I was just reading all the posts on the forum, and there is such a negative tone.
I am starting feel the same way about the band. I been with them since 94. It just seems they never tour the states anymore and are out for the money , for example ...playing only festivals or doing just Europe and South America. South America is a money grad for any band ( specially less popular or irrelevant bands).

Then ed cancels American solo tour, cause of his back, but then goes on a European tour soon after? im not doubting he was hurt,,but seems strange. Also alot of people lost money on that deal, with airfare, hotels..ect.

The 2011 xmas package comes in 2013?

The band never comes on the forum or participates in anything , unless they want u to help them with a cause or to buy their stuff.

The last 3 records were ok, but very few moments that inspired you emotionally. Don't be a super fan...and really be honest with yourself.... You might agree.

One thing i do think is positive=The fan club admins, are always very nice and interactive. They do the best they can for us, and i respect then for it.

Thanks god there are new bands lke the Avett Brothers.... That truely inspire and love their fans.

Ok attack me now..

You can't compare a band like Pearl Jam whose been around over 20 yrs to a new band like the Avett Brothers.

All the bands now are getting famous in the age of texting, twitter, youtube. Its a whole different world. Pearl Jam may have been just as interactive with all that stuff as well 20 yrs ago. Plus, its not good for the band to get too interactive with fans anyway. You gotta have some good healthy distance there ya know?

I don't know, they play what they want in terms of shows....

They deserve the right to do so.....

They don't really owe us anything, as in coming on the forums...

Their music alone had kept me happy and that alone to me is what matters...

So, I'm not sure if I agree with you...... Sorry.

I agree that it is a bit frustrating to not have tons of shows every year, and agree that the festivals are a quick buck, but I don't know where this whole "pearl Jam never tours anymore" thing started. How many US shows did they play from 94-97 (94, about 20; 95 & 96, about 12 each year; 97, 4 opening for the stones and one club show)? Without counting, I would guess that PJ has played a similar number of shows the past 4 years as they did those 4.

The average income for South Americans is quite a bit less than that of Americans or Europeans, meaning that they have to charge less for tickets. Not sure it is a "money grad"

Ed didn't cancel his American solo tour, he postponed it. His Euro tour was a few months after his US tour was supposed to be

2011 yearly single is already out. plus, the single is always late. you always get one per year.

I would rather the band be working on music than trolling its own message board

As for the music, it is completely subjective. I haven't LOVED the past 2 records, but there are good songs on each.

First off...no, you're not the only one. But, as you already mentioned, it's the negativity and "what's in it for you" mentality that I, for one, am quite disgusted and burned out over.

    Last three albums, huh?

Of the three, one immediately comes to mind - Inside Job is one that truly inspires me emotionally.

I wouldn't call myself a "super fan", by any stretch of the imagination. I only came to be a 10club member last year, and Pearl Jam was on my list of favorite bands, along with a hundred others before I first saw them at PJ20 a year ago.

Now, a day never goes by that I haven't listened to Pearl Jam. I've tried to spin some other music, but I'm afraid it doesn't last more than an hour, if that.

I can tell you this, though. Whatever Pearl Jam wants to do, I'm alright with it. It's not my band, and that wouldn't change if I had been there when they were still calling themselves Mookie Blaylock.

  • Why do you feel you have any right to any artist? You make me sick!
  • I guess i stretched it by saying the last 3 records. I did like a few songs here and there.
I do love the band... Just annoyed with a few things... i guess what started it all, was not being able to view the MIA concert. It didnt make sesne that i could watch Jay z set but not pearl jams?

It is a shame that the guy cant just blow off some steam with out some one attacking him because he feels that way. To me seems like he just wants to have a mature conversation about some things that the band does that bother a lot of us.

I think he just has Pearl Jam withdraw and knowing they are out doing some shows that most cant reach has him even more bummed.

im just guessing but I go through it. Questing their motives. But then I put on the music and go on with my own life.

Shoot I been having nightmares since Yield came out that the band may break up :o

EDIT: Oh this post wasnt directed at you YieldToNothing buddy :D I just quoted you because that was funny ;)

Euro tour was booked before Ed's US tour. He was fully recovered in time for the Euro tour but wasn't recovered enough for his solo tour so postponed it instead of cancelling it or some of the early dates.

The "PJ don't play America" quotes are hilarious. Its 2 years since their last tour. They don't have a new album to promote, get a grip!!

PS, Pearl Jam has fans that live in other countries not just America. Thankfully this is something the band is aware of, unlike a minority of its US fans......

When this was announced, it was immediately stated that the Euro-tour wouldn't be in danger. Doesn't feel really strange to me. I have no reason to believe there was anything else going on then stated.

I think some of them are not very fond of internet. To be honest, I think it would seem uncharacteristic if they were very active on Social Media. I don't think it would work very well, anyway. Too many people who have something to say.
The last 3 records were ok, but very few moments that inspired you emotionally. Don't be a super fan...and really be honest with yourself.... You might agree.
That's very personal. Both Riot Act (Save You, Love Boat Captain, I Am Mine, You Are, Arc) and Avacado (Life Wasted, Gone, Come Back, Inside Job) had great inspirational songs for me. Backspacer.. meh, it's the only PJ record that I don't love (yet?), but I immediately liked it. I do know that a lot people loved it, although those might not be the people that were fan of the band before.

Most importantly, I believe they still make honest music. It's a reflection of where they are emotionally.
    Ok attack me now..
Your reproductive organs are below average in size!

Anyway, I don't think they owe us anything, besides honest music. There's no guarantee we will still like it, but that's just because we're fan of a band that keeps evolving. And remember, they are pushing 50, most of them do stuff beside Pearl Jam, which make it very hard to please everybody in the world. They should do what they like, I would hate to attend a concert where the band only is on stage because they feel obligated to.
