325+ posts….. one person falling back on appeals to pathos time and again…..vs the entire forum on one side, making logical, fact-based points…..and Not. One. Single. Fucking. Point. Conceded. SHOCKING. Eventually someone will get tired of it and make a personal comment, and SOMEONE will run to the mods. Mission accomplished. It’s really, really dragged this place down over the past few months. Every thread devolving into a masturbatory exercise in contrarian trolling. Joy.
Now…lets see if I get in shit for personal comments by saying ‘one person’, instead of ‘some’……apparently, when trolling, it’s best to be vague.
There's the humour this thread consistently brings to the table.

So this would be humor at the expense of one person or a few then, right?
We know who finds that funny don't we?
 Wow... how many pages and still not seeing the 'reality'? Latching on to one bit of string, not seeing it's a bit of a frayed bit of rope. No further 'discussion' really necessary.
And by the way, I was responding to your post about cyber security, commenting on how this doesn't stop what you focus on. You, once again, responded with your blinkers.
Some people...? I think looking at the bigger and whole picture of the implications of this bill is a lot more useful to the plight of others than wearing blinkers.
blinkers :wtf: isn't that car turn signals? look out I'm turning left here...
must be blinders here in the states... funny
I got the cyber security and how you think this proposal will compromise that
which for me means additional fine tuning in the law is necessary. I just ignored that part
because I have stated before I want more regulation! A much safer environment.
But the nasties was perfect... remembering the words of bullies, this exactly what this proposal
is all about. Perfectly stated... you did.

Actually I don't....yes I thought what he said was funny to me. You might not but I do. Am I being mean and unkind in this instance?
Now you can make a valid comment on my earlier post on curbing cyberbullying as it has been made of great importance in this thread...
Some Tips On Cyber Bullying:
Don’t respond. If someone bullies you, remember that your reaction is usually exactly what the bully wants. It gives him or her power over you. Who wants to empower a bully?
Don’t retaliate. Getting back at the bully turns you into one and reinforces the bully’s behavior. Help avoid a whole cycle of aggression.
Save the evidence. The only good news about digital bullying is that the harassing messages can usually be captured, saved, and shown to someone who can help. You need to do this even if it’s minor stuff, in case things escalate.
Talk to a trusted adult. You deserve backup. It’s always good to involve a parent but – if you can’t – a school counselor usually knows how to help. Sometimes both are needed. If you’re really nervous about saying something, see if there’s a way to report the incident anonymously at school.
*Block the bully*. If the harassment’s coming in the form of instant messages, texts, or profile comments, do yourself a favor: Use preferences or privacy tools to block the person. If it’s in chat, leave the “room.”
Be civil. Even if you don’t like someone, it’s a good idea to be decent and not sink to the other person’s level. Also, research shows that gossiping about and trash talking others increases your risk of being bullied. Treat people the way you want to be treated.
Don’t be a bully. How would you feel if someone harassed you? You know the old saying about walking a mile in someone’s shoes; even a few seconds of thinking about how another person might feel can put a big damper on aggression. That’s needed in this world.
Be a friend, not a bystander. Watching or forwarding mean messages empowers bullies and hurts victims even more. If you can, tell bullies to stop or let them know harassment makes people look stupid and mean. It’s time to let bullies know their behavior is unacceptable – cruel abuse of fellow human beings. If you can’t stop the bully, at least try to help the victim and report the behavior.
All can be done safely, effectively without this TUPID proposal. There's no need to have such a broad base law to to TRY and curb cyberbullying or any other internet abuse those steps above can and will be FAR more effective than this dream world proposal will ever accomplish.

Personally, I think this bill is being suggested because the Identity Theft lobby wants more opportunities to sell us protection for our identities. (not totally serious there but you never know) It's not enough that I have to shred all that junk mail that comes in, if this bill were to pass everywhere, I'd have to pay insurance to protect myself. It's not bad enough that some loony PJ fan sent me a death threat; if this were to pass, I might be more likely to have them appear on my doorstep. They could vandalize where I live or whatever.
I believe in personal privacy for everyone. There are plenty of laws to deal with crummy people and their rotten kids already. (bullies)

I don't want this to get blown up out of proportion. This is why I believe in privacy, that's all. Thanks.
And now for something completely different... a little English lesson...
blinker
noun
blinker pronunciation English ˈblɪŋkə(r) blinker pronunciation American ˈblɪŋkər
blinkers (North American English also blinders) [plural] pieces of leather that are placed at the side of a horse's eyes to stop it from looking sideways: (figurative) We need to have a fresh look at the plan, without blinkers (= we need to consider every aspect of it).
blinker (n.)
1630s, "one who blinks," agent noun from blink (v.). As a type of horse eye screen to keep the animal looking straight ahead, from 1789. Slang meaning "the eye" is from 1816. Meaning "intermittent flashing light" is from 1923.

