There are moments when the dialog and the show are brillant. I've watched every episode because when it is good it is really good.

what i don't like is it seems to lean towards bashing republicans or conservatives. Now i'm a libearl, but if you are going to do a news show about the "real news" lets show both sides screwing up.

That i can let go, but for as many times as they hit a great moment there are parts that annoy the shit out of me.
I don't thin it is realistic for the anchor guy to be able to pull it together so quickly when 10 minutes before he was stone out of his gord. That annoys me.

some of the situations are unrealistic in my mind. What adult has a drag out argumetn with their gf at their place of work? What news anchor who is in trouble with the tabloids and trying ot keep it clean brings outa bag of pot brownies in the middle of a party with all of his workers.

The dialogue between maggie and her little boy crush is cringe worthy at times :?

It has good parts but it never seems to pull it all together.I think the closest they came was two episodes ago. I thought that was teh best one so far.

I'll watch the entire season to see if they find themselves because there is some good stuff here, but i'm not holding my breath.

You summed it up really well. There are some cringe-worthy moments, but also some great ones.

Great point about the drag out arguments. In one of the last episodes we watched a couple of people were having a huge argument in the newsroom and I rewound the show to point out the people in the background just working away! People are screaming at each other five feet away and these background people are just working like it's normal. (Which in this place, it kind of is!)

The show is getting better for me though. It's Sorkin so I will watch it for its whole run. I doubt he will ever reach the level he was at with The West Wing, but it's still fun watching him try.

There are a lot of "this would never happen in real life" moments...but it is a television show. Without some sort of dramatic turn, it wouldn't be as interesting.

I hope support for this show continues. I was a big fan of "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip"...unfortunately, it never caught on.

I totally agree with this. You definitely need to combine all of the extreme situations to make a good tv show. If my life was a tv show, nobody would watch

That being said, Sorkin (and the director and producer) does combine all of the aspects and storylines very well. I have to imagine the season ender will be the firing of Will..

Having worked at an NBC affiliate for 9 years with my wife, who was a producer, I can tell you their NEWSROOM is much more interesting than an actual newsroom.

What a fantastic episode last night (Blackout Pt 1) - I was so pissed when the credits came up
I love this show, Sorkin's writing is fast paced and this show makes you think.
Sunday night TV is awesome again (I never thought I'd say that after Sopranos ended) - Breaking Bad and Newsroom make for a super 1-2 punch!
This is 3 super solid episodes in a row now - and just a few to go!

Yeah, can't believe there's only 2 more eps left! Last night definitely solidified Charlie as my favorite character on the show. He's got a major struggle going on...trying to please Leona while keeping Will at the helm of the show. I'm excited to see where the NSA storyline is going to go. My only complaint about last night's episode? Not enough Jim

    best episode of the season!

    why?

Just finished Blackout pt 1. Holy shit! Best episode yet. I really loved the Bin Laden episode, but this one really is over the top. Genius how it's put together.

I want to watch the next episode asap, because that cliff hanger was awesome. I'm sure the season ender will be a bigger cliff hanger though.

What episode do you think ACN will unleash the wire taping thing?

Anyone else catch Blackout Part 2?

I didn't think they would drop the debate from ACN. That was a surprise.. But I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Will gets fired in the season finally and then comes back to do the debate when the company realizes they need him.

Also, I felt like this episode ended on a calmer not, with some of the storlines being foreshadowed how they will end up. (MAggie finding out about hte flowers, Jim going to Maggies apartment, Will and the therapist.)

It was pretty much the perfect episode to lead into the finale. So they can totally leave every single storyline wide open with the huge cliffhanger for use to wait til next year to watch...

I caught it. I thought it was really bad. The only bright part was Sloan saying, "Me? Fuck you?" I was hoping that would turn it around, but then Mac had her embarrassing screaming fit.

Hopefully the finale will be better.

Season finale tonight - knowing Sorkin, this will be a raging show with all of the storylines crashing together...
Looking forward to it - kind of became appointment TV (along with Breaking Bad) this summer...

