I watched the first season but then it fell off my radar. Not because it isn't a great show. It really is. I think it was because I found it stressful, lol. This show on top of all the real news bullshit was too much for me at times. I found myself getting frustrated with the issues the show brings up so well. Since this shit is already on my mind a lot, I think the show overloaded me, lol. But i should go back and start again and watch all of it. Just have to remember to keep my zen. :P

it's back. thought the 1st episode of the season last night was great. so much happened in a short period of time. going to be interesting to see how they do everything in six episodes.

First episode definitely set up the storylines for the rest of the series. Financial take over really surprised me but i kinda hope Rese (sp?) loses the compnay haha. I knew Neils charge from the commercials, but thought he did it voluntarily, not accidentaly; definitely buts a different tone on the situation. I'm glad Maggie seems to be doing better.
I hope the relationship storylines aren't 'tv-perfect', if you know what i mean.

    Run

Great episode. I actually watched it twice in a row because i was so blown away/wanted to catch what i missed.
I was so mad at Maggie for backing down. While I initially thought that eavesdropping is wrong, I think that in a public place that is perfectly acceptable. I applaud Neal, although I would never have let that story seen the light of day; guess im not a true journalist. I think Kat Dennings makes a great 'villian' for a hostile take over. So far I like this season more than last season!

thought it was a really good episode as well. and agree on Kat Dennings. i think even Reese has been likeable this season so far. Don went from my least favorite character in season 1 to one of my favorites now. One underrated part of the story was Jim kind of inferring in the bar his girlfriend (forget her name) planted the tweet on purpose to 'get back' at ACN.

i know it would never happen but would love to see the show end with Neal going to prison at Leavenworth. Be an interesting way to end it.

Yeah, Jim and Hailey. I thought firing her was a little over-reactive.... but i guess that's the business rules of media?
You are right about Reese and Don. Sorkin really wrote this whole season so that everyone is on ACN's side, against the world.

I agree that would be a good ending, but I hope that doesn't happen to Neal because I like his character. I have a bad feeling that they will end with Mac and Will's wedding... The way I can see it ending, is cutting back and forth between the some JIm/Maggie and Sloan/Don storylines, ACN's hostile takeover, ending the same day as Neal etting thrown into prison, and the Genoa trial ruling, and the wedding. The only question is which way(positive/negative for who) each storyline will go and how that affects the overall feeling of the finale.

    Can't wait for next episode!

thought last night's episode and the quicky wedding was kind of weak. i have no idea where this ends up now. isn't it only 2 more episodes?

I was thinking last night was the finale for a minute there. Yeah, didn't like last night as much as others. Really not a fan of the kid from the Office buying ACN. His character is corny. Also the HR guy playing a game was dumb.

agree on both. forgot about the HR guy saying it was a joke. wasted about 10 minutes on the previous episodes on this to just end up being haha funny? stupid.

and Jim became a dick this season.

Yeah, agreed on Jim. The wife commented about how unlikable he is now and did a complete 180.

Was not a big fan of this episode for some reason. The whole Jim and Maggie thing is so fucking old. That said, the conversation don had with the rape victim and the interview you posted was also great.

Did not like the jail scenes either
  • FrankieGFrankieG Posts: 9,100
I liked this episode more than the last one, but it did seem to kinda drown on in themiddle there. Overall I think it was good, had alot to digest.
Yeah, the Jim Maggie thing is old, we all know how that's gonna end.
Don's conversation was very informative/eye opening. I'm glad that they aren't going to be doing the on air interview, I could see Sorkin writing it completely for the reaction of the accused winning.
When I found out the ACNgage app interview was real, I couldn't believe it was real. I'm glad they tried to keep that word for word as it really shows how messed up some companies can be.
I actually liked the jail scene. It took me way too long for me to realize that they cellmate wasn't really there and that it was Will's imagination of his dad.... but I think that internal struggle really humanizes Will. It also made me realize that I would never be able to handle jail, probably. :))
I literally gasped with horror at the #urACN commercial..
Still don't know how I feel about Charlie... I guess we should have seen it coming. :(

didn't realize the guy in his cell was his dad until the last scene where he takes the picture down and it is the guy in the cell.

Don interviewing the girl and Sloane ripping apart the app guy were great. they've really gotten into making social commentary in this season regarding how the internet especially is being used in negative ways. i like it.

was stunning to see Charlie go down. didn't expect that.

yea jim and maggie has been a drain since season 1.

i figure next week will be a let down. not sure where they are going to end it with. last night almost seemed like the end to me.

Yeah, I didn't realize the guy in the cell was his Dad until he took the picture down too.....my brain must have had trouble processing everything in this episode.

Was so bummed about Charlie...he was prob my fav character on the show!

Can't believe there's only 1 episode left. Really wish they would have had more than 6 episodes for this last season.

I didn't realize it was his dad either.

The Charlie thing is a bummer and he was definitely my favorite, but how he died was pretty corny. Not the biggest fan of how this show is going out, but enjoyed it overall.

Sorkin answered quesions submitted on the HBO GO App: http://connect.hbo.com/events/the-newsroom/5-questions-aaron-sorkin-S3/

    The main Q/A worth noting:
    mmockolate
Such an emotional episode! Thank you Aaron for this amazing show. Why did you think it was important to have one of the main characters die this season?
    Aaron Sorkin says:
Thanks for the subtle reference to one of my favorite scenes on Friends. I needed to have Charlie die so that I could write the series finale I wanted to. You'll see next week. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

    Very curious what that means...

Also curious about how many loose ends he will answer/not answer.. GENOA being my main one. And has that AP reporter that they gave the classified documents to reported the 38 dead?

I mostly enjoyed it... Definitely didnt love it. I think I am just disappointed it didn't end with an inspiring montage w/ music, the "good evening" thing I thought was lame..
Also didn't like the song in the garage, thought that was wasted time.
I did like the flashbacks to before the first episode filling in everything. I also liked the whole thing about Sloan/Don feeling guilty/at fault for killing Charlie and the way they were dealing with the guilt.
I think there was potential for another season...

i enjoyed the final but a few things did bother me about it.
1 - of course the whole Jim and Maggie portion. man they were so annoying
2 - the limo scene with Don, Sloane and Will i thought was acted way too laid back and cavalier. i'm thinking if you thought you helped drive a man die of a heart attack you'd be a little more upset and less casual about telling how you may have done it.
3 - annoys me when everything always works out for everyone. would have been nice if something wasn't so clean and everyone didn't get what they wanted at the end. that's just me though.

  • did not like the spontaneous jam session in the middle of the garage. i thought it was stupid. as if all of those people were going to show up at the exact time, and all of them were going to know the song. having been in bands for 20 years, that scene was a perfect example of what never, ever happens. even when you tell your established band what song to know, at no time ever has everyone shown up knowing it...

    sorry, rant over.

People also don't talk like they do in the newsroom either but I always enjoyed that.

Yeah the jam session was kind of cheesy but a lot of shows don't provide a ton of closure when they wrap up. I liked they kind of let you know where everyone was headed.

    Neil?

Was it me or was there not really much when he came back? (besides him with the people who ran the website)