Add: You would be put under the gun to reveal our names and home addresses if someone decides that we are being mean to them and bullying them. You (the Pearl Jam Board Operations) would likely be held responsible and accountable and open to legal action if someone gets a member's home address from here, goes to that address and does them harm.
Right?

Hail, Hail!!!
That is terrible and very scary Kat I'm sorry this happened to you,
I know others also.
I have been researching cyber bullies and their handiwork, something needs to be done
to stop this for sure. The laws in place are not enough, as it is escalating.
Its a mean world out there... is it getting meaner?
And fear and public humiliation the biggest weapon and control the bully has over us.
In this proposal no one would have to post their info to the public, that is optional.
Only if it was requested to keep a post up.
It seems it would not affect mods or administrators but those commenting.
lt also said commenting forums could be a thing of the past  uh oh
"A web site administrator upon request shall remove any comments posted on his or her web site by an anonymous poster unless such anonymous poster agrees to attach his or her name to the post and confirms that his or her IP address, legal name, and home address are accurate. All web site administrators shall have a contact number or e-mail address posted for such removal requests, clearly visible in any sections where comments are posted."
The upon request I guess means administrators/mods would be very busy
deleting anonymous posts if they were slanderousand it was requested by the victim.
My hope is it would in general deter slanderous posts and bullying
as the post would just come down.
..........if this bill were to pass everywhere, I'd have to pay insurance to protect myself. It's not bad enough that some loony PJ fan sent me a death threat; if this were to pass, I might be more likely to have them appear on my doorstep. They could vandalize where I live or whatever.

Points raised in many posts. This type of bill is a goldmine for a good number of corporations that sell such 'services' and others. A goldmine for data gatherers (all this done legally already, mind you, but the bill would make it SO much easier), a goldmine for insurance companies, a goldmine for litigators.... Not to mention the 'easy access' for weirdos. Oh, and of course the 'protection' of politicians' 'good name'. Nothing altruistic about it.
We are already more and more exposed as we use our computers, iPads/tablets, smartphones, cable TVs, etc. Our lives are entwined with these technologies and I believe that a lot of us (in our type of society) would have great difficulties doing without all of this. A law enabling even more intrusion is really not necessary.
You (the Pearl Jam Board Operations) would likely be held responsible and accountable and open to legal action if someone gets a member's home address from here, goes to that address and does them harm.
Right?
Astute observation. Another angle to look at. 'Ambulance chasers' dream?

If it was required by law to provide it no, no liability would not fall to the website.
In this proposal no one would have to post their info to the public, that is optional.
Only required to keep the post up and this only if it is identified and it is requested.
This protects the victim of the post and hopefully deters slanderous postings.

I do believe forums and websites can already do this without this proposal and no private info has to be given. Since you already own ways to curb cyberbullying why the great push to implement this proposal? The law then isn't a necessity, shed the blinkers and open up the view.

Exactly. Haven't people been banned from this site for abusive language?
Again... this is an area of a greater forum that is set aside for those difficult issues that have no simple solutions. If you can't take criticism from an opposing view... then, you probably shouldn't be argueing your viewpoint in the manner you have chosen... right?
If you want happy thoughts where unicorns fart out cotton candy... there are places you can go and talk about meaningless shit like 'American Idol', instead of hot topics like abortion and gun control.

A lot of forums, etc. do have their own rules and regulations, the level of 'tolerance' reflecting the nature of the site. I'm sure things are 'rougher' and discordance may even be encouraged on a Ted Nugent type site/forum than on a happy-clappy church forum. Each individual needs to choose what is suitable for them. (Please - this is not inviting a debate on TN or happy-clappy churches).
And damn... I like your unicorn references!

I know all about blinkers in that I live in an equestrian community, our community is next door to the Palm Beach International Polo Club, an uncle who trains race horses and clients who own thoroughbred racehorses. Horses are all around me and very good clear up on the word blinker in your earlier post. Oh I'm always in some sort of ache or pain non stop activity with 4 kids now down to 4 Aleeve in my small stack.