Agreed. The Newsroom is an idealistic take on what a news organization "SHOULD" look and act like, not what it actually is (which trust me...I worked in a newsroom for years and it's not necessarily boring, but it sure as shit wouldn't make for an intersting television show) . People didn't say the same shit about The West Wing which was an idealistic look at the White House, not a realistic one. I think most of the bad reveiws and bad press comes from the fact that the show is taking shots at most of the people who own and run the places where the show is being reveiwed. This is a great show.

So any reviews from the finale? I thought - as always - it was great. Witty, funny, dramatic, yet poignant. I'm glad that Sloan isn't leaving and I LOVED the end scenario with them at the table with Fiona and her son. Totally nailed his ass! Glad the gossip queen deleted Will's high message, but I was hoping that she would forward it to Mac first. Oh well.

And the Maggie and Jim storyline is finally done for me. It's just going to play back and forth forever and I'm irritated as hell with it.

I love how he tied it all up with the 'sorority girl' applying for an internship. So bummed we have to wait a year to see new stuff :(

saw this on twitter last night...

Final 'Newsroom' was a perfect summation of the entire season. Some parts are brilliant (politics), others drive me batty (dating).

pretty much sums it up for me...the railing against the tea party and the phone hacking plot were great!

really don't give a shit about maggie and jim or don or a house plant...and wtf all of the sudden don and sloan have a thing for each other? c'mon aaron, this isn't 'days of our lives'

I hated it. I was looking at the clock waiting for it to end. The Sex and the City part with Maggie getting splashed and then yelling might be the worst scene I've ever seen.

Thinking back there were 2~3 good episodes. (rudy one, the one after, and the Bin Laden one)

I'll watch next season hoping Sorkin can get it together, but I don't hold out hope. Those last few episodes were embarrassing.

I watched Newsroom each Sunday eve to be entertained...
The romantic BS between Maggie/Jim & Don was nonsense and stupid (IMO)...
There were SUPER moments to this show throughout the season and I am so glad its being picked up for another year...
Loved Charlie - last nights episode in particular there were quite a few great moments:
Charlie finding out Hancock committed suicide -(powerful reaction and acting job)
Jane Fonda's character realizing she had been had -
Will unplugging the IV and getting back to work -
The girl from the first episode audience coming to work for Will -

DISLIKED the Sex and the City stuff, Sloan revealing a crush on Don..., wanted to see Reese get arrested or something too (he got off way too easy for such a hideous crime) I felt like I was robbed of a good 20 mins last night - now we gotta wait a year

I read today the whole season was in the can before the 1st episode even aired - Sorkin couldn't adjust, re-edit anything. Hopefully he continues on the powerful messaging and leaves the romance crap out of it...
Great show with room for improvement

It's pretty sad when Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Aaron Sorkin report more accurate and factual news than Fox, MSNBC, and CNN.

 I really wish more people would see this point.

I loved the final episode. I really didn't have any expectations going in and I can definitely say that it was one of the best episodes. I got so into it and excited when they played Baba O'riley and Will was getting back to work.
I love how they are hiring the girl that asked the first question at the university. I think Will is really going to make her great.
Jim is too nice of a guy... Alot of people are hating on this storyline but I like it.
I thought the telephone hacking meeting was cleverly setup and Charlie is such a great actor.

I wish NewsNight 2.0 with Will was a real show. If they actually wrote a real news show the same way as the one in the show then I would watch it everyday. No garbage. Actual questions with actual intelligent responses. America needs a real life Will Mcavoy.

Been away from the board for a while, came back to see this thread.

Glad y'all have pretty much summed up my feelings on this show.

When it's about the news, incorporating fictional drama into real life past events, sprinkling in some sobering facts all within a newsroom setting ... show was fantastic.

All the romantic bullshit surrounding it ... complete, vomit inducing nonsense. A little would have been fine, but it was a non-stop series of Three's Company-esque misunderstandings, all season long.

Hoping this is the feedback they are receiving and taking in for season 2.

During the finale, I was more aware than usual of just how similar "Jim Harper" is to "Jim Halpert."

Jim and Maggie of "The Newsroom" are NOT Jim and Pam of "The Office."

Love this show. Cant wait til the new season starts. The opening scene was AMAZING. He basically took everything I think but couldnt put into words and articulated it perfectly.

Also having Olivia Munn on the show ensures that I will watch every week regardless. :D
