asked the victims of the DC sniper if having a gun made them feel safer? the reality is that having guns on the streets is not safe and having more people with guns is not safe.
The reality is that your examples are so deep into outlier territory that my attempt at humor seemed the most appropriate way to make the point. The University of Texas sniper? The DC sniper? Those aren't really the risks that most gun owners are trying to mitigate by carrying.
ok, but would you not then agree than that most gun owners don't assume that they should bring their guns to watch a movie then? I think most gun owners are trying to protect their homes i.e someone breaks into their homes and they want to protect themselves.

    Would you agree to that.

My advice is, instead of using the money on a gun, why not use it on a nice home theater system instead. The popcorn is cheaper, strangers cell phones wont go off, and you can fast-forward through the ads.

If any of you have had the honor of watching me play darts, pool or any game that requires aim or the use of motor skills you wouldn't want members of the general public to have access to guns.

But are they? How about anger management classes? I've had a few anger management clients tell me "it's a good thing I didn't have a gun."

There may be something to that. I swear you can tell a bit about someone's personality about the way they drive - how aggressive they are, their need for power and control on the road, etc.

And if you saw me drive, you really would not want me to have a gun ;)

the flashes coming from the murderers barrel would lead you in the right direction. trust me.

So... you just shoot in the direction of the flashes, right? Doesn't matter who crosses your path or what is beyond the target, right? Great.

It worked out because the cops caught the fucker.
Even if they were there... people would have still died because he opened fire without a warning. It would have been GREAT is he gave people the time to call 911 and waited for the police to arrive to make it a fair fight... but, he didn't.

The issue is they aren't, and the NRA would never allow that.

the issue is as far as I can work out that a lot of you in the states are more concerned with preserving the second amendment than preventing these shootings
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!

to be fair i don't think that is the case. I think what they are saying is that anything less than banning all guns will not solve this problem cause all it will do is get rid of guns for law abiding people and not for criminals cause they don't care about the law.

The scary thing is the large majority of them could legally own a gun. Very few of my anger management clients have a serious mental health history that would have been included in the database. I don't think any of these clients have ever been hospitalized for a mental health reason. Very few of them have a criminal record. Most of my private clients are referred by a family member or partner who *mandates* them to come out of concern. Most of the college students have campus hearing board charges, which are protected by FERPA and wouldn't be on record outside of the school, but few of them have criminal charges.

That's exactly it. A lot of people would freeze in a situation like this. So many trauma survivors beat themselves up after the fact for not reacting how they thought they would react in the face of danger. The *freeze* response is what triggers PTSD, and we know how prevalent that is.

I think they should get rid of 'Gun Free Zones'... like at schools... and banks... and airports... and Oakland Raiders games. You know, to make us all feel much safer.

And... how much GREATER would New Year's Eve in Times Square be with all of that celebratory gunfire at mid-night? Just like an Baghdad wedding... with 500,000 guests.
