yeah the bigfoot thing was forced but that's one of sorkins plot devices for character development and in this case to get everyone in on a saturday so they would all be there for the giffords shooting...it reminded me of big block of cheese day from the west wing...just some nonsense that furthers the plot

I've been watching the past couple of weeks and I really enjoy the show. Thought it might be in trouble because of the some of the early negative reviews, but I think HBO has already picked it up for a second season.

I knew the woman who plays Mack sounded familiar...she voiced "Holly Shiftwell" in Cars 2. After having to watch that 15 times, you tend to pick out voices.

You have to be an HBO subscriber, but it's actually pretty cool. Damn near everything HBO has ever done is up there. Sorry FrankieG

I keep saying to myself, "I'm gonna go on demand and start watching it so I can catch up and watch it when the episodes air." I have yet to do this. This is what happens when I have 2 seasons worth of "Cheers" and the first season of "The Larry Sanders Show" on the DVR. Way behind on my show watching.

I will eventually start watching "The Newsroom".

    hmmm...
Aaron Sorkin has been doing press all week defending his critically-panned HBO show, “The Newsroom,” but behind the scenes he's cleaning house.

Most of the writers on the cable drama about a Keith Olbermann-type television news demagogue have been fired, sources with knowledge of the show told The Daily. "They're not coming back, except for Sorkin's ex-girlfriend [Corinne Kinsbury]," one source said. [Sorkin is currently dating "Sex and the City" actress Kristin Davis.]

The show was renewed early for a second season and it's unclear how many writers will replace the departing staff.

In the mostly collaborative world of TV, Sorkin is famously known for penning most the scripts himself, and "The Newsroom" had a smaller writers' room than most TV shows with less than 10 credited writers. It's not uncommon on other TV series run by powerful showrunners to turn over staff.

"Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner is known to replace scripters every season, sometimes right after they turn in an episode.

“I create these shows so that I can write them,” Sorkin told Vanity Fair in the May issue. “I’m not an empire builder. I’m not interested in just producing. All I want to do is write. I came up as a playwright — writing is something you do by yourself in a room."

“That said, I couldn’t possibly write the show without that room full of people. I go in there, and we kick around ideas. I’m writing about all kinds of things I don’t know anything about. So they do research for me,” the Oscar-winner added.

A rep for HBO told The Daily, "Every year each show reassesses the needs of its writing staffs. This process is nothing out of the ordinary."

So far I love this show. Hope they keep the pace the same. I like how it rolls right along. I can see last weeks horrific shooting in CO as a plot in the show in the next season or two like the gulf oil spill and the AZ shooting has been.

Another fantastic episode yesterday. It's so fast-paced and the writing is incredibly witty. I seriously cannot think of a better show on the air right now!

Watched the first 4 of the past 4 days. #5 gonna watch before the Olympic ceremony tonight.

I have loved the setup so far. Very well written, very well shot, edited, acted, etc

I have the feeling that Will will get fired eventually. And then hire his entire team to produce an internet version of his current show. But that's just my gut feeling. Proabably not gonna happen...

But I wish I hadn't have found that link! I can't wait for this weekend's episode to be posted :D haha

Anyone catch last night's episode? Seriously, this show gets better EVERY week. I thought it was brilliant...just brilliant. When Don was raving on the plane and the captain came out...wow...that moment gave me the chills.

    Well done HBO!

:lol: It's amazing how they have such heavy subject matter at times, yet they're able to work in some pretty good comedy...the whole Don, Maggie, and Jim love triangle is pretty good!

I kinda missed some of Charlie's conversation in the beginning so I'm not 100% clear on what that whole phone call business was...will have to do a rewatch.

multiple watched is a must...the "deep throat" character was establishing his credibility by letting charlie knew he knew about obl...at the end he called again and he has information on the acm hacking phones on their own people (a la news corp hacking scandal)

My wife and I are big Sorkin fans (her friends call us Whorkins :)), so obviously we were excited about this show. I wasn't feeling it at the beginning and thought the 4th episode (coldplay at the end) was really bad. We had the next couple of episodes on DVR for awhile because we just weren't feeling it. Last Thursday we had a free night and decided to watch it and we really loved the last two episodes (5 and 6) so much that we watched the Bin Laden episode last night.

