and that is exactly what guns deserve & must have otherwise the outcome is quite negative. my brothers and i never ever had toy guns. we never had had one single fake ass gun unless we made it ourselves out of wood and throwing stars out of can lids. haha. (tin snips is all ya need)

    anyway...

i am the oldest so i was the first to go along hunting with pops & grandpa. this was done before i could forn full sentences. dad's finger had my hand wrapped around it. i'm fucking young, ok! in 2nd or 3rd grade i got a 20 guage single shot shotgun. hunting was not like you'd think it was. the barrel was broke open and the shells in my pocket. if i saw something i had to place a shotgun shell into the gun then fire. this is how it was for one - two hunting seasons. the next hunting season i could have the shell in the barrel but the barrel was not closed. this was like this for several seasons. finally years/seasons later i could have shell in the barrel and have barrel closed shut.

dad constantly asking me/telling me... is it cocked? is it cocked? is it cocked? is the fucking hammer cocked?
when i graduated to a pump shotgun (held 6 rounds including one in the chamber) dad constantly was telling/asking me... is the safety on? is the safety on? is the safety on? is the fucking safety on?

hey, chad, is the gosh darn safety on? (he used the god damn word instead of gosh darn)

all this instilled into me on repeat so much it is incredible. all that and more. one of the most important things... always point guns away from people. the ground, the sky, anywhere but in the direction of another.
my grandpa harold would put a boot up my ass if i even for one second fucked around like a moron while messin with guns.

why can't everyone be taught this kinda stuff?
so now when i handle guns i know exactly what i am doing and check the safety and hammer @ a constant out of habit. the gun is never pointed in the direction of anyone, not ever. everything is slowed down and thought out and fulla safety techniques

i haven't hunted in 20 years. today i do not own a gun and haven't in at least 10 years.

OUTSTANDING! Awesome lessons to be learned by all. I especially like the part about everything being slowed down. It's always a great thought, concept or idea to slow things down when handling a gun,,,,never a good idea to handle a gun in a rush even in an emergency situation.

Almost the same in competition shooting I slow things down to shooting in between heart beats back 32 years ago. When i go shoot again I'll lucky JUST to hear my heart beat. :D

    Good stuff Chadwick.

    1. have you ever owned a gun?
    2. have you ever picked a gun up?
    3. have you ever fired a gun?
    4. do you know how to load & unload most guns?

    1. no not personally, but my dad had a couple of shotguns and a rifle.

2, yes, quite a few types. even unloaded they make me feel uneasy. i think it is the part that in the back of my mind tells me that i am immediately the most powerful person in that room since i have the gun, and i do not like feeling that way.

    3. yes, i have shot rifles, shotguns, a glock, a mac 10, and an ar-15. again, i just do not feel comfortable handling them, especially when loaded.

    4. i can load and unload the ones that i have fired. i have forgotten to take the round out of the chamber of the glock before though...

    you are the man, sir

and yes i agree with the .22 rifle target practicing bit. that is a fun time. and .22 shells are soo cheap you can go through hundreds of 'em and barely spend any money. however, the .22 is the most common gun used in murders. :(

yes or no answers and maybe short descriptions will do fine, thank you.

these things i learned at an early age. my family hunted when i was a kid. i learned gun safety from my grandfather and dad. grandpa (dad's dad) was a WWII army veteran who fought in the south pacific.

i think many believe a gun & bullets lying in the closet is insane and only asking for death and in a hurry. when in fact this is not the truth by any stretch of the imagination. safety, safety, safety.

after my swim i'll add a few more details. enjoy your days, fine people!

    4. do you know how to load & unload most guns? Any firearm I've ever chosen to handle, yes.

Not a fan of how that kid on the far right is holding that rifle. Is the muzzle pointed straight up at his face?

Overall I don't find the picture creepy per se, though I don't think it serves the pro-gun purpose to aggrandize gun ownership. "Hey look at me, I have guns, I'm tough" is a childish attitude that has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment.

There's a problem with pretty much everyone in that pic - grandma's on the left is pointing at grandma on the right; little girl looks like in addition to the rifle, she's got a handgun pointed at dad intent on keeping the little dude's voice high-pitched; great-grandma in the middle is pointed toward her jaw/the dude behind her.

    It's almost - almost! - hilarious.

I don't mean to evade your questions, Chadwick and apologize for my previous answer being a little off center (though it is a good story) but I feel compelled to answer your question with a question:

If gun owners are so afraid of having guns banned and/or taken away, why are they so quick to flagrantly admit to owning them or post pictures of themselves or their families with guns on the internet? This seems like a poor choice. If a person is focused on gun safety and is self aware enough to be responsible with something as dangerous as a gun I would think they would be discrete about it. I'm against guns because too many gun owners are irresponsible. If all the gun owners in the world were responsible and safe AND discrete about it, we wouldn't be having gun related discussions in the first place- or at the very least we would only be talking about flagrant violators. And I probably would be nearly concerned about those who do own guns. Just keep them out of my face- for God's sake... please.
