Great band but poorly run fan club.
I so disagree. I think it's a fantastic fan club - one of the best that does so much for its members.
Have fun with Phish. I'm glad you won't be around to be a Debbie downer anymore.

Hate to break it to you and most of "fans" I've been reading a lot on the forum...bands like Pearl Jam don't play their music because of the fans and their devotion-driven tattoos.

Musicians such as Pearl Jam and many others who have stood the test of time will tell you it's the music that makes the fans, not the other way around.

Not sure what bootleg it is, I'll hear again sometime, I'm sure...when Ed's talking to the crowd and says something to the effect of this:

"Even if there were only these six people here right in front, all six of us would still want to be up here playing our music."

    Thank you!
PJ is great to their fans, and they appreciate them, but it's their art that we're there for... how can you get pissy about artists not creating enough of it for fans? If they make you feel pissy, stop being a fan. They shouldn't have to change - you can just leave. You should be a fan for what they are, not for what you wish they'd be.

You're right I can't measure something like that. Who am I to say that Phish cares about their fans more than PJ does. My bad. I know PJ loves their fans and I have been to 45 shows and I love their music and like I said before they will always have a special place in my heart. But I can compare how these two bands opperate and as much as I hate to say it... It's night and day.

Assuming you're totally correct on this-- and who am I to say you're not?-- isn't a band first about the music? We had a similar discussion on the Paul Westerberg site- a lot of people are pissed that he only puts out stuff very sporadically and not in the format some would like and doesn't connect much with fans any more- but the general consensus is that we were lucky to have PW/Replacements music when we did and figure he doesn't really owe us a thing. We don't own the band.

Yes it is all about the music. No doubt! I guess I'm being selfish and would like to see PJ tour more and give back to their fans a little more. Really it's been one year and no PJ20 boots yet? to me that is ridiculous and a joke. I've been chasing Wash since my first show in 96 and I finally got it it night 2. it was a magical night for me. I don't know where I'm going with this but all I know when I am pumped about a Phish show I know it will be available to me when I wake up in the morning.

  • Regarding Phish. I personally know John Fishman's wife and have had a very few conversations regarding this topic. It's apples and oranges, really. Phish does not have to charge big prices mainly because they play in fields across the nation. They also don't have to play good music because noone in the crowd is paying attention anyways... Pearl Jam owes nothing to any fan at this point. Their prices have increased at a very normal rate for a successful band of 20 years. Phish quit for almost 4 years.... so don't tell us that they tour every year! Again, it is an unrealistic comparison on many fronts... enjoy the ride while it lasts(for both bands)

And for the record Phish sold more tickets to thier 2010 2 day run at Alpine Valley than PJ20. Yep no one is paying attention... Please people get out of your PJ bubble. You will thank me later.

Now, I get it...if only Pearl Jam was more like Phish, then you'd be a happy camper.

Great! Maybe, if the guys in the lame band would pay more attention to what other cooler bands (i.e., Phish) were doing, then the lame band wouldn't be as lame any more.

Gosh, it's all so simple now.

What I think is that it would be so much better if you went to the Phish fan club and talked about how great you think they are instead of coming here and using it as a statement about how PJ isn't as good. That would just be a much more positive and enjoyable experience for everyone including yourself, no? :) The route you seem to have chosen so far is just a downer for everyone. It's like going to a great restaurant where everyone is enjoying their food, it's their favorite place, and spouting off about how this other place down the street makes the delicious food everyone has in their mouth seem like dog shit by comparison. Why ya wanna be that guy??

Oh, also, I don't give a flying fuck about Phish. I'm here because i love PJ, like, unconditionally, so, you now, stop bad-mouthing the one I love. ;)
