No it's not.... you know... 'mental illness' and 'crime' go hand in hand. If we got rid of mental illness, we would get rid of crime/gun crime. Lax guns laws and extreme ease for anyone to get guns is not the problem - mental illness is.

    ;)

Sorry some here can not see the connection between mental issues and crime

I think it has something to do with being a gun opponent

Clouds the mind to the real issues as to why people are violent with guns...
the guns aren't firing themselves  sometimes something so simple is missed.
yes - I can see it in the 3-5% in which it's a factor
We have a much different opinion as to what crime is
and what mental issues are that cause them.

See it really doesn't matter cause it's happening...
    boy is it happening.

There's the gun opponent blindness again at work.

never tried them just like you...

I'll take BJ's word for it though :D
no...insinuating your thought processes on this subject are the same as one who is under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs. Hey.. google it.

MENTAL ILLNESS DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY LEAD TO CRIME. DAMN.

ok... the constitution was written september 17th 1787 in philadelphia. back then these old ass white men with white wigs used single shot black powder rifles, sure they had black powder pistols too. they wrote the constitution around those style of weapon not assault rifles, no. not automatic firearms, no. not bazookas, no.
it is inaccurate and not the same ballpark when comparing 1787 with 2012. do the math

2012 - 1787 = 225 years worth of time, energy, technological breakthroughs with armory designed to kill and used for war, conquering, protection... yes, and a lot of bullshit like murdering animals to extinction in the name of trophy hunting as well as the onslaught of the north american buffalo to starve the indigenous peoples of this land.

glocks? yeah get em fired up, grandma. the indians are invading the fort. uzi 9mm? rat-a-tat-tat. how about long distance killers for offing elephant and rhinoceros like our pal uncle ted

kaboom. dead critter. get the ivory.

black powder rifles took 97 minutes to lock and load. one shot, one kill...or miss, blind ass caveman

The best is coming out in you I see...
this is the pack syndrome... google it ;)

and no they won't help people with mental issues

Medicaid is unavailabe to most single young men in their 20's

wow how many years did you say ? :fp:
um, no, it's not 'pack syndrome', but I think you mean 'crowd' syndrome, or the bystander effect---and, again, you are totally wrong. And I didn't need to google it. 8 years I said, and 8 years it is. And I think YOU should google it. And the best is coming out in me in terms of standing up for the people for whom I went to school to defend (the mentally ill).. not just get on a website and put other people down who are actually educated in same. And I say again... you never answered my question regarding a resolution.. and the best is coming out in you insofar as questioning someones' knowledge (not just mine, but others). Medicaid is unavailable to MOST adults who don't have children Pandora..do some research.
nope I meant pack alright

That's what I said not available...

I guess you didn't get the reference as far as young men in their 20's...

I know you didn't take much time with the heartbreaking real life scenario
    or answer the questions...
    or did I miss them?

Just sayin'... you might be better off explaining all that stuff to your cat.

a cat could pick it up quicker
I think the cat references are among the best parts of this thread (although I still have five pages to read).

I'm just glad I'm home and self-medicating for my back. It'll make the viewing that much more....entertaining?

No...interesting. OK, entertaining too. Fuckit, it's Friday.

But really, I'm loving the salient points made here.

Oh you mean acid... now you''re talking ;) I know a little about this from the 70's

    How about you ...

but no this is nothing like that this is a serious social problem
with needs that should be addressed
to better help people to live happy and fulfilled lives,
not sink deeper into a vacuums where violence is the answer to frustration and loneliness.

    That sounds nothing like acid...
we'll maybe a very bad trip with some real square pegs about ;)

whatever. Really. You have missed my question now for about 20 freaking posts...WHAT IS YOUR SOLUTION?? How about we get an answer to that..
And Pandora, I have had extended personal contact with an individual who shot up the UNC-CH campus in the late 90s (no names mentioned).. and he is a diagnosed schizophrenic who never sought treatment because he didn't think he had a problem. You are so off base it's not even funny, but yet I am laughing. I am done wasting my time on you. This is 30 minutes of my life I won't get back trying to argue with someone who lives on Jupiter.

Um I did acid ONCE in 1992 and I hated it and I'm not sure what the hell this has to do with anything because I thought it was covered with the mushroom thing. acid and shrooms are both hallucinogens.

Though this thread is quite compulsive in a weird kind of way (CBG.. think I need a session too), I must get a bit of sleep. It's midnight here and I have to get up at 5.00am to go to WORK where I will do a full working day. Then I will come home and do the weekly shop, tidy the house, care for my husband and geting things ready for him to visit his parents, do some laundry, cook dinner (then tidy that up), etc. Fuck.. and tomorrow is Saturday and it's going to be a beautiful, sunny day... I'm afraid I will not have time to do volunteer work tomorrow though - I hope you can understand. I won't even have time for shoe shopping (unless I find some cheap ones at the supermarket :? ).

Good continuation all. Maybe this thread will still be going by the morning, maybe it will be dead... What a thing to ponder about.
