  • They still give it their all every time they take the stage, no matter where it is. They make every show available for their fans to listen to at a reasonable price. They play shows every year somewhere. I ask you, what other band has been around for going on 22 years can say that?

Agree with some of the OP's points but I think the Avocado album is top notch! 8-)

  • Isn't this a fan club?? Are we not here because we LIKE or LOVE the band?
I'm a fan because I love the band. I like who they are, what they create, and what they stand for. I like to support them. I like that I get so much back. To me that's the definition of a fan.
I think they give us plenty...actually, coming off of last night at MIA, I think they give us everything they have...and then some. Of course, they can't please everyone all the time. I believe that would be the definition of selling out.

Recently, I read an article from Spin Magazine, who interviewed the lead singer from The Hives, Howlin' Pelle Almqvist. Almqvist had an interesting, poignant comment about the band's records. Here's an excerpt of the Q&A, followed by the link, if anyone's interested.

Spin: Why are Hives concerts always better than Hives albums?
Almqvist: It's just that other bands suck so much live that people only talk about our shows. Anyway, comparing concerts to albums is like asking if The Godfather is better than the "Mona Lisa." Our records are exactly what we want them to be.

I've haven't been happy with PJ for almnost 2 years now. Discovering Phish around the same time 2 years ago and the way the go and do things makes me realize that PJ is not what I always thought they were. Take it for what it's worth

    No, god, please don't.
I will never understand why people who don't even love PJ and have all these negative feelings about them still pay money to be members of their fan club. It makes no sense, and it's a bummer to have them on the forum.

Phish is just so amazing. Watch this video and it's obvious why.

Sure will. Look when I was 18 and in high school and the first time I heard Ten it changed my life forever. They will always have a special place in my heart and I will always love them. I have the freaking stickman tatoo for crying out loud and I love it. All I'm saying is that I always thought PJ was in it for the fans, but I'm not so sure anymore. Here is a list of what I love about Phish.

A band that tours the US constantly
Soundboard boots 1 hour after the show. 1 hour!! (Yeah I'm talking to you PJ20)
45-60 dollar ticket prices (paid 96 for PJ at MSG)
    No fanclub memership
    Killer fucking light show
I can go to 4 shows in a row and not hear one repeated song (love hearing Alive every show i go to....not. that's lazy to me) Plus Phish plays much longer then our beloved PJ
Live webcast shows all the time. (just saw thier 3 night run from the comfort of my couch the last 3 nights on my 52 inch flat screen TV... no line for the bathroom)
Did I mention I can hear any show live 1 hour after the show through their app at no cost (oh my bad.. I paid $1.99 for the app)
Oh yeah...the boot is FREE when you buy a ticket

Look I know there are not many Phish fans around here and if you don't like their music that is perfectly fine with me and I get it. I'm not trying to say Phish is a better band. All I knowis that Phish cares way more about it's fans then PJ does.

    I love this fuckin band.

On another note going with aforementioned Phish talk - a buddy of mine went to Denver for their shows over the weekend and needless to say, he enjoyed himself. :D

I don't know how you can measure something like that. With all they've been through, maybe just the fact that PJ is still doing it says something about their fan integrity. But why make the comparison? If a band isn't working for you, take a break from it. After that many years, I don't have any expectations that way. I could never do the same thing for 20 years so I'm glad they're still around.

  • $50 bucks is a lot to pay for what you get.
A lot of good points have been made.
I'm not renewing my membership. Just not worth it anymore.
Great band but poorly run fan club.
  • If you think these guys don't like to interact, try being a fan of Tool.

You're right I can't measure something like that. Who am I to say that Phish cares about their fans more than PJ does. My bad. I know PJ loves their fans and I have been to 45 shows and I love their music and like I said before they will always have a special place in my heart. But I can compare how these two bands opperate and as much as I hate to say it... It's night and day.

It's a good deal in my opinion. The digital is more than worth it for me. :D