My great push is well beyond this proposal as I have said. Also not all websites do this
why there is the level of harm being done to others.
All for the view as long as it's not someone getting beat up.
That is where I draw the line.
For me, it is the opposite ...
the blinders are on those who don't care to feel the trauma of others
and worry about their own rights. But we see this does not effect their rights
because they would not have to give their info out, only to keep a slanderous post up
does one need to do that. It's a really fair situation if you are a victim or have loved one

As I've said before I care about the victims of cyberbullying very much JUST NOT through this proposal. I asked that very question which is do you think because those who oppose this proposal don't care about cyberbullying or other internet abuse? You seem to think in some odd way that this proposal is answer to the ONE ALL BE ALL proposal that will automatically solve these issues WITHOUT the huge potential collateral damage to follow.

Apparently, if you are against this law... you are FOR bullying and AGAINST victims.

It doesn't matter that the biggest bully on the block is the authority who enforces it. Laws like this are probably already enacted in places like China and Syria. Think happy thoughts and say happy words... or i'll come over there and pound you shit full of happiness.

No I have said it is a start to aid victims, not the end all.
And no one has to post their personal info to make a comment under this proposal.
If someone makes an untrue malicious statement meant to hurt another and the
victim asks upon request to know the abuser. The abuser can remove the post
and no harm done. The victim knows no ones info.
It is a fair situation for those being slandered and bullied. And it may deter that
taking place because the abuser will know it will be taken down.
So what is the damage? A victim has the right to stop the abuse. Just like here,
the mods call out the offenders. This would be a law covering areas of the internet
where protection is not available.

who enacts this law is the victims of abuse no one else, who enforces is it is individual websites mods and administrators
it is not about happy or not happy it is about lies and pain for victims
again dismissing others abuse
I use the "ignore" feature found on many sites and forums. Works like a charm. And if they don't have that feature, I'm likely not going to use that sure for long.

Now you can make a valid comment on my earlier post on curbing cyberbullying as it has been made of great importance in this thread...

I believe in personal privacy for everyone. There are plenty of laws to deal with crummy people and their rotten kids already. (bullies)
This was personal...as if you couldn't tell. Have a great one, everyone. x
P.S. Sorry I won't have time to debate but comments and thoughts are welcome.
oh no....so sorry to hear that Kat :(
And here is yet another valid point to pile on with the others.
Keep safe
Great, I will pass it along where ever I can just NEVER through this hideous proposal.

blinker
noun
blinker pronunciation English ˈblɪŋkə(r) blinker pronunciation American ˈblɪŋkər
blinkers (North American English also blinders) [plural] pieces of leather that are placed at the side of a horse's eyes to stop it from looking sideways: (figurative) We need to have a fresh look at the plan, without blinkers (= we need to consider every aspect of it).
blinker (n.)
Right?
Hail, Hail!!!
perhaps some of the tips re: cyber bullying can be applied to "Cyber annoying" and cyber pot stirring too!
Go Kings Go!
The upon request I guess means administrators/mods would be very busy
deleting anonymous posts if they were slanderous and it was requested by the victim.
My hope is it would in general deter slanderous posts and bullying
as the post would just come down.
'Rotten kids...'
Astute observation. Another angle to look at. 'Ambulance chasers' dream?
In this proposal no one would have to post their info to the public, that is optional.
Only required to keep the post up and this only if it is identified and it is requested.
This protects the victim of the post and hopefully deters slanderous postings.

I do believe forums and websites can already do this without this proposal and no private info has to be given. Since you already own ways to curb cyberbullying why the great push to implement this proposal? The law then isn't a necessity, shed the blinkers and open up the view.

You said 'blinkers'....
Stocked up on Aleve then?
Hail, Hail!!!
Oh I'm always in some sort of ache or pain non stop activity with 4 kids now down to 4 Aleeve in my small stack.

why there is the level of harm being done to others.

Apparently, if you are against this law... you are FOR bullying and AGAINST victims.
...
It doesn't matter that the biggest bully on the block is the authority who enforces it. Laws like this are probably already enacted in places like China and Syria. Think happy thoughts and say happy words... or i'll come over there and pound you shit full of happiness.
Hail, Hail!!!
This would be a law covering areas of the internet
where protection is not available.
it is not about happy or not happy it is about lies and pain for victims
again dismissing others abuse