It definitely seems to be finding it's stride.

SO great to have Sunday nights be must see TV - 'Breaking Bad' @ 7 then 'Newsroom' @ 8 - so awesome.
This show has absolutely been awesome, last nights episode was brilliant, and imo the best one. Funny, heart-wretching, edge of your seat stuff from the get go. Sorkin at his best, for sure.
Cannot wait for the next 3 episodes - there are some serious things going down! (Will in the hospital bed, Jane Fonda telling Will he's fired, etc...)
I just hope the love stories don't take away from the heart and fast pace of this show. (ie Jim & Maggie nonsense)...
'Sex and the City' sucked when it turned into Big/Carrie drama...I don't want this show to suffer that way :nono:

  • great episode last night. i can't believe that in the show a year has already passed. i loved will being out of his head  it was also cool to see the reactions of the 2 cops, the crew of the plane, and the lady who lost her dad in the wtc. i rarely think of 9/11 from the perspective of the people directly impacted by it so that was a nice touch from sorkin.

hey guys, is it just me, or if maggie looked at me the way she looks at jim i would melt....

Just watched episode 7 last night. I loved how Sorkin creates these perfect situations for these characters. The breaking news happening at a party after Will got stoned and the other anchors were on a plane. Sorkin was able to really illustrate the many different meanings that killing osama really meant: to reporters, american public, the pilots, people who loved someone who died, cops, the control room fire fighter, the bodyguard MP. It was a very special moment in the series.

the 2 last episodes, bullies and the bin laden one have been fantastic. bin laden one gave me chills and honestly a few tears (anything 9/11 related gets to me - and i was at the Mets-Phillies game that night that Jim was watching on the internet. youtube the reaction of fans at that game when word spread if you haven't seen it before, awesome to be in public that night).

this show has gotten better and better with each episode as character's have developed. Jeff Daniels is just great. Really starting to enjoy Don and Jim's characters. Maggie is incredibly annoying.

I will have to to youtube that. I was in my apartment and didn't get to see everyone's reactions. I guess that's why this episode really hit me harder than when it was actually announced.

Anyone know why the bin laden apisode is titled "5/1"? Usually the reason for the title is obvious halfway through, but all i can think of for this on would be Charlie going against 5 people saying that they should let Obama announce it first. (When I first saw the title I immediately thought of Animal :) )

this show has gotten better and better with each episode as character's have developed. Jeff Daniels is just great. Really starting to enjoy Don and Jim's characters. Maggie is incredibly annoying.

Maggie is incredibly annoying. I was shocked when someone said she was hot. Lisa is a lot hotter.

Her boyfriend, Don? is also annoying.

There are moments when the dialog and the show are brillant. I've watched every episode because when it is good it is really good.

what i don't like is it seems to lean towards bashing republicans or conservatives. Now i'm a libearl, but if you are going to do a news show about the "real news" lets show both sides screwing up.

That i can let go, but for as many times as they hit a great moment there are parts that annoy the shit out of me.
I don't thin it is realistic for the anchor guy to be able to pull it together so quickly when 10 minutes before he was stone out of his gord. That annoys me.

some of the situations are unrealistic in my mind. What adult has a drag out argumetn with their gf at their place of work? What news anchor who is in trouble with the tabloids and trying ot keep it clean brings outa bag of pot brownies in the middle of a party with all of his workers.

The dialogue between maggie and her little boy crush is cringe worthy at times :?

It has good parts but it never seems to pull it all together.I think the closest they came was two episodes ago. I thought that was teh best one so far.

I'll watch the entire season to see if they find themselves because there is some good stuff here, but i'm not holding my breath.
