also, it shows just how confident the campaign is in this pick that they leaked it late at night on a friday and made the official announcement early saturday morning

 seriously, when has that ever happened before? it may be too early to call the Romney campaign dead in the water, but the one thing that could have breathed new life into it seems like it will fall flat.

it will be interesting to see how these numbers move in the coming days:

I'm not in any way gonna count out Romney, even though if you take a good look at him it's obvious he panders like a mofo like no other I've seen, looking at you Mass Healthcare plan.

The electoral college is a scam, and as long as its in place anything can happen.... And with bigtime $$ and the right negative story on your opponent within our 24 hr news cycle... It's a lose lose for the Average American

Why can't they just do a majority vote across the board and be done with it?

Even though I don't agree with Ryan on vittually anything, he's a strong candidate for their base. He might rub some independents the wrong way... But it doesn't matter if the base doesn't show up.

turns out 4 years ago...the obama campaign did the same
We’re seeing a lot of people ask this, so we’ll note: Joe Biden’s selection broke in the wee hours ahead of a Saturday morning roll-out too. The Ryan pick went public on Friday because reporters broke the story, which the campaign probably wanted them to so that Saturday’s roll-out would unfold as they’d planned. (Stories in the morning paper, etc.) The deal is you get two days of packed, enthusiastic campaign events because people don’t have to go to work—and then a running start going into the next week.

LESS INTERESTING PERSON THAN ROMNEY FOUND IN WISCONSIN
    Posted by Andy Borowitz

U.S.S. WISCONSIN (The Borowitz Report)—An exhaustive manhunt that took months and spanned the country came to a dramatic end today as a less interesting person than Mitt Romney turned up in Wisconsin.

On the deck of the U.S.S. Wisconsin, officials from the Guinness Book of World Records were on hand to certify the result of the search.

“This man is in fact the least interesting person in America,” one Guinness official said, adding that Mr. Romney himself had held that title since 1947.

Mr. Romney and the man made a joint appearance, after which the audience was advised not to operate heavy machinery.

The man of the hour used his brief remarks to lay out his vision of America, saying that billions of dollars could be saved by eliminating food, clothing, and shelter.

well that was due to mccain's campaign panicking over obama's celebrity...they wanted to make a big splash with that one

good point. and that big splash caused a tidal wave which later sunk the ship.

this is a shameless play to appease the teapartiers. the former governor of mass has gone way right with this pick....let's see how it works.

Just when we thought this party couldn't get any more extreme.

The Medicare thing is going to kill this ticket. Good - you reap what you sow.

ryan is flat-out scary. add to the medicare thing he's strongly anti-women, anti-gay, anti-environment, anti-planned parenthood, anti-heathcare, anti-public education, anti-animal welfare, against seperation of church & state...pro-gun, pro-punishment, pro-corperate, pro-war and favors sealing the borders are some of his extremist views.

seems as though by picking ryan, romney didn't just tie the pooch to the car roof this time... he screwed it

The interesting thing is, no one that has commented here would have said anything different no matter who he chose.

  • All kidding aside, this just solidifies my feeling that he doesn't want to win. He wants to become a darling of the extreme right wing Tea Bagger set and get Sarah Palin-size 7-figure speaking deals. Sell a few books and make some more money, eventually get a show on Fox News for a few more million per year.

There's no way that he can expect someone like Paul Ryan to do anything but turn off just about every demographic but rich, straight, christian, snobby white people.

i was thinking the same thing... he really doesn't want to be president.

even amongst those rich, straight, white christians...there's some ultra christians that won't vote for this ticket simply because romney is mormon & ryan is catholic

this is similar to the Dems decision to send John Kerry out there in 04. They had to have someone so vile to even their own base that he couldn't beat an unpopular president, but set the stage for Obama or Clinton in '08.

Democrats are getting too cocky about this. Paul Ryan has atrocious viewpoints, but he is a gifted politician who has won a Democrat-leaning district 7 straight times. People, this isn't Sarah Palin. He's not going to panic in a Katy Couric interview.

Obama campaign really needs to push the message of what's in that "marvelous" budget of his, and all other terrible things he supports.

putting aside cincy's Kreskin-like abilities ;) this pick raises questions for me...

has the gop given up on florida and the latino vote in general?

and i agree with rw, i think the gop is conceding this election...romney is not a strong leader or particularly good politician...by picking ryan, they are upping his cred for 2016 but this ticket won't win...then i don't think anyone they picked could get romney into office

i'm definitely not saying it's over by any stretch, but this seems really weird to have a guy so oppositional to Romney. Could have something up their shirts that I don't see though. Maybe it helps get the obviously large libertarian vote to get on board with Romney for prez?

It may help get the Libertarian leaning Republicans but not full on Libertarians such as myself.

Asuch as I hate to defend anything related to the guy, I don't agree with this. He's already got mountains of money. I think he's after the sense of ultimate power now. I have no clue how people are going to react to this choice.... but I never underestimate the ability of the right to continue being brainwashed.

Admittedly, I know little about Paul Ryan, but today I heard he sleeps in his congressional office. If that's true, that part .... there, that, that's pretty cool.

Otherwise, I don't know. Will be interesting. I don't see this swaying too many people.
