I actually excited to see how this pitching staff will gel. Lester will win at least 15. I'm hoping to get 12-15 wins out of arrieta. 10 out of hammel and Hendricks?

    Heres a bet.

Ill bet you a dozen donuts and a cup of coffee.

I say Lester does not win 12 games.

For whatever reason, injury, the fact the Cubs suck, baseball season is cancelled due to frogs falling from the sky, etc.

I say Lester does not win 12 games.

You have a bet my friend.

    Hehehehe

    Deal.

Now remember, it doesn't matter what happens.

If he gets injured in Spring Training.

If he falls in to Montrose Harbor, while perch fishing.

If the new designed bleachers collapse on his head..

    Whatever.

    I say he doesn't win 12 games.

Mr. Lester is 0 for April with a 7.83 ERA

It's early and I'm still confident Lester can get 12 wins.

How incredible is it that the guy can't throw to first? How did no one know this?

That is unbelievable. No question that Theo should have known this going in. That's a big deal.

It is truly strange. Really strange. Unbelievable strange.

    But its perfect Cubdumb.

Lets give $150 million to a 10 year veteran pitcher, who cant throw a ball to 1st base to hold on a runner.

I can't believe that this hasn't become a story until now. How did this not come out at all during his time in Boston???

I was supposed to go to the Iowa Cubs season opener tomorrow night but I won't be able to make it. Hopefully I can get to a game before Bryant gets called up. April 30th is Kris Bryant jersey shirt so I'll have to go to that game!

With lastella on the DL, the cubs may be forced to call him up. I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened yet
  • HesCalledDyerHesCalledDyer Posts: 16,433
Tomorrow is the first day he can be called up re: the terms of service "loophole." I believe they recalled Rosscup to take LaStella's place on the roster but that leaves them short on infielders, as Zac's a pitcher. I wouldn't be surprised if they keep him down for the Padres series and perhaps call him up against the Bucs next week. And shit, I just realized that series is in Pittsburgh. I might have to go if they give him the call!

I cannot wait to see what Bryant can do at the big league level.

The amount of pressure that is going to be on him will be unreal.

    Well, this is it.

    High Holy Day at Wrigley.
    This is Theo's big moment.

Kris Bryant is headed to the Big Leagues.

When is the last time the Cubs had a stud of this caliber show up to the Big Leagues?

    Banks
    Williams
    Santo?

Even more recent, Kerry Wood and Mark Prior maybe?

Speaking of Mark Grace, pitchers, and the Cubs... David Ross (as a Dodger) hit his first career HR off Grace (as a Dback) when Mark pitched an inning of relief during a 19-1 shellacking of the rattlesnakes.

Anthony rizzo may be the answer to your question speedy. When he was called up, I remember thinking that he was going to be a cub savior. To bad you need pitching help too.

Yeah I was going to mention Grace, but Grace wasn't expected to do what is expected of this kid. But yeah I guess Grace was a hell of a ballplayer. And those other 3 I could have mentioned, but I was going with non pitchers.

But who could forget Kerry Wood? Those 20 strikeouts in only his 4th or 5th start? And then it all went downhill. Same with Prior. 18-6, 5 outs from the World Series, and then his career quickly fell apart.

They are looking at Bryant to become the next Mickey Fucking Mantle.

  • I got a twenty that Bryant doesn't even get to 23 homers this season. Spring training doesn't count. Pitchers didn't scout him or even tried to be careful how they pitched to him as they are working on mechanics and location rather than results. Now that the games count they will find the holes in his swing and will exploit them. If he is going to be as good as everyone thinks he has to learn to adjust to how they pitch to him. He hasn't had to do that yet and takes time. I don't care how good he might be he is still a rookie. I predict a .220 average with 20 bombs. There will be a few monster homers that remind everyone what he can be. He just isn't there yet.

I hope the kid bats .300 with 30 bombs.

.220 is way low. He may not get 23 HRs, but he'll hit well over .220. My guess is in the .280 range. I'm not comparing him to Mike Trout, but when you have that kind of raw talent, scouting doesn't do any good. The one thing that I've seen he needs to work on is his plate discipline. He strikes out a little more than I think he should. But I'm a fan, I don't want to see any ks.

Do you have Extra Innings? Otherwise no unless it is a national game.

Looks like it's broadcasted locally on ABC 7.
I should have signed up for MLB.TV.
