; which by the way fits perfectly with 99 problems.

The year is '94 and in my trunk is raw
In my rear view mirror is the mother fucking law
I got two choices yall pull over the car or
bounce on the double put the pedal to the floor
Now I ain't trying to see no highway chase with jake
Plus I got a few dollars I can fight the case
So I...pull over to the side of the road
And I heard "Son do you know why I'm stopping you for?"
Cause I'm young and I'm black and my hat's real low
Do I look like a mind reader sir, I don't know
Am I under arrest or should I guess some mo?
"Well you was doing fifty five in a fifty four"
"License and registration and step out of the car"
"Are you carrying a weapon on you I know a lot of you are"
I ain't stepping out of shit all my papers legit
"Do you mind if I look round the car a little bit?"
Well my glove compartment is locked so is the trunk and the back
And I know my rights so you gon' need a warrant for that
"Aren't you sharp as a tack are some type of lawyer or something?"
    "Or somebody important or something?"
Nah I ain't passed the bar but I know a little bit
Enough that you won't illegally search my shit
"Well see how smart you are when the K-9's come"
    I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one
    I found my place......and it's alright
  • otterotter Posts: 760
    Oh yeah....

He says: "I got 99 problems but a bitch aint one" Isn't he saying his girl is not a bitch? In other words he is happy about his relationship and if it weren't for her his problems would be overwhelming?
    I found my place......and it's alright

  • By the way, for those of you who are not aware, the song is about a police dog, and not women, in general.
The song is about a fucking police dog.

My only comment on this thread.

    Chorus : "I've got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one"

The song may be about police dogs or profiling, but you would have to be a fool if you didn't think Jay Z fully expected that chorus to be interpreted by 80% of the listeners in a way that references women. Jay Z is smart and knew it would be a money making chorus. Do you all really think the song would be as popular if the chorus was "I've got 99 problems but a police dog ain't one"?

I don't care that PJ did the collaboration, but it is silly to try to claim the chorus was meant to be anything other than how it sounds.

But the dog (assuming the cop dog was a bitch and not a boy dog) always sniffs out the stuff. Unless his trunk being "raw" (I always thought the lyric was full) means he wasn't "holding"?
    I found my place......and it's alright

I think you are wrong about the bitch in the song is referring to the k-9s.

Cause if his "raw" trunk was empty why would he consider "putting the pedal to the floor"?
